REGULAR BOARD MEETING
SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS
Read to the Final Four
USDA Turnip the Beet Award
3 Schools Earn PLC Award
The Board of Trustees recognized Kruse Elementary for their legendary run in the “Read to the Final Four” competition sponsored by the NCAA Men’s Final Four. Kruse Elementary third graders placed second place amongst two hundred schools from throughout the Houston area.
Pasadena ISD has been awarded the USDA’s Turnip the Beet award for the second year in a row in recognition of their exceptional efforts to provide nutritious and delicious summer meals in 2022. The district was one of only 26 winners in Texas and among 98 nationwide to receive this honor. The award acknowledges outstanding Summer Meal Programs that offer high-quality meals to children during summer months, ensuring they are healthy and prepared for school in the fall.
Kruse Elementary, Pomeroy Elementary, and Southmore Intermediate have now joined the ranks of nationally recognized Model PLC schools. After an extensive application process, which demonstrates the support of students in a collaborative environment while also showing data driven evidence of that work through improved student achievement for a minimum of three years.
It was a proud moment for the campus and Pasadena ISD to witness these hardworking students reach such a milestone. As a result, the Kurse Elementary campus library was awarded $2,000 and each third grade student that participated was awarded a brand new bicycle.
To earn this recognition districts must serve local foods with a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products. The board of Trustees recognizes Mary Harryman and Jodie DeFrancesco for their commitment to Pasadena ISD Child Nutrition.
