Pasadena ISD Health & PE Coordinators, Amber Macneish and Alise Neff, announced that the Alliance for a Healthier Generation named 13 Pasadena ISD campuses as America’s Healthiest Schools for their dedication to health during the 2023-2024 school year. These schools excelled in areas such as strengthening social-emotional health & learning, cultivating staff well-being, increasing family & community engagement, improving nutrition & food access, implementing local school wellness policies, bolstering physical education & activity, enriching health education, promoting tobacco-free schools, and supporting school health services. This annual recognition honors schools for implementing best practices to support the health of students, staff, and families. Eight hundred and seventy-nine schools across 30 states were awarded this year.

PASADENA ISD EARNS ENERGY STAR

Since partnering with Cenergistic, Pasadena ISD has achieved a 24% reduction in energy use, lowering expected energy costs and continuing to grow savings as the program is refined. In 2024, the district’s energy conservation efforts earned ENERGY STAR certification for 11 campuses, marking the fourth consecutive year of national recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency. This certification is awarded to buildings performing in the top 25% nationwide for energy efficiency and meeting strict ventilation standards, making it the only U.S. certification based on verified energy performance. The ENERGY STAR program highlights PISD’s strong commitment to energy conservation. The schools include: Beverly Hills Intermediate, Dobie 9, The Frank Braden Center, Golden Acres Elementary, Kendrick Middle, L. F. Smith Elementary, Moore Elementary, Pomeroy Elementary, Red Bluff Elementary, Sparks Elementary, and Teague Elementary.

PERSONNEL

Rachel Siegner was approved for the position of Counselor at Pasadena Memorial High School for the 2024-2025 school year.

EDUCATIONAL

Tiffany Davis was approved for the position of Grants Compliance Coordinator for the 2024-2025 school school year.

• The Memorandum of Understanding between Pasadena ISD and AVANCE-Houston, Inc. in the amount of $48,000

FINANCIAL

• An order authorizing the issuance of Pasadena Independent School District unlimited tax refunding bonds in one or more series; setting certain parameters for the bonds; authorizing a pricing officer to approve the amount, the interest rate, price, including the terms thereof, and other matters related thereto

• The 2024-2025 Financial Compliance schedule

• Budget amendments for September 2024

OPERATIONS

• The design services agreement with Salas O’Brien Engineers for the 2022 Bond HVAC priority chiller replacements at Miller IS & Golden Acres ES in the amount of $70,000 and a total project budget of $1,070,000

• Design services agreement with GPD Group The 2022 Bond CTE Culinary Arts High Schools Project at Sam Rayburn HS, South Houston HS, Pasadena Memorial HS, and Dobie HS, in the amount of $243,750 and a total project budget of $3,600,000.

• A design services agreement to LTY Engineers for the 2022 Bond CTE Welding Lab Improvements at Pasadena High School Project in the amount of $29,890 and a total project budget of $456,890.

• Allowance Expenditure Authorization (AEA) No. 011 for the 2022 Bond CTE Classroom and Lab Improvements Project in the amount of $28,961.38

• Allowance Expenditure Authorization (AEA) No. 07 for the 2022 Bond New Parks Elementary School Replacement Project in the amount of $32,333

• The conveyance of a CenterPoint Energy sidewalk easement to Pasadena ISD, located within a right of way at South Houston High School in the amount of ten dollars

At the Pasadena ISD school board meeting on Sept. 26, the district recognized campuses that have been developing student leadership teams. A total of 17 campuses across the district received the TEPSA Student Leadership Award, which honors teams demonstrating exceptional leadership, dedication, and a commitment to positive change. Additionally, Young Elementary, Sparks Elementary, Teague Elementary, and Fred Roberts Middle School were recognized for receiving the 2024 American Student Council Association School of Excellence award. The following school’s were recognized for recieving the TEPSA Student Leadership Award:

HASSON HALLWAY AT PARKVIEW

At Park View Intermediate, the main hallway will be named “Hasson Hallway” in honor of Dr. Robert Hasson, who dedicated 23 years of service to Pasadena ISD. Dr. Hasson served as principal of Park View for 17 years and as assistant principal for 3 years, making a lasting impact on the school and its community. The dedication recognizes his commitment and contributions to education within the district.

CTE AWARDS TWO OUTSTANDING PARTNERS AND RAYBURN TEACHERS

Career and Technical Education recognized key contributors on Tuesday night. PSO Supervisor Preston Moody of the Pasadena Police Department received the Business-Education Partnership Award for his efforts in student recruitment, certification mentorship, and involvement in CTE competitions. Cristina Womack, President and CEO of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, earned the Champion for CTE Award for her leadership in supporting CTE initiatives, including job fairs and fundraising events. Sam Rayburn High School’s Agriculture Mechanics program, led by David Gutierrez and Noah Schramm-Phelps, received the CTE Showcase of Excellence Award after winning four GRAND CHAMPION titles at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Industrial Craft Competition.

• The Memorandum of Understanding with AVANCEHouston Early Head Start Program for the 20242025 school year

Christoper Puente was approved for the position of Multilingual Coordintor for Curriculum & Instruction for the 2024-2025 school year.

• Partnership between the Pasadena Independent School District and Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES) for implementation of Super Smile Savers Program

• A School Affiliation Agreement between Pasadena ISD and HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast

The board of trustees approved the following items:

• A Clinical Affiliation Agreement between Texas Woman’s University and Pasadena ISD Nutrition Services Department

• The Memorandum of Understanding with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston to allow campus presentations of the Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) Program

• Multiple 2024 Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grant Awards totaling $11,569

• The Criminal Justice Division of the Texas Office of the Governor (CJD) Rifle-Resistant Body Armor grant award in the amount of $16,461

• The Texas Education Agency 2024-2026 Effective School Framework-ESF Focused Support grant in the amount of $100,000

• Texas Education Agency 2024-2025 Sustainable Residency Continuation Grant for $250,000 and the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Houston

• The SPARK School Park Program projects for Kruse Elementary and Sparks Elementary and the Corresponding Agreement including $250,000 in funding

• The Sam Rayburn High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Raiders Co-ed Team to compete at the National Raider Challenge at Fort Knox, KY., October 24-27, 2024

• The Sam Rayburn High School Texan Culinary Team to travel to Orlando, Florida April 25-30, 2025, to compete in the Cook Around the World Culinary Competition at an estimated amount of $2,000 per student

• For seniors in the Maritime and Criminal Justice programs of study at the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career and Technical High School to participate in a hands-on cruise experience aboard a Carnival Cruise February 15-20, 2025

• That one Dobie High School FFA Member and one FFA teacher to travel to Indianapolis, Indiana on October 19-26, 2024, to attend the National FFA Convention
