INSTALLATION DINNER WILL HYRY

On May 2nd, we had our installation dinner. It was so much fun, especially because a cookie cake was present, along with pizza. I consumed a great sufficiency. With my belly filled, we moved on to business. The new officers were all inducted with a ceremony led by Thuy, our lieutenant governor for division 1 South. We all took photos of the incoming board as they posed in a line (at left). After congratulating everyone, we sat down to help our new president, vice president, secretary, editor, treasurer, web master, and parliamentarian to understand their duties on the board. Gathered in a circle, comfy on the couches, we were happy to see the enthusiasm that was present on their faces as they became official.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE We will still have some service projects throughout the summer so look out for announcements about them! This year is coming to a close but that doesn’t mean that the service has to stop. I love all of the members who come out and devote their time to service, even in the summer when I know everyone is busy. Thank you for taking time out of your day to better the community. Your President, Katie Kroll

SENIORS LOOK BACK MOLLIE MURRAY AND ABRAHIM SHARAF

My experience with Key Club has been nothing less than perfect. I got involved my sophomore year, and have been to the past three DCONs. I love getting to serve other people with my best friends and meeting other awesome people that give up their time and energy for the benefit of others. Key Club has opened my eyes to the compassion that so many people of our generation have for their communities and people around the world. It is empowering to see so many people working together to change the world. I am extremely thankful for the lessons that Key Club has taught me throughout high school. -Mollie Murray It’s so crazy to think that my time with Key Club is coming to an end. I remember when I first started with the club a fresh-faced; nary a hair in sight (even though I liked to think that maybe there was a little hair right there above my lips) 13 year-old. I had never thought about doing service, but one of the people I admired and respected the most, SG, convinced me to come and give one meeting a shot. I was hooked. The enthusiasm, the happiness, and the joviality of the meeting all combined to instill the spirit of service in my heart. From Braille Bibles to manning water stations at local runs, it felt good to see the difference that our great club was making in the lives of the people of Fort Worth. My spirit of service grew to become a love of service, and in the end I began to do things not just out of a sense of altruism, or a need to build my resume, but out of a selfish part of me that loved having someone say thank you, or seeing a little boys face light up when you hand him basic necessities such as shoes and school uniforms. All things said and done, my experience with Key Club has been nothing but spectacular. I’ve made some of my very best friends in this organization, and I will always look back fondly on the memories made. -Abrahim Sharaf

CYSTIC FIBROSIS RUN RACHEL WHEELER

Volunteering at the Great Strides Cystic Fibrosis Walk was a great experience. It was so cool that they let us hold the ribbon that began the walk! Passing out hot dogs was fun too. All the walkers were so happy after raising such a large amount of money for their cause. I can’t wait to help out next year!

“If you want to be an official Key Club member, hit me up with $15.”

SOCIALS

Socials are a great way to get to know your fellow Key Clubbers! Have an idea for one? Contact a member of the board!

PRESIDENT COUNCIL MEETING (PCM) ABBEY JACKSON

This Friday, I went to the first President Council Meeting of the year at Prima’s Pasta and Pizza with Sarika, Page, Moni, and Mrs. Naff. None of us had been to a PCM meeting before and we all ended up having a lot of fun! I really enjoyed talking with Thuy, our lieutenant governor, and Key Club members from other schools. Some were there to get inducted into office, but most of us were there to just convene with other Key Clubbers and be informed about upcoming events and district news. It was so fun to talk with people from across the district and eat yummy Italian food. I’m looking forward to the next PCM!

A VISIT TO THE KIWANIS MEETING AMRITHA GOURISANKAR

Key Club is an organization for high school students to do community service, but is also part of a much bigger group– what we like to refer to as the “K-Family.” As such, the “parents” of the K-Family are the Kiwanis, and after my four years with this club, I can say that the Fort Worth Kiwanis truly fulfill their motto of “Serving the children of the world” in this capacity, taking care of our Key Club’s needs and supporting us in each and every endeavor. On May 6th, some of the new and old board members of our club, as well as our advisors, attended a meeting of the Fort Worth Kiwanis to talk to them about our year, and thank them for all of their help. After dinner, we presented our 1st place-winning scrapbook to them and our outgoing president, Aashna, talked about her experiences over her past term. This was followed by our incoming president, Katie, sharing about her ideas for the new year. Finally the Kiwanis members updated us on their upcoming events, passed around the “brag bag,” and generously gave money towards our future conventions and events. Overall, it was a lot of fun to join these other members of our K-Family, share our experiences with service, and get some ideas for the future.
