Students Return to Campus to Begin the 2020-2021 School Year
We were thrilled to welcome our students back to campus for the start of the school year. The freshman class of 2024 made the traditional walk through the Cagle Gate on the Freshman First Day, August 12, and Lower School and Hilbert Center returned to school on August 13. Middle and Upper School enjoyed their first day on Monday, August 17.
Park Tudor has implemented a variety of protocols—including mask wearing, social distancing, frequent hand washing, and a daily health checklist—to help ensure that students can safely learn on campus.
PT Announces Lead Gift from Irsay Family for New Sports Center for Health and Wellness
In August, Park Tudor announced a lead gift from the Irsay family that will spearhead construction of our new sports center for health and wellness. The Irsay Family Sports Center for Health and Wellness will serve as the new home for Park Tudor athletics and physical education.
Work is well underway on the Irsay Family Sports Center for Health and Wellness, which is scheduled to open in November 2021 and will include a fieldhouse, auxiliary gym, multipurpose studio, weight and cardio fitness room and seminar classroom, as well as community spaces and places for students to gather.
Carlie Irsay-Gordon ’99, Casey Foyt ’01 and Kalen Jackson ’06, daughters of Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO, Jim Irsay, and the next generation of Colts ownership, are Park Tudor alumnae and parents of current Park Tudor students.
“We are extremely grateful to the Irsay family for their generous commitment to the Park Tudor community,” said Park Tudor’s Head of School, Gareth Vaughan. “The new building will be a space to promote health and wellness that nourishes our students’ minds, bodies and spirits. It will add to campus life for students of all ages.”

The boys and girls cross country teams made sure 2020 was a season to remember. Both teams won the Pioneer Athletic Academic Conference championship, completing a conference sweep for the first time ever. Spencer Hughes, Daniel Mukhin, Jack Button, and Sam Mulvey earned AllConference Honors for the boys. Sophia Kennedy, Gretchen Farley, Abigail Moyers, Isabella Wilburn, Mary-Emma White, and Claire Carpenter earned AllConference Honors for the girls. Sophia Kennedy was the girls’ conference individual champion.
The boys finished their season at the Sectional Meet, placing 10th. The girls placed 3rd at the Sectional Meet, securing their first-ever appearance at the Regional Meet where they went on to finish 6th. Sophomores Sophia Kennedy and Gretchen Farley advanced to the State Meet, placing 5th and 12th respectively, and earning All-State honors. This was the first time in school history that two Park Tudor runners had advanced to the State Meet.
Jade Thomas and Ethan Kim earned Academic All-State honors. Chloe English, Annie Flowers, Eleanor Hayward, Ethan Kim, Wellesley Mobasser, Dakota Sciscoe, and Jade Thomas earned Academic All-Conference honors. Both teams return the majority of their varsity rosters, and look to build on the success of this season in the fall of 2021.
Volleyball
The Park Tudor volleyball team started off the year as a young and inexperienced group. With half of the team graduated from last season, new players were inserted into the lineup to keep the top-10 ranking tradition going at PT.
The young Panther squad started off the year winning their first 11 matches. Some highlights include an opening season win at Wheeler High School and a tough comeback win against 1A sectional champion Lutheran
High School, in which they defeated the Saints 3-2 after being down 12-8 in the fifth game. During one weekend tri match, the team swept rival Speedway and Union County; this was the fourth year in a row that Park Tudor has won this weekend tri match. The Panthers also scored a major comeback victory against Scecina, winning 3-2 after being down 2 sets to 1. The Panthers chalked up another victory against 4A Bedford NorthLawrence in the opening round of their tourney, followed by two close losses against #6-ranked 2A Evansville Mater Dei and #9-ranked 4A Martinsville in to finish their early stretch of matches 11-2 and earning a #9 ranking in 2A.
After a narrow loss to 4A Pike HS, PT reeled off another six wins in a row to finish their half of the conference 3-0. This undefeated mark sent them to the conference tourney as one of two #1 seeds. Unfortunately, #2-ranked 3A Muncie Burris was too much for the Panthers in the final of the tourney, with the Panthers losing 25-22, 25-18 in a hard-fought match.
After defeating Speedway once again in the first round of the Marion County tournament, the record for PT stood at 19-4 and the Panthers were ranked #10 in 2A. With a couple of injuries sidelining two starters, the Panthers dropped their last 5 matches to finish the season 19-9.
Sara Gomperts was named All Marion County, All Conference, All District, and team MVP, and is a potential All State honoree. Ava Smith was named All Marion County, All District, and team Best Offensive Player and is a potential All State honoree.
boys soccer
The PT boys soccer team ended its season with a loss in the sectional finals to local rival, Heritage Christian School, 1-0. The team finished the season with a 9-6-1 record. The Panthers were undefeated in Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference (PAAC) matches, and were crowned Conference Champions.
Although the team graduates 12 seniors, 11 members of the varsity squad will return next year. Along with the next incoming class of studentathletes, the team expects to make an impact in 2021.

The team made it to the semifinals of the Marion County Tournament, as well as the finals of the Sectional Tournament, where they lost 4-1 to Brebeuf. The team of Michael Fryburg and Simon Rothbaum went on in the IHSAA Boys State Individual Doubles tournament; they lost to a very good Zionsville team who went on to the Final 8 of the state tournament.
The Panthers were named Academic All State with a cumulative team GPA of between 3.6 - 4.0. Michael Fryburg/Simon Rothbaum were named Honorable Mention for All State Team Doubles.

football
The Park Tudor football team opened the season going undefeated for their first four games. Their season kicked off with an impressive win over the Gophers from Clinton Prairie High School, 59-21. They followed up with a win at Trader’s Point Christian Academy, where the team continued to look impressive on both sides of the football, winning 55-14. The third game of the season was a home game - and senior night - with the Panthers hosting the Tiger Cubs from Greencastle High School. In a game to be remembered, the squad was able to overcome a 28-6 fourth quarter deficit to pull out a victory by the score of 29-28. The team followed up that impressive performance with a win over the Twisters from Oldenburg Academy to go to 4-0 for the season - the first time in 20 seasons for the Panthers to start with four straight victories. The Homecoming game was held on October 2 vs. Beech Grove, with the Panthers coming up short by a score of 40-10. The team finished the regular season with losses to Covenant Christian and North Decatur High School.
The Panthers drew a bye in the first round of sectionals, and ended their season with a loss in the second round vs. Covenant Christian, 44-12. Congratulations to the Panthers on a great year, finishing above .500 in the regular season. The future looks bright for football at PT!
Girls Golf
The girls golf team launched their season on August 6 with the Crooked Stick Invitational. A very difficult course and limited early season practices made for a tough day for the girls competing, but it was a great experience for everyone involved. Following that tourney and sandwiched between two close losses to Cathedral and Perry Meridian, the girls defeated the Brebeuf Braves with a score of 202 to 205.
The team showed great improvement over last year both as a team and individually. The girls finished first in a 3-team match against Lawrence Central and Lawrence North, and also defeated Pike in a dual match at Saddlebrook Golf Club. A tough loss to a good University High School squad followed those victories.
Sophomore Sia Patel led the team in scoring average followed closely by juniors Mary Kate Tanselle and Audrey Wang. In the Marion County Tournament at Woodwind Golf Course, the Panthers shot a very impressive 374 and took third place. Sophomore Sia Patel finished third overall in the entire field, which placed her on the Marion All-County Team.
The girls golf team competed in IHSAA sectional #15 at Maple Creek Golf Course. They played well, but missed advancing to the regional as a team by one place, finishing fourth overall. Sophomore Sia Patel and junior Audrey Wang placed in the top three of non-advancing teams, and advanced to the IHSAA regional.
