I broke away from my normally hard-edged technique. This painting is much more free than my usual self-imposed color-in-between-the-lines style. Well, okay. It’s all about me after all; July 18 I became 80 years old. The whole world is shut down. Thousands of people are succumbing to the COVID-19 virus every day. This artist’s birthday made not so much as a ripple in the greater scheme of things. My loving wife and I went out to dinner and no waiters showed up with a dessert with a candle and birthday song. Gratitude and humility don’t always come easily.
