A Note from Your 3President and Editor Hey Key Club! We have had an eventful month! I would like to thank everyone who devoted their time to serving the community as the holidays draw near and the need for volunteers increases rapidly. We participated in several events in November: Ronald McDonald House ice cream social, Young Life Meals for Kids, Turkey Trot, The Nutcracker, and Parade of Lights. In addition, thank you to everyone who comes to Tuesday morning meetings regularly, as this is the best time to receive important information regarding service projects and socials! Keep your eye out for upcoming events. I’m looking forward to a successful December! Yours in service, Page Trotter Hello, Key Clubbers! November has certainly been a busy month! But y'all are wonderful, so keeping up attendance at meetings, service projects, and socials haven't been a problem at all. I always enjoy meeting new faces at events. Thank you for all your generous contributions! Christmas is right around the corner, so stay on your toes - many charities and organizations will be needing our help. As always, thank you so, so very much to everyone taking pictures and writing articles for the newsletter. God bless you all. Yours truly, Sue Youn Oh

The Mission: We increase funds and awareness for local children's hospitals. The Vision: Together we save kids' lives

What is Children's Miracle Network? Children's Miracle Network raises funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America, which use the money where it's needed the most whether that's for research, medical equipment, or medical procedures. All donations stay in the community it is given in, ensuring that every dollar is helping local kids. Since 1983, the organization has raise more than $5 billion, most of it $1 at a time. Good Times, Jurassic Times by Andrea Rios

Marisa Thomas enjoys meeting a new furry creature

I hosted Jurassic World movie social on Friday the 13th of November. I'd hosted a social before: a swim party over the summer. It was a loads of fun, so I decided it was time to have another. The socials are a way for Key Club members to get to know each other outside of community service opportunities so that the members can connect in a more relaxed environment. It was also fun and livelier than some service projects. We ate pizza and hung out outside, even though it was freezing. Some members almost fell in the pool because they were running around, just having a good time! After we released some pent-up energy, we watched the thrilling and exciting movie. Afterwards, we all went to Bahama Bucks for a post-movie snow cone. The social was a fun bonding experience for all who came.

Nutcracker Frenzy by Moni Gunderson

On Saturday November 20, some Key Clubbers volunteered at the Nutcracker performance put on by Ballet Frontier. We worked either at "will call" (where tickets were given to those who had bought them in advance) or as ushers. Personally, I worked as an usher, directing people to their seats and handing out programs. It was a little difficult at first to find all the seats, but we quickly got the hang of it. I worked for about two hours, then got to watch the show with everyone. Page and I were working close to each other, so we found some seats in the front section to watch the ballet. It was my first time seeing it in many years, and the performance was absolutely amazing. We had the perfect seats, where we were able to see all the beautiful dancing and costumes. My favorite parts were probably the “Waltz of the Snowflakes” and the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.” In the “Waltz of the Snowflakes”, snow started falling on the stage. It made for a wonderful spectacle: the dancers danced gracefully as snow gently fell. I absolutely loved all the beautiful music, sets, and detailed costumes. The dancing was magnificent. I was in awe of the talent.

This was such a fun service project and I am very glad I volunteered. I would highly recommend this service opportunity to anyone: the show is stunning. It was the perfect way to start the holiday season.

Banking at the Food Bank by Inho Kim

“Volunteers are the heart and soul of Tarrant Area Food Bank. Without volunteers, it would not be possible to respond to hundreds of hungry North Texans every day.” – Tarrant Area Food Bank website Paschal Key Club answered the call on June 22nd and helped sort out the charity items given to the Tarrant Area Food Bank. One of the Food Bank polices states that every item must be checked by a person before distribution, so every volunteer, including the regulars and other service groups, took up plastic gloves and went to work. The Food Bank was extremely precise and meticulous, with sections for inedible products (such as shampoo and deodorant), drinks containing certain ingredients, canned foods, and many more, such as snacks and condiments. Our Key Club volunteers were at first like fish wading into uncharted waters, but there were regular volunteers who had worked for years to help us. As we began to get used to it, others did too, and we were able to quickly and effectively sort items. While working at the food bank, I learned that some products are still edible long after their expiration date. It made me wonder if the expiration date was created with food banks in mind in order to provide meals to the hungry. In one session, volunteers were asked to check the zucchinis stored in the warehouse. These zucchinis were not "fresh from the store" zucchinis, but involved ones which hadnow, been stored for post weeks. Surprisingly, Get and picturesmost from of the vegetables were fine with the exception of a few moldy ones that I the last DCON or Fall with cannot bear to describe in detail. This type of sorting could Rally only be done by volunteers, not machines, and through the process, we were able to provide #todcon2016! more food and satisfy the hunger of those who have fewer blessing than us.

The Spirit of the Parade by Ashlie Devenney

Jillian (left) and Ashlie (right) are ready to march!

The Parade of Lights absolutely my favorite service project! I have volunteered with the parade every year since freshman year and never get tire of it. I enjoy walking around before the parade starts and seeing all the different floats. My favorite float this year was (luckily enough) the one I walked beside, the minion float. I also really enjoy the people who all dress up as Elvis and ride around on their motorcycles. Everyone in charge of the parade are quite nice and seem to truly appreciate the help of the volunteers. The parade never fails to put me into the holiday spirit: a lot of the floats play Christmas music as they go throughout the parade. It was a lot of fun to wave to all the people on the sides of the road, watching the parade. I cannot wait to volunteer at the parade again for m next and final year, when I'll be a senior.
