dedicated to the young in heart who love BABA.

I The Boat Song When the tongue is silent the mind begins to speak. When the mind is silent the heart begins to sing. When the heart stops singing the soul begins to breathe Meher Baba! Meher Baba! We belong to you. Tongue and. mind, mind and heart fall away in sleep. Yet the boat sails on for ever, the ocean water is deep. Meher Baba! Meher Baba! We belong to you.

2 The Poet You are the poet who lies in my heart, Baba, 0 Baba! Rocked, rocked, rocked To and fro, ever and ever To and fro. Always wherever I go, I see the Beloved, rocked in the cradle

of many hearts. Poet of life, You are lying secure, where none can see you or guess that you are there or snatch you away. As salt mixed with water, so can we never be parted Thou and I. Rocked in the cradle of mind is my Beloved of heart Baba, 0 Baba!

3 Sing His Name Singing His Name singing again sing of Meher Baba! Light the flame of love again sing of Meher Baba! Every man a brother, every girl a sister, we are one in Baba! Nothing more is needed, if His words are heeded sing of Meher Baba!

4 The Fountain You are not indifferent to the beggars at your door we lingered and loitered, you came to the door! You opened it wide to show us your face, the poor and the thirsty, each one to embrace. At the fountain of love we may each drink our fill, the wine is spilling over to share if you will.

5 Silent Prayer Awake from sleep God is there, deep within say a prayer. Keep the silence, do not speak. He is here to find who seek. Keep the silence, find the peace. He is here and pain will cease.

P 6 Love of Loves Wherever I you are my wherever I you are my

go I take you along love of loves go you lead me on, love of loves.

Each time I fall you pick me up, my God is my Beloved! It is your smile that lifts me up, my God is my Beloved!

7 Snow and. Sun You and. I are one Baba tells us so. He will never leave us let everything go! A rain of compassion, falling flakes of snow. He is our Beloved., let everything go! Under the snow flowers are growing, young tender shoots soon will be showing. Then the sun will shine melting the snow. Stay with the Beloved. let everything go!

8 The Helmsman My little boat is rocking out in mid—stream. Where am I going, is it all a dream? Give me a Helmsman who has traversed the seas, unafraid of storm winds, not here to please. This darkness of ignorance, who can remove? None but the Master by the power of His love. He only brings light to steer my boat free. Guide in the darkness, Star of the sea.

9 Silver Moon The voice of Truth is clear, it is rippling a warning shining like a silver moon in the dark o± morning. Vthose voice is that? How can you doubt it, you who can hear it? Wake, o wake from sleep! No—one can fear it. Whose voice is that? ‘Why do you sleep?” it sings, “dreaming in the morning.” Eternal spring awakens, eternal youth is calling. hose voice is that?

10 Bliss

When I see You there before me I cannot look away again. My eyes see naught but You, the dry earth soaks up rain. My thoughts are at Your feet and threaded around You. All the patterns You weave are colouring my dreams. Each time I think of You I drop out in bliss. Confusion creeps away, my eyes receive a Idsa.

11 The Master That s all this joy about? 1 Thy is He smiling through each disaster? How can there be peace, living here on earth under the cloud? Keep Him in sight. He is the shining Light, He will bring peace. That’s all this love about? It is He, loving us. It is the Master.

12 Echoes You are in the bird. You are in the tree. You are in the flower and in the smallest bee. You are in the river running free and in the sandy wastes beside the sea. And the sea—birds cry is a sigh, and a longing for Thee. The song which echoes through all eternity.

True Love Malce a melody in your heart, do not speak of it. Keep the sacred strings apart from common noise and din. Build the bird of love a nest and dwell therein.

13 The Summit of Joy I have spoken with God. on His holy hill. I have drunk my fill of silence and wished that all noise would cease, and only music sound, and there should be peace. Rhythmic voices and feet, voices of birds and trees and fast flowing narrow streams. Dancing feet that pound the ground in a whirl of dreams. I have lived on the summit of joy and heard His voice in my heart. When I called aloud His name He sent me a message of love. The Lord in His mercy came.

14 New Sun A new sun is rising, a new age begins. We are all His lovers, our Beloved God wjthlfl. Meher Baba is the song, the song of Love about us. He will shower mercy—bliSS and He will change us. He has opened wide the door, He has turned the key. Come, take the Love He brings and scatter it widely.

It is now we must begin to spend the treasure rare. t is now we must live hen love is to give and to spare. strength and joy and mercy we can bring it in. Meher, Meher, mercy Love will bring it in.

15 Roses The roses of Baba are filling His garden and. filling His room with their scent. Buds are opening and petals falling and others are blooming for Him. They are living and they are dying and silently singing His name. THE ROSE OF THE WORLD. October You are far too good to me Ah me! where would I be without a riend? When the mists come do Dark weather sets in. Then we hide within and sit alone with hand beneath the chin. Ah me! where would I be without a F’iend?

16 The Foolish Heart A foolish ignorant heart began to cry “Give me Light ! A weak voice begged for power and energy to overcome sin, weakness and death. And why should He care? Mistake after mistake she made she bad flung her life away. “Where is the Truth and where is Love and where s a true friend?” The poor and the humble are there, and why should He care? She turned her back on mockery and pride, she left intellect behind, and laughingly opened a door to see TRUTh was inside. He smiled and said “Come!” But why should He care? He cared because He dared to sacrifice His life And His great heart knows all. “It is all a Game and life is a stage.” His Love is paramount in my heart and His perfection is my gauge.

17 Dust The dust is flying around Thick on the ground. Dirt is flying around unsound, inert. It it it it

rushes past your feet, crashes past your ears offends your sight, brings tears.

It hurts your mind, it cheapens your God. An insult to womankind, cheap is dirt. In His image we were made art and music told. Dirt is flying around. His cross is sold.

18 Passer—by Rich fi?lds of corn, hillsides newly shorn, dark woods nestling in a sweet curve of Down. Speak to me of love unshared by man, the unprepared. You and me beloved are man, mountain and tree. Man and tree, wood and lea, never has such ecstasy sped between Thee and me. Accept my love 0 Passer—by.

Prom the Train Bless the plovers in the grass. Bless the furrows in the field. Bless the gentle shoots of corn pushing up in spite of frost. Bless the trees in winter sleep holding fingers to the wind. Bless the quietly browsing sheep on the rounded sloping hill. Bless the river in its flood. the joy of living free, free to love and worship Thee. All is one divine intensity and perfection in a daisy.

20 Thoughts about War I see a shining way before me in the dark night of chaos. Hatred and violence, blind ignorance rules the lives of men; But the smoke cannot hide it. The forest is darkened, the trees are falling, crashing behind me. “Keep looking ahead!” People are dying, groaning; children are crying or silent. The shining way is there alllcan do is to go forward. On the way, stumbling I met a man. He recognised me. “Ab friend, let’ s go on together.” We run from day to day trusting. “The Way is there, the Light shineth, We are on our Way!”

21 The Word An arrow pierces my heart A voice speaks. Ptom whence? Above, below, around or within? It speaks, like the wind in pine trees. And distant thunder coming, like the sea mirnrniring or a dove in heavenly woods. It grows, it reaches ecstasy. It tells me all I ever wished to know9 It thrills, it transforms. It is the Beloved who speaks as if a sword ran thru me. o Life! 0 Love, AWA! It is BABA who speaks THE WORD.

22 The

Smile

I am a beggar at your door and ask a boon. I stand waiting outside for You to turn your head • and smile. o Glorious God! Where you walk is heaven, people follow You and talk but You are silent. You are not indifferent to the beggars at your door who are waiting. You came so soon to help us aad we were late, lingering too long in the muddy ways of the world. How poor we are and thirsty, now we want a drink of pure water at the fountain of love to wash our bodies clean, our minds to offer as a cup. Harken beggars, Now it is BABA who speaks the VORD!

23 A Voice Early morning mist. Thud, thud, red apples falling. A voice in the tree sings softly ghazals to Lord Baba. The Rock Peace and joy. Love and laughter all stem from the Beloved & dwells in our hearts. He is there unseen our inspiration. He is the immovable rock, on which we build. He is love, He is joy, He is peace, We have become a thread in the hem of His garment.

24 Drowned Love is above all, greater than all, sweeter than all, all in all. Divine Love is all—pervading. Wave upon wave enters us, covers us like a shower of bliss, until we are submerged and diowned in Love for Baba. 1967 The Great Heart How can we know Him, we humankind? How can we know Him? We can never know Him, we can only trust, we can only feel His great loving Heart.

25 Presence

o

BelovecU The darkness is beautiful with Thy Presence. In the darkness I feel You approach and Your Love—Blessing comes then to me. No loneliness is here, only the hand of God touches my head.

26 In Rnembrance of MarSr Backett Clear and cool beneath her snowy parted hair, yet warmer hearted than any she is sitting in her chair, my friend Mary. Can any find so dear a face so sweet a voice and warm embrace such fireside welcome with wordless thoughts abounding, than here with Mary? Here we sit in silent thought or talk and laugh at ease, no time or place, but a moment of eternity to be with Mary.

27 Harmony The wind and the waves speak to each other. They do not quarrel, they agree. Wind says, “I am He! God blows thru me. Listen, do you hear? By me he cleans the world.” Waves reply, “I am She! God surges in me, lifts me. I dance for ever. None knows me.”

28 Swan Sound Whore are you now my Swan? flying over the marshes, can you hear my voice calling you again? Bending low I listen my head is near the ground. Your silent voice answers in my heart a sound. Each one hears a whisper, the storm winds are rising, everything is stirring the Swan is soon returning.

29 Hymn to Meher Baba

He is the power and glory of the sun. He is the lonely beauty of the moon. His words of wisdom are circling the world like the stars in brightness. He has the levelling ciuality of water and the rich depth of the earth. But His Love is the air we. breathe.
