LEADERSHIP
President's Hello Paschal Key Clubbers, Back in May, we started our new journey with goals to celebrate service, leadership, and family. It is incredible that next week, we'll be closing the 2014-15 Key Club term and opening a new one at our annual District Convention. Looking back now, we've all grown significantly. We've motivated more people to join Paschal Key Club, attended more service projects, and had more socials. I hope each and every one of you is proud of your accomplishments. Because of your efforts as a Paschal Key Clubber, we have a lot to celebrate. Together, we've performed over 1200 hours of community service! In terms of leadership, we now have more active members who participate in Key Club events regularly. I really want to thank you for all of the service that you do. You are all truly amazing people, and I look forward to celebrating a magnificent year of service and leadership with you. I know the weekend at Convention will be full of new experiences, new friendships, inspiring moments, and celebration. Thank you once again for your service this year. You have taken the opportunity to open doors for yourself and others that will last for many years. Yours in service, Junsung Lee

Editor's Note Hello everyone! Well, this is it. We've had an amazing year at Key Club. I think it's safe to say it has been my favorite year. You guys have been so awesome - I am proud of everyone!! Not only did we increase membership but we were able to maintain it throughout the year. It is because of your continued enthusiasm for service and sense of community that we were able to accomplish so many wondeful feats. We have so worked long and hard to make Paschal Key Club a well-known club at our school. And I hope you all will continue to leave a legacy of service in the future years. I have enjoyed being your editor this year, and I just know that Sue will lead the newsletter to infinity and beyond. Yours in service, Sarika Sabnis
by Chloe Underwood This past weekend I had the opportunity to volunteer at the TCU Reading Festival. At the event I was able to read to 3rd and 4th graders from an elementary school in Azle. I feel like this was an event that didn’t get enough credit for what it was doing. Teaching younger kids and encouraging them to read more is such an important thing because reading is the foundation to everything in life. When you can read well, you will do better in school by improve your writing, and ultimately have more success. At the event we were split up into small groups and I read to five kids. They then took turns reading to me. Sometimes we forget how important it is to be a positive influence and role model on younger kids. The event wasn’t all about reading, however. We got to try and teach the kids how to line dance, which is an important thing for any Texan to know! It was great to watch them try and do something that most adults can’t do. This was such a fun event and I will definitely be doing it next year.

GirlUp & World Water Day by Janet Diaz Nearly 800 million people around the world are living without access to clean water; women are disproportionately affected by this epidemic. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, women spend 16 million hours collecting water each day. In the month of March, the world celebrated International Women’s Day and World Water Day. To spread awareness about issues women and girls face around the world, the Paschal Key Club partnered with Girl Up to carry jerrycans filled with water. Key Clubbers carried jerrycans that, when filled with water, can weigh up to 40 pounds. This is not comparable to the arduous journey that people, especially women, make on a daily basis to fetch water that’s likely contaminated. (On average, these women have to walk 15-25 miles to and from the water source, everyday.) But by carrying a jerrycan for a day, Key Clubbers were able to raise awareness about world issues and replicated a piece of a woman’s daily journey. Women are twice as likely to collect water than men, meaning that women will take time out of their day to walk for water instead of pursuing other opportunities such as attending school or earning extra income. About ten people carried bright, yellow jerrycans to their classes each day. Key Clubbers announced to their peers why they were carrying a jerrycan and then asked for donations. These jerrycans got heavy! The weight of the jerrycans pulled down on Key Clubbers, so at times, jerrycan-carriers stood to the side of the hall to take a break, adjust their backpacks and continue carrying the 20+ pounds of water. By the end of the day, everyone’s arms were sore, and their hands callused beyond belief. Although our pain was incomparable to the daily suffering of women and their families across the globe, it allowed us all to put our lifestyles into perspective. I think everyone felt grateful for simple commodities in their lives, such as running tap water, and even the water fountains in the school. Girl Up is a United Nations Foundation Campaign that raises awareness and funds for girls in developing nations. The money raised by partnering with Paschal Key Club will go to girls in Malawi, Ethiopia, Liberia and Guatemala.

AIDS Walk Is Fun All Around by Moni Gunderson I was among a numerous amount of Paschal Key Club members who volunteered at the 23rd annual Tarrant County’s AIDS Walk on Sat. March 21. This walk was held on a rainy, but pretty spring day in a park near West 7th. When we first arrived at the walk, we were given volunteer t-shirts and vouchers for free In-n-Out Burger for later that day. After checking in with the Kiwanis that had set up an information tent at the walk, we were told to hang around for a couple of hours and then to check back in when the walk had officially started. So our club walked over to the near-by Chick-fil-a to get one of the best breakfast foods around, Chicken Minis.
We stood near the finish-line for a while where we cheered and encouraged walkers and ended our day eating Inn-n-Out burger on benches in the park. Although we didn’t help quite as much as we would have liked to, it ended up being a successful Saturday morning because we got to spend time in a super pretty green park, with other cool Key Clubbers that we got to know better, while getting a lot of free stuff. What’s not to like about that?
SELFLESSNESS
After relaxing and eating at the Chick-fil-a, we headed back over to the park where some members went to various vendors, picking up free goodies, or others who listened to the band that was playing some interesting screamo-music. Other members played with the puppies that animal shelters had there, while others, including myself, walked around the park, enjoying a pretty morning in Fort Worth.
