Inspired by the noble cause of education and philanthropic zeal, a group of twenty-two like minded industrialists in Kolkata established in 1990 the Kalyan Bharti Trust (KBT), a charitable educational establishment, to promote and provide higher education in the country and in the State of West Bengal, in particular. KBT founded Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, (HIT) in 2001 to create a centre of excellence in technical education in eastern India. The aim is to be a leader in technical education in the country and to be at par with the best in the world. To achieve KBT’s objective, The Heritage School and the Heritage Institute of Technology were set up in 2001, while The Heritage Academy came up in 2007.
2013
Management Education Centre With the growing challenges in environment posed by globalization of Indian economy followed by signing of GATT, industry and academia cannot grow and develop in isolation. Management institutions today have to interact very closely with industry, on one hand, and the community, on the other. Keeping the global scenario in view, the Kalyan Bharti Trust established the Management Education Centre (MEC) under the banner of Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) with a view to impart management education. The affairs of the Institute are managed by the Kalyan Bharti Trust which in itself is the brainchild of a conglomerate of Kolkata based noted industrialists. As such, it has been possible for the Institute to establish and maintain close liaison with many industrial houses. The Institute organizes various courses during semester / summer breaks conjointly with different industries, which not only supplement the University’s syllabi but also provide the students with a cutting edge, which is so very vital in making the students employable and enterprising in future. A harmonious integration of our valued traditions with modern techno-outlook is the guiding principle behind the development of infrastructure and other facilities at MEC.

The supreme excellence is not to win a hundred victories in a hundred battles. The supreme excellence is to subdue the armies of your enemies without even having to fight them. The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence, regardless of his chosen field of endeavour. There are no speed limits on the road to excellence. Excellence is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
