CELEBRATE, REMEMBER, FIGHT BACK SARIKA SABNIS

This year was my fifth in being involved in American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life event. Even though the year was incredibly crazy for me, I knew I could not possibly let go of putting time into this event, as it is very dear to my heart. My grandmother and uncle both died from cancer, and one of my best friend’s mother was diagnosed a few years ago.

concerns and well-wishes with every understanding and caring person around you. And the undying spirit of the cancer survivors, coupled with the equally as powerful spirit of their supporters, serve as a constant reiteration of Relay’s motto: “Celebrate. Remember. Fight back.” With this mantra, the people of Relay for Life continue to make each year as fulfilling and worthwhile as the previous one.

People often ask me what the most uplifting part of Relay is, and for me, it is the inspirational and incredible atmosphere that you are immersed into that makes it such a fulfilling experience. Being in the company of so many others who face or have faced the same struggles in dealing with cancer as you have brings about a welcoming sense of security and trust, one in which you can share your

I had a great time talking to all of the participants, collecting signatures to support funding of cancer research, and even getting a chance to talk to the Kiwanis table that was in attendance, as well! This time next year, I hope to have a Paschal team of our own set up shop and participate as a school!

PRESIDENT’S NOTE I am so excited to be this year’s Key Club president! I’m looking forward to leading this club to a new high point, getting a bunch of recognition from Tex-O-Key, as well as drinking a lot of Coke and kicking butt in service. The elections this past month have me super excited to start our new year with a super team of some really great individuals! Even if some of us are very new to this, I just know that with the help of both our oldies and newbies, we can achieve something very special. The best thing about Key Club, in my opinion, is learning to work hard as a team and to help each other out in order to make the whole experience awesome-r for everyone!

Yours in service, Junsung Lee

VIDEO PARTY LIKE NO OTHER JAKE MARTINEZ

was hilarious having Junsung as an action hero, and it fit him well. Filming and editing the video with my rather filmy friend Izzie was loads of fun. We got to mess with camera angles, video effects, and learned a thing or two about patience as we went through take after take of Junsung trying unsuccessfully to flip his hat. The video took a few hours to complete, but with the endless antics of Grant, Katie, and Zach it was worth the time. At the end of the day we all I can speak for everyone when I say working on the Key Club video was a wondrous experience. It learned a little bit about Korean Action Stars, and ourselves.

SUMMER IS NEAR, SERVICE IS ALWAYS HERE DIANA LEE

Are you bored because you don’t have anything to do during summer? Why not try and take part in a variety of volunteer activities instead of sitting on your couch all day, every day? Summer is great time to participate in community service because you only have so much free time. Volunteering has the potential to better your life in so many ways, such as helping you build confidence. Community service can also help you in the long run. Many students need to develop communication skills that are required by many employers, those in charge of YOUR future job.

You can better these communication skills through volunteering. Volunteering is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new things, and build leadership skills! Instead of wasting your time during summer, participate in community services that will not only make your life better, but make tons of other people's lives better. Not only will you be helping people through community service, but you will also be having fun. Now get off that couch and volunteer!

“If you want to be an official Key Club member, hit me up with $15.”

SOCIALS

Socials are a great way to get to know your fellow Key Clubbers! Have an idea for one? Contact a member of the board!

FIRST DCON JITTERS ALI THORBURN

My first DCON was more amazing than I could have hoped for! Before I went I didn't know much about how key club worked or what it was all about. I really learned so much about what it means to be in key club and how far our reach is. In only the Texas Oklahoma district there were thousands of people. It really pumped me up to serve. But more than that it was just fun. I met new people from all over Texas and Oklahoma. I bonded with my own key club a lot over the weekend. This years DCON was a good mix of learning and fun. All in all I don't think that I could have made it any better if I had tried.

LAST DCON BLUES ABBEY JACKSON This year I attended my last DCON. It was a great way to end my Key Club career because I got to be around other people who enjoy Key Club as much as I do. We had a great time making the scrapbook that showed our involvement in our community and school. The Key Note speaker was not only funny and entertaining, but also had an inspiring message. Through DCON, I’ve learned how to lead others in service and stand up for the things I believe in. The conventions I’ve attended have made a lasting impact on me, and I’ll always remember my experiences I’ve had.

MORE INFORMATION WHAT IS KEY CLUB?

DISTRICT CONVENTION

Key Club is an international organization with a mission to serve others. By being a part of Key Club at Paschal, you are given the opportunity to participate in service projects with friends and make a difference in your community. What could be better than helping others while having fun?

District Convention (DCON) is an event for the Texas– Oklahoma District to gather and learn more about Key Club, share experiences from the past year, and make more memories. From forums to banquets to caucuses and voting, DCON is an unforgettable experience. Sophomore Moni Gunderson revisits DCON from her Freshman year, “DCON was an action-packed, incredibly fun, unforgettable weekend experience. I had so much fun learning more about Key Club and meeting new people. I am so happy that I went and I am planning on going every year.” It’s never too early to think about DCON, which occurs around the beginning of April. Ask someone who has been about it, and start getting excited for 2014 District Convention!
