CURRICULUM At Park View School, we are committed to all our pupils experiencing an inspiring curriculum, designed to foster a love of learning. We build on the skills that pupils have acquired in primary school and ensure that we deliver a fiveyear curriculum that is focused on learning, not ‘teaching to the test’. Pupils are stretched and challenged both academically and creatively from the moment that they step through our doors. Teachers challenge all our students, setting personalised targets, monitoring progress and providing additional support when required.
Pupils are well prepared to not only pass examinations, but prepared for the rest of their lives and to progress on to a wide variety of destinations closely matched to their interests and abilities. We use Drama, Music, Dance and Sport to build students’ confidence in a way that benefits all areas of learning. Students participate in numerous, creative workshops and productions around school and in the community. Our Park View Learner skills are the foundation of all we do. We teach our students how to be independent, resilient, creative learners who have a love of lifelong learning and a respect for diversity, equality and community.
ENRICHMENT Our enrichment programme comprises a wide range of extracurricular activities and exciting opportunities in lessons. These include Saturday schools, sporting, arts and creative clubs, plus coursework sessions including a homework club and breakfast club where students can read and enjoy a complimentary breakfast. Outside curriculum time, students are encouraged to attend free instrumental lessons taught by a team of highly skilled professional musicians and to participate in a wide array of extra-curricular activities in Dance, Drama and Music. Students perform regularly both in and out of school and benefit from strong partnerships with professional theatre, dance and music organisations. Students often visit West End productions, participate in workshops with external companies and deliver workshops to local primary schools. Students are supported in preparing audition pieces and have gained highly sought after places at ‘The Brit School’ and universities where they can continue their journey in the performing arts.
Students have the opportunity to enjoy interschool competitions, educational outings, foreign visits and sports tours. Our students relish special theme days such as the school’s annual international festival, ‘Parkstock’. Park View students also know that their views and opinions count. With an elected school council and year councils, many students are given the opportunity to participate in the development of Park View. Open to all years, our student leadership programme gives students responsibilities as translators, supervisors, charity event organisers and participants in staff recruitment. Our strong house system encourages closer collaboration between students across the school and develops a sense of belonging. Every child and teacher is allocated to one of our four houses: Elm, Oak, Cedar and Maple.

SUPPORT We provide a safe learning environment with a firm anti-bullying culture and our staff work hard to make students feel happy, secure and empowered. In return, we demand very high standards of classwork, homework, behaviour, punctuality, attendance and uniform. Park View actively promotes an ethos of respect, which results in a strong sense of community. Our school has its very own ‘BSafe Team’ who are committed to supporting students who become the victims of bullying, both in dealing with issues on a daily basis as well as providing aftercare and monitoring in the following months. We provide an ‘open door’ system and no student is turned away. We operate a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy and make it clear to all Park View students that acts of bullying will not be tolerated. Over the past academic year, our Student Voice representatives have reported that students feel safer in school now than ever before. This is testament to the committed work that the team, including the student representatives have been carrying out. We have a team of students trained as student mentors who monitor behaviour around the school as well as offering support, advice and friendship to those who have been affected by bullying. Park View understands that students’ happiness is a key to achievement in all areas of learning. Our students benefit from personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education that is taught in both curriculum and tutor time. By exploring topics such as relationships, personal safety and finance, our young people develop the confidence to make positive life choices. We nurture all students with personalised support – from induction for our new Year 7s right through to careers and further education guidance for Year 11s. Our non-teaching Progress and Achievement Leaders are focused on pastoral support and some students have been trained as peer mentors. Students and their families have access to exceptional support services at school.

TRANSITION At Park View, our Year 7 students and their parents benefit from the close support of a dedicated year team who work closely with local primary schools, making visits and establishing relationships whilst the majority of our students are still in Year 6. Our transition process ensures that all students and parents feel supported in the important move from primary into secondary. Upon entry into Park View, Year 6 students will be introduced to the different student-led programmes we have available such as Time2Talk,
At first I thought the transition would be scary but the teachers and students really helped me settle in. Within a week I made lots of new friends. There are so many things to do during lunch and after school, I have even joined the police cadets! How cool is that? Andrei

INCLUSION The Inclusion team at Park View is made up of the Ethnic Minority Achievement (EMA) and the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) departments. We are a fully inclusive school where all students have equal opportunities to fulfil their potential in all aspects of their development, regardless of their type of additional need. Our team is an extremely supportive one, which is committed to three core principles: Inspire, Nurture and Develop. Inclusion supplies an inspiring environment in which students can thrive and grow - both academically and personally. We are proud to offer students the opportunity to learn and develop through the pioneering Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) curriculum. ASDAN at Park View offers students programmes and qualifications that explicitly grow skills for learning, skills for work and skills for life. Our KS4 students have the option to choose courses such as FoodWise, Land-Based Studies or the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) Programme, as an alternative to, but supporting some traditional academic subjects.

Park View sees every student as an individual learner and strives to support a range of learning approaches and contexts. The ASDAN curriculum celebrates this diversity and succeeds in making learning relevant and transferable. The ASDAN curriculum will also give students the chance to spend time in the schools very own EDEN (Emotional Development Environmental Nurturing) Project, which was set up and driven by Park View students back in 2014. The EDEN project is a green outdoor space which students and staff, alike, are immensely proud of their developing fruit trees, vegetable and herb gardens and a student made wood-burning pizza oven. We are developing pop-up outdoor classrooms and have our very own chickens to maintain. The EDEN project is continually developing, with the help of Inclusion staff and student volunteers. We believe that Park View School is the destination for success for ALL students.
