BAND OF ROSES PAGE TROTTER

The Band of Roses is a giant tailgate party complete with college football watching and country music listening. Sponsored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, this event welcomed all to River Ranch at the historic Fort Worth Stock Yards for fun-filled activities and great food. Paschal Key Club assisted with the silent auction this year, taking names for bidding and arranging baskets and packages. Lights strung above our heads, it was a cool atmosphere to volunteer in and make sure everyone got what they needed. This project was really fun, yet also informational. We learned how to work an auction and we also learned a little about cystic fibrosis and the foundation that keeps it known.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE With the holiday season upon us, we have many great service opportunities in our community. I’m so happy that we have lots of awesome active members who are always at meetings and events. I’m excited to see how much participation we can get in December with our bell-ringing for the Salvation Army, which is always a favorite among club members. We also have our Key Leader weekend coming up and we have many Key Clubbers attending that fun-filled experience of leadership building and bonding. I hope everyone has an amazing holiday season filled with service! Your president, Katie Kroll

TURKEY TROT RUN DIEGO BAEZA

On Thanksgiving Day, from 7-10:30AM, I volunteered at Fort Worth’s own Turkey Trot run. With several others, I helped distribute water to the runners and helped clean up after the event was over. I was glad to know that the money raised by the race would go towards the scholarship/youth program at the Westside YMCA and I felt that the work I was doing at this charitable activity was worth my time. Overall, it was a great experience and I hope Key Club continues to give back to the community, providing the opportunity for people like myself to partake in volunteering often.

MOBIL FOOD PANTRY JILLIAN DAUGHERTY

I went to the Mobil Food Pantry for the first time this past Saturday and I enjoyed it. We set up two lines of lots of different food like blueberries, cranberry juice, carrots, cabbage, etc. Each person passed out an item, refilled the items on the table, or helped people carry their things. My job was simple, passing out the blueberries. There were so many volunteers there to assist in the project, enough to take breaks in the warm indoors while others worked and vice versa. Having the opportunity to work directly with the receiving end of the food was an amazing experience and allowed me to more fully understand the purpose of the Mobil Food Pantry.

PARADE OF LIGHTS ABBEY JACKSON

Parade of Lights was so much fun. Along with many other Key Clubbers, I had the opportunity to assist in the event. As a marshal, I walked in the parade with a sign, leading my assigned float. People lined the streets and waved excitedly as each group passed by. Some dance companies were involved, with kids in costume doing impressive routines. Other floats included some small businesses, religious groups, and even Santa. Everyone was so happy to be there and see the incredible show of

lights and extravagant dĂŠcor. Although we were working, we still were able to capture all the beauty of the show. The Parade of Lights has such a great impact on Fort Worth, being annual for years and serving as a tradition for many families. It's a great opportunity to get service hours, because you get to be a part of the parade and see all the effort that goes into putting the event together. It really got me in the Christmas spirit!

MORE INFORMATION WHAT IS KEY CLUB?

DISTRICT CONVENTION

Key Club is an international organization with a mission to serve others. By being a part of Key Club at Paschal, you are given the opportunity to participate in service projects with friends and make a difference in your community. What could be better than helping others while having fun?

Sophomore Moni Gunderson revisits DCON from her Freshman year, “DCON was an action-packed, incredibly fun, unforgettable weekend experience. I had so much fun learning more about Key Club and meeting new people. I am so happy that I went and I am planning on going every year.” It’s never too early to think about DCON, which occurs around the beginning of April. Ask someone who has been about it, and start getting excited for 2014 District Convention!
