9 am-12:30 pm

How do you get from here to there? A bus, a car, a train, a plane, maybe even a hot air balloon! Join us as we explore the world of transportation. You will come home with new ideas about how to get from here to there, and a few vehicles of your own!

RAHHHRRRR!! GRRROWL!! Purrrrrrr? What sound would you make if you were a monster? Come create your own monster identity with us this week, and practice some monster moves. Parents, don’t be surprised if your camper comes home with a few mini-monsters of their own design!

Do you go to unexpected worlds and create teams of heroes and friends who join you there? Do you want to tell us all about it? Peppercorn Theatre Teaching Artists want to hear all of your stories and help you to perform them and write them down. Together, we will create original stories, act out the events, and build a handmade book collecting it all to bring home on Friday!

9 am-4 pm

Bring your imagination to life! We will provide all the materials: tools, blocks, Legos, boxes, paints, and everything you need to build the landscapes and cities of your dreams. Every building has a story, and we will read about great structures that can inspire our own stories.

Explore the Museum as a super sleuth! Armed with a magnifying glass, you’re sure to uncover the solution to each day’s mystery. Learn how to study fingerprints and get into the minds of your favorite spies like Perry the Platypus and Inspector Gadget.

Dancers of all levels are invited to dance the week away! Be ready to spin like Angelina Ballerina or dance a royal waltz like Sofia the First. We will design our own tutu outfits for our final performance on Friday, so moms and dads, mark your calendars and bring your cameras!

Are you ready to get dirty? We’ll get down in the dirt and sand this week to learn more about what’s underneath our feet: mud, worms, bugs, etc., before we move in the other direction and build up above the ground: houses, offices, and skyscrapers. What kind of building would you like to design, and on which kind of ground would it stand?

Calling all singers, musicians, drummers, guitarists, and kazoo players extraordinaire! Make some noise while we build instruments, lay down some beats, learn new music, and sing silly songs. On Friday, we’ll perform our own short concert for our families and friends!

9 am-4 pm

Spend the week on an intergalactic journey! We’ll create props and costumes akin to our favorite characters from distant galaxies and alternate universes. Challenge yourself in outer space obstacle courses, practice your saber skills, create fun crafts, and more. May the Force be you!

Using the Prop Shop (our new maker space) for inspiration, campers will imagine, transform, and create! This hands-on experience invites campers to tell stories by making and building. Young creators will design and construct scenery, puppets, wigs, costumes, lights, and anything else they can imagine. On Friday, campers will host a showcase of their innovative designs, which will be featured the following week in the “Take Center Stage” camp!

Join us for a week of exploring music and rhythm and how it interacts with our daily lives! We’ll sing, play instruments, compose our own songs, and experiment with different types of music. A guest musician will visit, too! Our families and friends will join us on Friday for a performance of our own. No music background required.

Prism Pals

Potions in Motion

Spend a week exploring and looking down into the worlds below your feet. From plants and insects, through soil layers and critters that tunnel, you will experiment and discover the world of plants, animals, and minerals. There is more to see and do beneath your feet than you know.

Animals are fun to watch – if you can see them. We will investigate how animals use camouflage, movement, and eyesight to stay safe and capture their prey. Play a wildlife hide-n-seek game, make camo critters, and meet some resident animals up close!

Roses are red, and violets are blue, the only thing missing from this camp is you! Join us as we investigate the world of color, light, and shadows. Explore the magic of prisms, kaleidoscopes, and colors in nature.

Get your passports ready as we “travel” around the world. We will learn about all seven continents and study the unique people and animals who live there. From making our own glaciers and rainforests to crafting instruments and trinkets, we’ll discover more about the Earth and our place within it.

Are you tempted by secret passageways and mysterious codes? Bring your spy glasses and leave the squeaky shoes at home. We’ll take notes from animals and plants that are experts at the art of sneakiness, get the skinny on old and new forensic technology, and explore some hidden places.

Mixing colors and watching them change isn’t the only thing we will take away from this camp. We’ll create colorful works of art, build our own kaleidoscopes, and make colorful, chemical concoctions.

Earth is the planet we call home, and we know everything about it. Or do we? Learn about geography, Earth science, and the cultures of the continents. Our new abilities will be tested as we work to uncover secrets hidden around the Museum by following coordinates and using our knowledge of Earth and its customs.

Did you know there is an antelope with an elephant-like nose? Or a fish that “talks?” Some creatures have more than one type of DNA, while others glow in the dark. We’ll explore anomalies, create imaginary beasts, and discover unique physical and behavioral traits found in our resident animals.

We’ll measure and mix an array of chemicals to watch them change color, temperature, and density right before our eyes. We will learn about solids, liquids, and gases as our potions immerse you in the fizzy and fascinating world of chemistry!

Who says you have to finish college to get your Master’s Degree? This week, preschoolers and kindergartners have the chance to be masters of art! We will paint, create, sculpt, and design our own pieces of fine art and bring home a diploma when we graduate on Friday.

Get ready to jump and move with this exciting summer camp! The week will include relay games, yoga, hula hoops, running, jumping, and dancing. Exercise your body and mind with us!

Send your young painters to the Museum before school starts to end the summer with a splash in the paint bucket! Campers will experiment with different kinds of paints and application techniques to create stunning works of art. Make some room on the refrigerator!

From dinosaurs to puppy dogs, we will learn about animals from the jungle, the farm, the Ice Age, the zoo, the North Pole, the desert, and our own backyard! Meet some real animals and even romp, stomp, and roar like your favorite critters!

9 am-4 pm

Casting call: 1st—4th graders who are ready to put on a show! Our cast of campers, along with Peppercorn Theatre Teaching Artists, will spend the week writing scripts, building sets and costumes, and rehearsing for their opening performance on Friday. No previous acting experience required!

Be sure your sneakers are tied tightly this week, and be ready for some action! We will build and run obstacle courses, design our superhero armor, and train each other to be the best heroes and heroines in North Carolina. Pose for your action shot!

Shadow puppets, paper puppets, fabric, and string … puppets dance, puppets cry, puppets giggle and sing! Build puppets with Teaching Artists from Peppercorn Theatre and the Manager of the Prop Shop. Then make your new creations come to life when you perform for your parents and friends on Friday!

Explore why things glow in the dark, and create some crafts and wearables that glow and shine! We’ll experiment with different techniques for lighting up the night and throw a glow-in-the-dark dance party before we leave.

From the Ground Down

Dinos, Volcanoes, and Geodes

Let’s investigate things we find in the sky. Insects and birds are animals. Planes, kites, and balloons are made by people. But don’t forget the sun, moon, clouds, and rainbows. There is so much to enjoy if we just look up.

Take a closer look at your favorite dinosaurs – from T.rex and triceratops to stegosaurus and velociraptor. Learn about the hunters and plant-eating giants, and discover how scientists uncover mysteries of these animals from the past.

Your feet are firmly planted on the ground, but your imagination can soar with butterflies, balloons, and birds. How can things get up and stay up? Explore these masters of flight and design some of your own.

What mysteries can be found when you explore from the ground down? Will the earth’s layers reveal the life of plants and animals, the death of prehistoric creatures, the renewal of the geologic landforms of earth? What can caves, canyons, and excavations reveal? Discover the secrets hidden below us.

We’ll launch rockets, test the physics of aircraft flight, perform crash landings, and even see what we can learn from our animal friends. From ancient mechanisms of flight to space travel, we’ll take a hands-on look at the history of humans getting things off the ground.

Encounter the most magnificent reptiles to ever roam the Earth, find the clues they left behind, and explore the technology and tools used to un-earthed them. We’ll examine the geological and astronomical processes that led to the extinction of these oncedominant creatures.
