The Convening of Elders: Installation Dinner by Isheta Kumar

COMMUNITY

Pizza. Friends. Fun. That's what went down at the Key Club Instillation Dinner, where our Key Club welcomed its new officers and said goodbye to its old ones. The "party" started when the upcoming and soon retiring officers arrived at Ms. Holland's house, where everyone hung out. After everyone had arrived, the instillation part of the Instillation Dinner started. After a representative from Kiwanis announced Junior Junsung Lee and Senior Katie Kroll the winners of the Key Club scholarships, An Bui, our division 1S lieutenant governor helped our club say good bye to our former president, Katie Kroll, and welcome our new officers, Junsung Lee (President),Page Trotter (VP), Janet Diaz (Secretary), Diana Lee (Treasurer), Sarika Sabnis (Editor), and Jillian Daugherty, Ashlie Devenney, Moni Gunderson, and Isheta Kumar (members-at-large). Soon after all of the new officers pledged to be dedicated to Key Club for the next year, the party began! Soon after all the serious stuff was over, Ms. Denton brought pizza for all of the officers, both old and new, and everyone ate outside and talked, played badminton, and just had fun! Before we knew it, it was time to cut the cookie cake and end our Installation Dinner fun. All our officers for the next school year left the dinner motivated to help our club grow into something even greater than it is (if that's possible)!

Adventures in Recycling: Electronics Edition

LEADERSHIP

by Sue Youn Oh

8

On Saturday May 17, 2014, the Sierra Club, Commodities Recycling, and Paschal High School joined forces to make the world a little cleaner, a little more sustainable by holding an electronic recycling event. All sorts of junk were brought out, such as broken fans, an ancient Macintosh, and even TVs. All the volunteers worked hard for three hours, greeting people that dropped off electronics, filling large boxes with electronic devices, and even learning how to use a jack. It was a great event that taught me more about how to live sustainably, and what we as individuals can do to make a change. Even something as little as using cloth bags for groceries instead of plastic bags can make a difference.

by J端nsung Lee On May 24th, I went to Laural Land Cemetery to put down flags on veterans' graves. We were notified at the very last minute about this event so we weren't able to get many members to participate. However, there were several people from other key clubs and other organizations ,and janet and I worked very efficiently for several hours. Throughout this event, I was able to see that the veterans served overseas and fought in several major wars such as Korean War, WWI & WWII, and Vietnam War.It was an honor to come out and volunteer at Laural Land Cemetery, and I hope next year more key clubbers join this service project.
