President's Note Hey Key Clubbers!
October was a super busy month, congratulations to all the hardworking seniors who made their Early Action deadlines! Stay classy and keep on trucking to get in the rest of those applications. Also, great job on making Top 25, Key Club!! Let's keep it up so we can get a lot of prizes at DCON! Yours in service, Junsung Lee
Editor's Note Hey guys! October was a busy month for everyone -- especially for the seniors who were submitting to schools for Early Action! Congratulations on getting the first wave of college apps out of the way. I wish you all tremendous good luck! In other news, a huge congratulations to US for making Top 25 this month!! We get points by doing everything from service projects to submitting articles to the Tex-O-Key, so it is really awesome that all of you helped in making this possible this month. Let's keep up the fantastic work for November!

Honored Hero Run by Sujata Dalal The day after Homecoming for most high schoolers is always a dead day. It’s a day where you rest, relax, and recuperate from your extensive partying of the night before. But for everyone at Key Club, life and events go on, and the service never stops. This year, on the day after Homecoming, volunteers were needed to work water stops for the Honored Hero Run. During the week before the event, I decided to help out my community as every good Key Clubber should and volunteer at the run. So the morning of the run, I showed up bleary-eyed and in need of a good extra twelve hours of sleep, but I was also ready to help out in anyway that I could.
COMMUNITY
At the run we handed out cups filled with water and Gatorade, and what’s more – we got to witness the power of motivation and self-determination at its full application. As each participant in the race passed by and received a cup, it was easy to see how driven they were to succeed. They were also extremely grateful for our help, which, for me, was the best part about the event. Every time one of the runners thanked us for our help I felt like I had made an impact and it was an exhilarating feeling. Overall, I had a great time helping out at the Honored Hero Run and am glad I decided to wake up early and help out my community.

The Senior Da
HONOR
by Andrew Nguyen Everyone has a different story to tell for his or her Senior Day of Service tale. Mine was spent with a group of people I have gotten so close to since the beginning of school. For the day of service, I went with the botany class to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. We were assigned various jobs around the gardens, from raking the autumn leaves to collecting organic matter for composting. I, along with the rest of my botany classmates, got a lot of hands-on experience through this service project, and we hope to put the skills we learned at the Gardens to some use, when we begin our greenhouse project later in the year. It was an enriching experience in many ways; we were helping out the city of Fort Worth, while also learning how to maintain a functioning greenhouse, among other information concerning gardening in Texas weather. The Gardens gave us a very informative session about how to compost, as well as information about the best native Texas plants. I was even able to research at their demonstration gardens in order to find information for my botany class. After our class finished up, we got to walk around the Gardens and take in the beautiful outdoors during that warm and crisp morning. Apart from the work, relaxing in the gardens afterwards was great bonus. I have been going to high school with these lovely classmates for the last three years, and this was a great way to kick off the first of many huzzahs we’ll be partaking in for our senior year. I'm so happy I participated and it even counts towards my required service hours! I hope to participate in this kind of work again in the future.

e, I decided to spend my e Saint Paul Lutheran ed Braille bibles for the around 8-10 of us there. le doing something good Service was a great idea d next year. It's a great our cold auditorium and What's there to lose when and helping others?
Instead of sitting in the gym or staying at home while the rest of the school took the PSAT or pre-ACT, I took part in the Senior Day of Service. This was the first year for the project, and it gave seniors an opportunity to volunteer at various locations in the Paschal community. The day started with a meeting in the auditorium, and the interim superintendent came and talked to us about how proud she was of our community activism. My service location was the Southside Church of Christ. The group I was with -- about 20 students – was in charge of cleaning their extensive garden. We cleared out dead leaves and branches, reorganized pathways, and picked green beans. The church had a lot of opportunities for beautification, and especially after the crazy storm that hit Fort Worth a few days prior to the Day of Service, there was a lot of work to be done. The project took about four hours, and we were surprised by how quickly the time passed. It was great to see how much better the garden looked after just a morning’s worth of work. The Senior Day of Service was a fun and rewarding day to spend a school day: community service and a free day with my close friends – who could ask for more?

good kid, mAAd hatter. by Betsy Guzman Waking up really early on a Saturday morning may seem a little crazy especially for volunteering but the Mad Hatter 5K was actually a pretty great experience! My friends and I were assigned to the the same spot, where we had to direct the runners where to go and especially to cheer them on. It was really nice since you could tell they appreciated the support even if they walked instead of run. And after the runners passed, we could go to the front where it was all over; it was nice to just go and eat the yummy muffins and smoothie samples they were provided for us – always nice after waking up on a cold Saturday morning!! And even if it was a pain to get up early, I'm glad I did because it was a lot of fun!
'F' is for Friends by Carter Dickson
PASSION
On Thursday, October 23rd, several Key Clubbers volunteered to help out the participants of the Friends of the River run in Trinity Park. In this run, groups of people ran or walked through the park in order to support the cleaning of the Trinity River. As these people ran, they got pretty thirsty; that’s where we came in. Standing at the halfway point of the race, we handed out water to all the runners and walkers who passed by us. It was really an amazing thing to see all the people that were willing to run the course in order to benefit the community. After about an hour of hydrating the runners, the race was winding down, so we decided headed over to Montgomery Plaza to see all the restaurants and businesses that came out to support this event. Cane’s, Railhead, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Pop and Cream, and more all came out to the Party on the Plaza to give all the participants and volunteers a chance to sample their delicious food. The entire experience was really fun and amazing! It made all of us overjoyed to see so many people rally behind our community and river as a whole by running this course, and we all loved the chance to help them out in any way.
