FROM THE EDITOR What a fascinating year it’s been in the world of fashion for our little neck of the woods. Things are happening that give me hope for what 2016 has to come. Next year we will see a new series of fashion events that look to put Las Vegas on the map. We will see efforts to bring large-scale manufacturing to the region. Local designers will finally be able to stay here and grow. The wave is coming folks and you’ll either ride it or be left behind. For this final issue of the year we begin and end with two designers that represent our fashion future. Kyler Baltimore is an 11 year old designer who’s hope, determination and optimism is inspiring and we can’t wait to see what this young lady is going to do next. And then there’s the amazing talented Elena Pineda. Her jewelry is so unique and beautiful it makes you think twice about wearing clothes with her pieces. And what’s the holiday season without a little, or in this case a lot, of sweets. Our Chocolate Delights spread is our gift to you. Six lovely truffles available for indulging. It’s been a wonderful year for Parlay and we’ve seen our family grow and our audience grow beyond our expectations. And now we’re about to take it to a new level as we’re about to start filming a weekly TV show called Parlay TV. It’ll be a weekly half hour fashion talk show that’ll... well you’ll find out. Have a happy and blessed holiday. Thank you for reading and make sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram. Tevye Harper Editor-In-Chief

This holiday season, Parlay Magazine had the honor of following one of Las Vegas’ brightest stars throughout her journey in the fashion industry. When 11 year old Kyler Baltimore first crossed our path, her eyes were full of hope, optimism, change, freedom, and possibility. We knew then that her dream of being a fashion designer was more than just a fantasy but a reality she wanted all children her age to experience; and that reality lies within the truth that anything is possible. Kyler has not only impressed the industry with her drive, creativity and resilience but also her hunger for the growth of her business in the industry and how she can educate others in her field. Join her this Christmas and fall in love with this little-big starlet as she spreads joy and a little dazzle with the Parlay family. What is the most important part of being a fashion designer here in Las Vegas and what goals do you want to see accomplished in 2016? I think the most important thing about being a fashion designer is the fact that you don’t have to be afraid to be yourself. I feel like every piece of clothing or accessories tells the world a little something about you. If you could wake up tomorrow and have your own personal design and business mentor, what big name in the industry would you want to work with or under? I would work with Diane Von Furstenberg. I just love her sense of style and the way she puts things together, I think her lines are extraordinary. What’s the most important message for your peers that you believe will help them reach their goals in life?
often tell me that I’m too young to do what I’m doing and that I should just be a kid and play all day. I’ve always wondered what people meant by “just be a kid”. I think people just don’t understand that kids are just mini adults. What are some hidden talents that you are proud of? One of the talents that I have that I am proud of is that I’m flexible. I like being flexible because not a lot of people are flexible and I like feeling different from everyone else. We at Parlay Magazine heard that you are a part of the very talented line up for the Vegas Cut and Sew event happening in February 2016. You will be showcasing and on the same platform with talent such as Ms. Sue Wong, Joseph Poli, Pamela Humphrey, and Alex Vinash. How does it feel to have reached this point in your career and what golden nuggets are you taking with you to handle and be successful during this event? I feel so happy that I get the opportunity to work with these amazing fashion artists. They rival the industry from NY fashion week to TV celebrities and I am so proud and humbled to be included. All I need to do to be successful during this event is exude confidence and just have fun. Where do you see yourself and your career in five years and will Las Vegas be at the top of your list when you open your first boutique? I definitely see myself traveling to different places like New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Milan, to participate in the fashion weeks and so much more. I also see collaborating with a lot of designers and meeting and styling a lot of celebrities.
I would tell my peers that it doesn’t matter how big or small you are you can do anything. People

I’ll be completely honest; I am not an accessories girl. I prefer to keep it classic and simple, a pearl earring ensemble one night or perhaps a watch the next. If the occasion calls for it, I have been known to wear a mix of metals. But they are not an everyday style choice I adhere to. I can, however, admire a favorable combination of accessories. Being a ‘90s kid, I often tap into that decade for inspiration. This month, I came across a fashionista who engages in the ‘90s style, with hint of a modern twist. Every Tuesday I get the pleasure of running into Avery Simone, Fashion Retail Management major at The Art Institute of Las Vegas. She never forgets her platform shoes, nor her eye jewels.
few tips to keep in mind the next time you are accessorizing your back to school outfit, or a LBD for date night. If you’re going to overload on accessories, do it, but tame your outfit. Wear a solid colored article or basic jeans and a white tee shirt, so that your pieces truly stand out. Listen to your intuition. If your accessories feel overdone, they probably are. But if you feel confident in that choice, then go for it. Remember, confidence is key!
On this particular day she wore a colorful choker, a nice touch to her overall black and white look. What works best in this outfit is that the accessories are not overdone and her knack for a close attention to detail. Her skirt was strategically placed to break in between her white top and Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Her nails and lip color were a similar shade of magenta, while her Marc by Marc Jacobs watch and the zippers from her top were a gold match.
If you’re just beginning to explore accessories and want to try out the overload look, choose one section to focus on. For example if you layer different length necklaces, do not overdo the arm candy or vice versa. For guys, you can never go wrong with a nice watch. Keep in mind, you should wear a statement piece when you are aiming to make a statement, or for the appropriate occasion. If you’re attending a holiday party and want to show off the beautiful necklace your S.O. gave you, then that would be a great opportunity to make that call. If you’re going to do community service outside in the field, then you most likely will want to keep that pretty shiny piece locked away. I’d love to drip in multiple layers of diamonds one day, just not while I’m lending a helping hand.
Choosing accessories can be tough, as an old saying encourages us to take a piece of jewelry off before leaving the house. But I am sure Iris Apfel would disagree. Honestly, who doesn’t just love arm candy? Regardless, here are a
It’s been brought to my attention that there can be a fine line between looking fierce and looking messy when accessorizing. So the next time you want to make sure you stay on the fierce side, ask yourself a few questions while deciding.

Where are you headed? Who will be there? What’s the purpose of the outing? Go from there and I’m confident you will make the right decision. But remember, if you ever need advice, you can always contact your favorite style guru!
PULL OFF THE LOOK: Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new, but know where your confidence lies. To imitate this awesome soft ‘90s grunge look, follow the silhouette. Pair a short A-line skirt with a classy top and platform shoes. This look can even be pulled off with some edgy flat boots. For colder fall days try pairing this with a fur vest and perhaps thighhigh stockings.
excited to build which in turn gave me freedom to rediscover who I truly am. I know now that whatever we want in life is totally possible and life responds to our deepest desires, even the ones that are unspoken but show up in our actions as we push towards the top. Reflection is one of the greatest gifts within our power and we should never become too consumed with life not to stop

t n a W t s u J s Girl n u F e v a H To WRITTEN by Hiwote Berhanu photography by Max Succar Imagine being in your mother’s closet when you were a little girl, and never wanting to leave. Experiencing all the one of a kind goodness there is to offer. The fabulous coats, amazing dresses, and shoes that would make even Carrie Bradshaw shameful. That is what it feels like when I visit Hottie. Hottie is only located in the Las Vegas area and has been a resident of Las Vegas for 20 years. Some of us only drive by it, wondering if they have that one special party dress, the shoes, or even the jewels to go with it. You heard it here, they do have that perfect party dress or outfit for that amazing getaway trip! Hottie gives us all the show stopping clothes we see on the runways and fashion magazines. To say that it is a “girl’s paradise” may not be far from the truth. At Hottie, a girl has the freedom to be whatever she wants to be. We went to the Grand Canyon Target Center location. On the day of our photo shoot, as we are walking in the store, already knew the excitement of what we were about to see was at our finger tips. The white marble floor reflected

what we were about to devour. From the perfect outfit for that new year party that couldn’t come soon enough to the endless jewels to pick from to create that impeccable statement to that pictureperfect shade of beige color jumpsuit. Hottie gives you a one stop shop for all your needs for this holiday season, and beyond. As you take in one “must-have” tops and bottoms at a time, there are pink and white crystal chandeliers. Each one decorated beautifully around the store to offer that girl the best experience possible. The girly-like aesthetic was present in every corner of the store. Being a local fashion retail store is difficult in Las Vegas. Local businesses are over shadowed by the high end and luxury stores on the strip and malls. Being in business for twenty years, Hottie has shown us first hand that it can be done. Hottie has five locations in the Las Vegas valley, with two more to be opened within the coming years. It is apparent that Hottie is one of the longest successful clothing chain stores in the Las Vegas valley. All the associates were greatly helpful to us
just minutes before and during the shoot. With new arrivals coming in every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays it’s safe to say someone will always find something they were looking for. Hottie pride themselves in providing a personalized customer service. To give a great service to someone weather in the fashion industry or in another is a powerful quality. Thanks, Hottie for all that you do!
