s curator of the ‘Bath Boulevard’ as 100% Design in London last month, Designer has great pleasure in presenting an exclusive showcase of the featured bathtubs, with all the details you need about the bathroom stars that could provide the ultimate focal point for your next project. Our special feature on the 11 hottest baths on the market begins on page 30. There’s a showroom focus this month too, with a ‘Showing Off’ special on the key venues to visit on ‘kitchen alley’ as London’s Wigmore Street is commonly known. Turn to page 18 for all the details. Also this month, we look at some of the latest new kitchen surface options to hit the market, visit the ultimate in ‘home automation’ apartments, and hear from some of the industry’s leading software producers about how CAD is likely to change the shape of design in the future.

The striking Etna bath boasts 12 coloured light settings to go with its unusual shape, and yet the aesthetics are just one part of a much bigger story. Nano silver technology coats the bath’s surface in a protective shield of nano particles that creates an anti-bacterial layer which is also self-cleaning. But what’s more, the bath is connected to the central heating system of a house to create a bath that not only retains its water temperature but acts as a bathroom radiator too. Once connected to the central heating, the Etna
will radiate heat through its integral system of thread pipes, allowing the user to indulge in a long, hot soak without the need for topping the water up. The heat radiated from the bath is enough to heat the bathroom, doing away with the traditional need for under floor heating or a bathroom radiator.

Art Deco with a Modern Twist, is Annette Taylor Anderson’s latest wallpaper creation.
Capturing the mood of the 1920’s and 1930’s but brought stylishly up to date, these wallpapers are intended to make a statement in a range of settings including luxury homes, clubs or bars.
Fired Earth and Transport for London have teamed up to produce a new range of domestic tiles marking the 150th anniversary of the London Underground.
The manufacturer was invited to scour the London Underground archives to select a range of designs to update for modern day applications. In some cases, the original moulds were used as the starting point for the designs, which include Edwardian style tiles, the ‘Kennington’ range using a design unique to Kennington tube station, as well as a range of classic signage which includes the iconic Way Out and Mind the Gap signs. Bespoke signage can also be made on request. Fired Earth | www.firedearth.com

Realistic CAD drawings are one thing, but imagine being able to see a new kitchen or bathroom design in virtual reality. Optical electronics manufacturer Carl Zeiss has partnered with German company ImmerSight to build a system that allows interior design customers to take a walk around their new bathroom or kitchen – or whole house – before it's even built. The headpiece surrounds the head of the observer and operates in a similar way to motion-capture film production. A camera watches the headpiece and recognises the white balls attached to the exterior, which give its exact position and direction of view. The user can look around in the virtual environment with complete freedom of movement.

During the virtual tour, surfaces, colour, lighting and other elements can be changed at the touch of a button, giving customers a real sense of how things will look and a unique way to compare different options. The first applications of the system are already in use in Germany, offering customers a way to plan their bathroom designs in a virtual showroom. Carl Zeiss | www.cinemizer.zeiss.com

Q - How ‘brand aware’ are your customers? i
the big estion Desi ne
i er
n ging
ire tor
er
reis
In my view, consumers generally have a very low day to day awareness of brands within the kitchen and bathroom industry. This is not surprising, as for most people they will only ever purchase a new kitchen or bathroom once or twice in their lifetime. It is only during these interest ‘windows’ that they will be researching products for their home and may therefore become brand aware. Based on my own experience, most end users are unable to name the brand of appliances or sanitaryware currently fitted in their home, even though they are looking and them and using them each and every day! The importance of this limited consumer brand awareness will depend upon the type of retail environment, in a large DIY store or on an Internet website, where there is little or no interaction with a salesperson, consumers may well make purchase decisions based upon their knowledge and perception of the brands offered. However, in an independent specialist, where there will inevitably be a high level of interaction, the consumer’s awareness of brands will be less important than a personal product recommendation made by the retailer.
in
n 158.indd 16
r h o inson ho roo n ger on nteriors ondon I find people are more aware of appliance
brands, maybe as Gaggenau and Miele are just down the road! People are conscious more of the brand when it's on show and happier to have cheaper and possibly lower quality items behind doors, so it’s not always just about better function and quality. When it comes to furniture, decisions seem to be much more about appearance and quality and when this is supported by a known, long standing brand it’s a bonus.
Cro n ging ire tor i es I agree with Bill that the awareness only comes mainly during the window of interest. However, how much the consumer becomes aware through visiting the showroom depends on how good the manufacturer is at presenting their brand and how much the retailer wishes to promote their own. At Ripples, we promote our own brand first and foremost, and are very keen to point out to the customer that they are only buying quality products made by leading manufacturers in the industry. In fact, the biggest consideration is whether that manufacturer has as much respect for their own brand as we do by allowing other retailers and Internet traders to discount or not. If they do, we wouldn’t promote that brand at all in any of our franchise showrooms.

With an increasing diversity of material, texture and colour choices, the worksurface has become an increasingly versatile element of any kitchen scheme
It is sometimes strange to think how much emphasis is placed on the kitchen furniture – doors in particular – when arguably the element of the kitchen that users have the most direct contact with is the worksurface. All too often in the past, consumers at all ends of the market would be forced to choose between aesthetics and practicality. However, the industry has moved on rather quickly over the last few years, with a rapidly expanding range of options that enable designers to really bring the worktop to the fore. Graeme Smith, Senior Designer at PWS, says: “Solid designer

surface is most certainly the material of the moment as it offers designers so much versatility to create striking and individual schemes. It has the flexibility to be moulded into different shapes combined with a vast colour choice plus it looks fabulous as a slim or chunky thickness, or indeed, a mix of the two. “The other material that is gaining in popularity is quartz and this is true for both classic and contemporary schemes. With the inherent properties of granite the choice of colours is immense. The latest developments in quartz are finishes that
closely replicate natural marble. This is a really exciting trend as although there is a strong demand for marble, it is rarely specified in a kitchen environment as it is not heat, scratch or stain resistant and is also very porous. Marbleeffect quartz finishes are therefore likely to become increasingly popular as they have the visual appeal of natural marble yet with all the inherent practical benefits of a manmade composite material.” These practical benefits were also a boast of the Mistral range of surfaces from Karonia. Launched at KBB 2010, Mistral combines the
2
look of natural quartz and stone with the practicality and creative potential of an acrylic-based material. The worktops are non-porous so perfect for kitchen and bathroom environments and, because there is no substrate, there are no internal joints to compromise structural integrity or hinder imaginative design. Andrew Pickup, Director at Karonia, says: “The versatility of solid surfacing is such that any curve or shape can be created, allowing the consumer to add unique character to their kitchen. No matter what happens next in terms of kitchen design, solid surfacing will be able to

respond accordingly.” He adds that these qualities have given this product range some resilience during difficult times: “In a market that is slightly down, the higher end is continuing to hold its own. It would appear that in tough market conditions, worktop materials that offer real versatility in terms of creative potential and performance combined with ease of installation are becoming increasingly popular.” New Horizons Stuart White, Managing Director at Bushboard, adds: “Today’s consumer is well tuned into the designer worksurface materials of
solid surface and quartz and the installer-ready options open up access to them to a far wider audience than ever before now, giving them that sought-after combination of design, quality and value.
his ge e t Si es one n o eus osen ino ight o i n s used in ine i en
These are the materials that chime with the zeitgeist of our economic reality.” White adds that achieving the twin goal of high quality finishes from an easy to install material brings fresh impetus to the industry: “The new innovations in installer-ready quartz are a game-changer for the worktop market because they cut out the templatefabricate-fit route of the more recognised brands. They speed up a kitchen installation by at least a week and dramatically reduce costs which means that a specifier can upscale a project or contract with affordably great design.
o

“The kitchen retailer’s own installers fit the quartz product directly on site which gives better project control and cost savings. All specifiers are looking for how to achieve the look for less and installerready quartz gives them exactly that. “The gap between the established artisan brands and this new generation of materials has now closed as a result of innovation in product development and installation techniques, so there is no compromise on quality, performance or design.” i net or

Incredible colours such as Caesarstone’s new Frosty Carrina, look, for all the world, as though they are marble – albeit a ‘marble’ that is entirely non-porous and that has the ability to withstand scratches and stains.”
Aesthetic options are also broadening. Chris Pepper, Marketing and Business Development Manager at Caesarstone, says: “Within the Quartz market, there are some very striking neutrals emerging. Blacks and variations on whites will always have their place and look unquestionably timeless. However, alongside them, we’re seeing some stylish, subtle colour palettes of creams, greys and browns that work exceptionally well with both natural woods and chalkier paints. designer

es 158.indd 26
Mixing materials in the kitchen has become established as a fundamental design approach, and this has, to some extent, driven the direction of surfacing colour choices. Nicola Toledo, Commercial Sales Manager at Cosentino, explains: “Neutral shades are currently the most popular colour choice for worktops, with Silestone Blanco Zeus leading the way for Cosentino. These neutral tones are being mixed with woods to add warmth to a kitchen design.
“Grey is increasing in popularity, and customers are also starting to experiment more with marble-effect worktops especially in the more neutral colour palettes, to bring individuality to their kitchen. The Silestone by Cosentino Nebula range lends itself to this look, with colours Lyra and Lagoon proving most popular this year. Six new colours have recently been added to the range as Cosentino expect this trend to grow over the coming years.” Karonia’s Pickup says that the top selling colours in the Mistral range have remained constant. “Black and dark effects, white and neutral shades are proving ever popular with the consumer who possibly prefers to ‘play safe’ with worktop choice even when going for doors in more daring colours. “Having said that, there is always the opportunity to develop and enhance the ‘standard’ colours. For
example, our range contains interesting variations in terms of texture and pattern. In particular, the introduction of the multilayered chip gives the surface the depth and visual interest normally associated with natural stone effects. Toffee Cream, which offers this combination of plain base colour with a coloured chip, is currently performing exceptionally well – probably because it offers a more interesting effect and one that complements many different cabinet finishes.” New Generation Martin Saxby of LG Hausys, manufacturers of HI-MACS, says that the new generation of sold surface materials is becoming more popular with designers and consumers, for a number of reasons: “Designers have realised the important flexibility that this acrylic stone offers, in terms of its ability to be visually seamlessly joined and thermo-formed to virtually any three dimensional i

shape. It is also possible to include integrated features like draining grooves, splashbacks and sinks. HI-MACS in particular is available in many options where colours effects and textures offer the designer the ability to create genuinely original styles, or the Lucents range which offers a translucent finish ideal for back lighting. “Apart from the amazing visual and tactile appeal, consumers are fast becoming aware of the easy maintenance advantages especially with regard to worktops and integrated splash back features. There is also the added hygiene advantage offered by a surface that is non-porous and impervious to moisture while also being chemical resistant.” Adding even more options to the designer’s toolbox is the emergence of new materials to the surfacing scene. Jaspers, Marketing Co-ordinator at Jetstone, explains that the company has been working more closely with ceramic as a material for worktops. He explains: “These new worktop surfaces, are combining extremely high resistance in heat, scratches and stains, with a very natural and contemporary look. They even proved you can put a full-on professional blowtorch on it, without damage.” He adds that ceramic is not just another surface – large players in the quartz surfaces market are looking into the production of ceramic slabs. “Last year we invested in an entirely new (second) factory for the production of worktops. That new factory has a brand new waterjet machine, making it possible to cut ceramic slabs in a very accurate way. “The result of that is already starting to show. Almost 10%
of our UK turnover is now in ceramic worktops, with big companies like Alno proving that the stylish look and practical characteristics of the material can give added value to a kitchen.”
Alliance to embed wireless charging capability into worksurfaces, plus the launch of the new DeepColour technology to enhance the performance and fabrication of dark colours.”
Looking Ahead So what does the future hold for surfacing in the future kitchen? Well, technology will certainly play its part says Paul McDowell, Managing Director of DuPont Corian specialist MCD Marketing: “The ‘art’ of design is in an exciting phase of meeting the ‘science’ of new technology and this synthesis is coming together beautifully in the world of surfaces.
He believes that it is the imminent bridging of the gap between both the design and science world that makes the solid surface industry such an exciting place to work. “Due to the versatility of Corian, we are increasingly seeing the sleek integration of equipment and appliances into surfaces, making them a cohesive part of kitchen design, from pop up extractors and power sockets to IT and AV equipment.”
“DuPont recently launched the ‘Endless Evolution’ initiative to reflect the pioneering nature of Corian, and the first exciting developments include working with the Power Matters
Perhaps kitchen designs of the future will see an even greater convergence of all the aspects of the room than ever before – and that kind of joined-up thinking promises to open up all manner of design possibilities. i

Cutting-edge gadgets meet green thinking in this ‘experiential’ showroom that seeks to hide the tech and show-off the lifestyle… If seeing is believing, then understanding how sophisticated home automation has become probably demands a hands-on in-situ experience that brochures and catalogues just cannot deliver. For this reason, home automation specialist Cornflake has opened an experiential retail showroom, just off London’s Tottenham Court Road, which has been designed to show what can be achieved with technology in the home. The two-storey apartment is dressed as a high-end domestic property and showcases the most covetable home automation technology on the market. It is aimed at top-end architects, interior designers and consumers, and available to view by

appointment only. Visitors are invited to ‘live-in’ and experience the exclusive interior-designed setting created by award-winning interior designer, April Russell.
The ‘Smart App-artment’ is the brainchild of Robin Shephard, CEO of Cornflake, and has a number of separate areas dedicated to the most advanced audio and visual solutions, together with entire roomsets that incorporate a separate bar and games room that easily converts into a party room, plus an in-house cinema room which enables the user to stream the latest movies, Sky or terrestrial TV. The open plan living area incorporates a stunning kitchen with appliances from the De Dietrich Premium Collection.
The important aspects that combine every piece of hidden wired technology are ease of use, and touch controllability. This includes using an iPad or Android system to control all aspects of home automation from heating, lighting, music, films, TV, telephony and web access, as well as TFT touchscreens for controlling the most sophisticated cooking appliances in the striking bespoke walnut kitchen designed by Ecoism Manufacturing.
The apartment has been designed as sustainably as possible in order to demonstrate the compatibility between high-end technology and green living. In this respect, the kitchen itself is a particular highlight.
It has been made entirely from sustainable materials, including the worktop which is made from Richlite recycled paper. The kitchen furniture is made from rift-sawn rippled effect walnut with stepped units, with contrast doors around the ovens featuring a sunken walnut trim. All cupboards are streamlined so that the pattern from one whole log is bookmatched around the room, whilst the doors are all inline and bevelled across the top edge so that handles are not required. The kitchen cost around £25k including appliances. i

“It is about making the most of exploiting new and different materials. That’s what we want to highlight more and more.”
Bill Bradley, Managing Director of Ecoism, is a master craftsman who pays utmost attention to detail and works only with sustainable materials. He works mainly in £10m+ homes and is just finishing the joinery package in a £40m house overlooking Lords. He began his eco mission over 30 years ago when a visit to the Rain Forest brought him to tears at the sight of the man-made devastation. But he is quick to point out that the green aspect to all of this is just one of a number of components that make for good design: “Form, function and style – they’re the basics and they haven’t gone away.” designer
Desi ne s
158.indd 32
Aside from the kitchen, the apartment features a host of other high-end sustainable features, including recycled porcelain floor tiles from Porcelanosa made from waste dust, cork leather wallpaper from Jelinek, and water-saving sanitaryware including sensor taps and WCs by Ideal Standard. LED lighting throughout the space (including the Magic range by Hettich) is set at 95% – saving 5% running costs but with no discernible difference to the eye.

It all makes for a fascinating glimpse at how ultra-high end – including all of the hightech gadgets that come with that – can dovetail with a more sustainable outlook. Bradley adds: “Eventually, all homes will be like this. Technology takes a while to become mainstream and affordable. The seamless use of technology is developing at a rapid pace and it will continue to evolve.” i

ision o the t re Stretching materials and physics to the limit, this futuristic kitchen makes a bold design statement
Apparently defying the laws of gravity, this new kitchen island design by Paxmann Design of Bonn, Germany, offers a striking glimpse of the potential future home. Owner Cornelius Paxmann has earned a reputation as a designer who knows no limits in his designs – other than those set by physics
and practicalities. He demands much of the material that he uses for his kitchen furniture, and the choice of mineralbased solid surface material HI-MACS reflects its versatility. It allowed him to combine form and proportion with technical and electronic devices. His skills are showcased by
the 360cm seamless run of kitchen units that he made for one of his customers. The design appears to have pushed at the limits of physics and confounded the laws of gravity with the carcass of the long unit seemingly hovering on the side of an angle. The structure itself was fabricated by Rosskopf + Partner
6
who Paxmann praised, explaining that “the constellation of material and producer, allowed us to include many unrestricted shapes in our design. The flush-fitting hob modules also seem to defy physics, as they conceal extraction units integrated in the worksurface which reliably remove the cooking odours. Sinks
and fittings are also designed by Paxmann, whilst the floating worksurface is made of special black glass. The slim base of the furniture provides unexpectedly generous space for kitchen utensils. The drawers are handleless and close fully automatically at the lightest touch with electric drives. i

As CAD software packages continue to evolve, the challenge for designers is in keeping abreast on the developments that could help their projects fulfil their potential
For a daily working tool that has become so embedded in the kitchen and bathroom sector, it is easy to forget that CAD software has only been extensively used in the industry for the last 15 years or so. Of course, the software itself has been around much longer than this, but higher processing speeds and the larger memory of modern computers has made CAD a viable alternative to hand drawing. “CAD has always been important to allow customers to understand and visualise the proposals of the designer,” says Patrick Green, Technical Manager, M’n’G Designs. “This understanding helps them explain their expectations and requirements more completely using the original proposal as a launch point. A flexible and fast CAD system can then allow the designer to refine their proposal closer to the hopes and expectations of the customer repeating the process as often as required to get the customer confident enough to agree to the design. “CAD can also help explain where the expectations are unreasonable or impossible in a way that avoids the designers taking the blame.” designer

confidence and anticipation, as virtually nothing is left to their imagination. As such, a sense of ownership is established early on in the buying process, resulting in a high design to order sales conversion.
Mike Vinten, Sales & Marketing Director at Virtual Worlds from Logicom, believes that CAD has assumed a fundamental part of the K&B sales process: “The latest detailed and photorealistic 2D and 3D interactive visuals inspire customer
He adds that CAD has become an interactive design tool in which the designer is able to rapidly switch styles, finishes and layout in response to the customers’ input whilst they are watching. This, he says, has turned the design process into a pleasurable experience for the customer, commensurate with their investment. “CAD has made the trend for bespoke kitchen or bathroom designs more available and affordable,
thanks to the availability of a vast choice of manufacturers’ catalogues and automated functions, such as parametric scaling, which has made bespoke sizes possible.” Full Benefits M’n’G Designs’ Green says: “The facility to use CAD as a discussion tool is sometimes not used to its full advantage. Customers’ expectations, the constraints of the room and budget limitations do not always combine well. The personal nature of the rooms means the customers’ opinion is highly important but often subjective so ensuring they are truly involved in the design process can help ensure these constraints and emotions are as well balanced as possible.”

53 the same,” asserts Theresa Turner, Director at ArtiCAD. “Some designers really enjoy producing stunning visualisations, often featuring highly complex designs that push the boundaries of their CAD software and satisfy the demands of even the most discerning clients. Others may require a simple presentation, which they can produce very quickly and which is exactly what a particular type of clientele is looking for.”

He points out that the designer is a vital part of this but their best tool is CAD and its repeated use rather than producing a single ‘master plan or picture’. He adds that many customers will want to get more involved with the design for their room with the designer acting as a consultant that provides the product and technical knowhow to ensure the room will look and work well in reality. The designer will also be expected to contribute design ideas and suggestions sometimes taking the lead in this area, and other times guiding the customer. Green says: “CAD systems will continue to evolve to further allow this fluid mix
of contributions where there boundaries of the designers’ work are not clearly defined. Of course the CAD system also has to help ensure the design stays within the constraints of practicality and budget and it can then provide the required details to actually produce the design in reality.” Andy Peters, Sales Director at Microcad Software, agrees that in terms of putting design ideas across to a potential client and adding real value to your products and services, there is nothing more effective than highly detailed plans, elevations and high quality 3D perspectives. “A nicely prepared quotation presented with detailed specifications together with
the drawings can really enhance your professionalism and help to secure higher value projects sales. “Our included training and support for new users is there to help our users utilise the many features of the software and help them improve their presentation. As this service is ongoing it helps us to build solid relationships with our users and use their feedback in future development of our software.” One thing that is clear however, is that when we talk in such sweeping, generic terms about CAD, the reality is that there is no one-size-fitsall solution. “All designers don’t behave the same – and all CAD software is not
Serving more than 7,500 different designers in the UK alone means that the ArtiCAD-Pro software has to satisfy both ends of the ‘designer spectrum’ and all those in-between. “We’ve seen a sustained increase in the take-up of our advanced level training courses in the last three years,” she adds. “This is a strong indicator that more designers see the value in exploiting the full potential of the software, which in turn enables them to confidently produce more sophisticated designs for a broader range of customer.” Logicom’s Vinten believes that as far as the standard CAD packages are concerned, there seems to be a good understanding of the functions, but he emphasises the importance of keeping i net or

up-to-date with the changes in this rapidly evolving market. “CAD is developing all the time, particularly on the 3D interactive side. A skilled designer will automatically switch into 3D interactive mode and encourage the customer to walk around their room, whilst others make the customer struggle with a 2D plan. We know from Virtual Worlds users that those who use all the 3D interactive functionality engage the customer in the design process and report higher sales value and design to order sales conversion.
She suggests that CAD software vendors need to listen to their customers’ needs and develop their software and services accordingly. ArtiCAD’s own development pipeline includes enhancements to its desktop design software, online planning and style selection products and apps.
“New CAD functions are coming on-stream regularly and as a designer it is important to stay abreast of the latest CAD developments, especially as many of them speed up the design process, expand customer choice and allow the designer to significantly up-sell.”
M’n’G Designs’ Green says: “The challenge for CAD systems is to provide ever greater reality and detail whilst at the same time keeping the time and skill requirements to actually use the CAD as low as possible. The skill required of the designer should not been in manipulating the CAD system but in using it with the customer to produce their ideal design.”
Future Outlook So what does the future hold for CAD software – and what new features and ideas can users expect to find themselves getting to grips with in due course? ArtiCAD’s Turner says: “The CAD software development landscape moves at a rapid pace. It is influenced both by
Developers are always striving to enhance their offerings in much the same way as kitchen and bathroom designers are always looking for more ways to deliver a higher level of service to customers. need software to manage projects, so not only high quality 3D renders but usable pricing and manufacturing information that can link process together from within one software application. “We already have an iPad design app and CAD design software to work within a clients’ website, and this is likely to develop even further in the coming years.” Giving consumers greater insight into how their new kitchen or bathroom might look is driving a multitude of CAD innovations. Tony Hayles, Director at NexusCAD, points to a new user-friendly technique which offers an altogether different perspective. It is a 360 Panoramic viewer that gives customers the opportunity to download the 3D environment of a design onto their iPhone, iPad or Android phone. “The customer can then hold the device up in front of them and turn 360 degrees and watch as

the 3D scene changes on the device in real time. “This is the latest innovation in visualisation, creating a paperless presentation that the customer can view from anywhere.” Ultimately, does a fully integrated future await – one in which all aspects of the design and sales process converge? Vinten of Logicom thinks so: “As computer technology continues to deliver increasing speed and higher quality visuals, I anticipate the world of real-time, 3D interactive technology will become the norm and even more life-like. Customers will be able to walk around their proposed new kitchen or bathroom via large format screens or even life-size projection, and then at home via a video link suitable for alternative platforms. “I envisage the seamless integration of the design process with pricing and automatic component ordering integral to the main CAD software.”i

Achieving that minimal look in the kitchen is as much about the choice of appliances as it is the furniture, says Richard Walker, Sales and Marketing Director at De Dietrich Kitchen Appliances
56 Important to any ultracontemporary kitchen design is its sleek lines: handleless furniture, touch and drive drawers, inset sinks and uncluttered worksurfaces are all de rigeur. There should never be one particular element that stands out, as the kitchen itself should ‘stand out’. Over the years, appliance manufacturers have reacted to these inconspicuous kitchen concepts and have developed their cooking products to be technology-led, highly attractive yet exceptionally minimalist in their design. The advent of touch controls in induction hobs certainly made this type of surface cooking ‘a must’ for kitchen designers that no longer desired the conspicuous looks of gas supports. By additionally installing a range of touch control designer
S Desi ne 15 .indd 56
ovens within tall housing always results in a perfectly clean line in terms of the overall design, while their benefits are that they often achieve more in terms of computerised functionality, often with intelligence and pre-programmed recipes included. Most of all, touch control appliances are much easier to clean – a major benefit to the end user. The introduction of touch control hoods, or downdraft extractors have added to the seamless styling, and touch control dishwashers allow for a fully touch-led kitchen. Certain manufacturers have gone one step further, and have introduced TFT touchscreens to their appliances, and this trend is set to continue. Colour touchscreens allow the user
to control their cooking products in a similar fashion to the way they control their smartphones or tablets, by scrolling through a wide menu of functions to easily choose their desired options. i

Modern Classic is a new sensation which Mereway are driving to market in the form of a new contemporary slab door in-frame range that offers a real bespoke look. In-frame kitchen trends are soaring with consumers searching for something with real individuality, and, driven by British consumer taste, this new look presents a fresh, exciting style; a flat slab door with subtle horizontal grain, which sits within a delicate beaded frame and the absence of cross rails creates something new. ere

JIS EUROPE of Haywards Heath has a new heated towel rail named the STEYNING. The towel rail is manufactured in an elegant round section shape with sixteen horizontal rails giving an appearance of refined luxury with ample choice for towel hanging. The STEYNING is 1000mm high and 520mm wide. It can be used in central heating, electric or dual fuel formats, which allows the rail to be heated when the central heating is turned off. It is manufactured in 100% stainless steel pressure tested to 12 Bar and is available in a polished finish with brushed satin finish available to order. It is also covered by a 25 year guarantee.
RAK’s rimless format eliminates the need for a hidden rim or channel. On flushing, water is fired from three separate jets – which ensures that the whole surface of the pan is cleaned, both vertically and horizontally. As germs cannot collect under a rim, the completely visible surface is easy to clean – and the need to direct cleaning products under hidden channels is completely eliminated. The ‘new edition’ model features a quick-release soft seat, so areas under hinges can be easily cleaned. Other new features include a taller 45cm comfort height pan, so the WC is comfortable and accessible for all family members and wheelchair users. Cer

The painted kitchen is a perfect choice for both period and modern houses; it can be bespoke, matching architectural features providing a fresh stylish look. Here the Greenwich door from the Brooklands range painted in Pavilion Grey has been used to create a serene and elegant feel with a soft finish which is echoed in the classic marble worktop and chrome accessories. The colour palette is almost limitless with a choice of 25 standard colours; there is a swatch match and RAL service for customers looking for individual style. There are two in-frame options available and two hinge solutions with butt hinges available in brass, satin chrome and polished chrome. nd
