Fast charge jump starter

The endless power of the Intelli-Start jump starter

PROJECTA’S INTELLI-START JUMP STARTERS ARE ALWAYS READY TO GO BECAUSE THEY CHARGE THEMSELVES WITHIN SECONDS OF STARTING A FLAT BATTERY

Portable jump starters are a fuss-free way to get a vehicle with a flat battery going again but, because they are often used in a hurry, jump starters are often put away without a thought to recharging them. A few starts later and they could be as much use as the car’s own flat battery.

Projecta’s new Intelli-Start range makes that whole charging issue a thing of the past. The IS1500 Professional Intelli-Start Jumpstarter has deep reserves of power in a lightweight unit, performing up to 150 cranking starts on a single charge. Thanks to its lithium iron phosphate (LifePO4) cell construction and smart controls, it can be recharged on the spot by the started vehicle’s alternator (if it’s still functional) just by leaving it connected for a short time.

LifePO4 batteries can accept much higher levels of charge than other lithium technologies, meaning that in just 40 seconds an Intelli-start Jumpstarter will have fully recovered the discharge from starting that vehicle.

As soon as the vehicle has started, the intelligent battery management in the Intelli-Start system recognises the charging current from the vehicle’s alternator and switches into charging mode to replace the jump starter’s discharged energy. This system, combined with the LifePO4 battery’s fast-charging capability, forms Protecta’s unique ‘Rapid Recharge Technology’.

RRT means Intelli-start Jumpstarters never have to be charged via connection to a mains socket. This immediate recharging capability means they can provide unlimited charging on the go. One starter could be used to charge an entire fleet of vehicles in a car park without needing to find a 240V wall socket — although a 5-volt USB adapter charger is supplied to provide that option.

The smarts in the RRT instantly recognise whether power is demanded from the charger or whether power is available for recharging. This ‘all-in-one’ protection circuitry alerts users to connections to the wrong terminals, preventing sparks, surges, overheating, and overcharging. This gives protection both to users and to vehicles’ sensitive electronics.

As well as handling high currents in both charging and discharging modes, the lithium iron phosphate construction provides up to 2000 charging cycles, which Projecta says is about four times more than the lithium cobalt batteries used in other lithium battery chargers. This offers much greater value and longevity in a workshop environment where durability and reliability are most important.
