James Clerk Maxwell (13 June 1831-- 5 November 1879) James Clerk Maxwell was better known for his wokr in Physics and Mathematics. He picked up his colour theory where Issac Newtons left off, His paper “Experiments on colour, as perceived by the eye with remarks on colour blindness.
G
He produce the Equialateral Triangle Chart based on his findingd leading to the electromagentic theory of light.
C
Maxwell produce the first photograph using three colour tint process on blan and white. He showed that RGB was abetter set of primary colours the RYB and found CMYK to be a better process for printing.
Y
He also clearly distinguished the difference between tinti/shade/hue. It all depends on what discipline you are working in as to what ones you choose as you r primary colours. RGB- Digital platform RYB- Painting CMYK- Print

TINTS AND SHADES Tints and Shades add that extra dimension to a work. The best exapmle is truly nature and the wonders it has to share.
GREEN Middle English- Grene German- Grun, meaning same word used for grass ad grow. Chinese/ Japanese/ Vietnamese green and blue are the same work. Wave Length- 495-570mm Frequency- 526-606THz Neolithic people in Northern Europe made green dye for clothing made froom birch tree leaves, but tended to be pooor quality coming brownish green. Ancient Eygptainsdyed the cloth in saffron then soaked it in wood plant roots. Ancient Eygptains belived green to be the symbol for birth and regeneration. Finely ground Malachite was used for cave and tomb paintings. Blue Azarite and yellow Ochre were also used. The Chicago river is dyed green every year for St Patrick’s Day.
NEUTRALS Neutrals make me think of bathrooms and really nice communal living spaces, somewhere to study with no distractions. This photo below i have loved for a long time, which shocked me when I started sampling colours to try to create a similuar colour pallette to find that what made it work was the neutral combinatiowith a pop of colour in the fruit.
Wool and bone are a beautiful representation of neutrals inplay in the envirnoment, obvisouly some wools are dyed to create a more dramatic effect. The bones have a beautiful range of warm and cool neutrals, while the wool is mainly cooler neutrals.
DISCORDS This image to the right directly answers the criteria for being a discord. but when started extracting the colours I found it difficult to pair of the discords. I feel that as a whole is more of a discordantas an image then when seperated. although some of the pairs do tick the box.
This Brown and Teal combination I’m not sure if it is traditionally a discord but I fnd this combination when overlayed is quite discomforting for my eyes. This image I think isn’t necessarily a discordant image but if the cream background is taken away i think the image personally become discordant
O R A N G E & I was orginally surprised when I found out that orange and purple together could become a discord and that found that my favourite examples of the combination wasn’t always a discord. I orginally thought i like this combination due to the energy and vivid properties. the examples that work the best together use a combination of overlaying andshades and tints of te two.
PURPLE
FRUIT What comes to mind: summer, bright, fresh, happiness and adventure. I pulled some discord pairs from the fruit, theses are colours I wouldn’t usually use and in the future I would like to play around with them.

FLUORESCENT Fluorescents has in past to me been associated with an artifical life, strip clubs, partying and of course the Las Vegas strip. Between in the laset few years neon has amde a come back in fashion , VIVID festival in Sydney, the Neon Run and makeup. I personally dislike use of fluorescents is when paired with black, it tends to make it to harsh of a contrast.

This clever way of adding in another colour by using the overlay. these arent colour i would normally pair together but in this context the three work well and you can understand why they have been put together.
