MCLEAN MIDDLE SCHOOL 5K CHRISTIAN SAUCEDO

The McLean Mad Hatter is an annual event held at McLean Middle School, open to all students and faculty. This year’s Mad Hatter was a huge success. In total there were around 400 people who ran or walked the 5K, with prizes given out to runners who finished in the top three times. The fastest time was 17 minutes– talk about incredible! Our job as a club was to direct cars and run water stations throughout the course. Going beyond expectations, however, we proceeded to cheer on the participants as they flew by. A fun and fulfilling experience, we were then able to see the last runners cross the finish line, as we joined the other volunteers at the Smoothie King stand. Overall, the McLean Mad Hatter had a great outcome and I, along with other Key Club volunteers, are glad to have helped.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE This had been a great month of service with a lot of our new members getting out there and serving the community. I am so happy that we are having large numbers of freshmen joining our club because they are the ones who will keep it going. It’s also really nice to see so many people fired up about service. I would like to congratulate our treasurer for getting our dues in before the early bird date and I would also like to thank the members for being so prompt about turning in their dues. Now that the holiday season is upon us, I know we will have numerous service projects to help out with. Let’s have another great month of service! Your president, Katie Kroll

SHOW YOUR SPIRIT! ELIZABETH ESTES The Lily B Clayton night was lots of fun! I passed out popcorn to all of the little kids and their families. All of the kids were sweet and adorable, and there were lots of them. Even though the fair had been moved inside because of the weather, it was still a huge success. The kids enjoyed the face painting, the food, the movie, and the confetti eggs. The staff was also really nice and let us have the leftover popcorn and hot dogs. Also I worked with people from the Hispanic

Society and they were really fun to talk to and get to know. So overall, the Lily B Spirit Night was a great night to serve the little kids and also to make new friends from other clubs. The only thing that could have been better was the attendance from the Key Club members. I don’t know exactly how many Key Clubbers showed up, but I think there should have been more.

STREAMS AND VALLEYS RUN CHLOE UNDERWOOD

Our Key Club had the opportunity to serve the community by cheering on the runners of the Streams and Valleys run. We got to hand out water and encourage the participants, including some of Paschal’s very own teachers, to keep going. In addition, at the after party, we were able to try many different types of foods. With a variety of things to do, the Streams and Valleys run is probably my favorite because it is always so much fun to help out at and serve as an effective team.

“If you want to be an official Key Club member, hit me up with $15.”

BUILD THOSE HABITATS SARIKA SABNIS

Building houses and partaking in home improvement has been one of my favorite hobbies ever since I was young. Building with my dad, bonding, and being proud of something we created together was the best feeling. And this weekend I got to relive those feelings at the Habitat for Humanity house-building bonanza! The turn out from Paschal was astoundingly wonderful, which made the experience that much more fun. The group I was in put up panels along the sides of the roof – we got to use the power cutters, drills, and the teamwork involved in lifting those panels and tacking them on really brought me closer to Jacob Rico and Deric Richardson. I was relatively well acquainted to them before we had to put our heads together this weekend, but this experience allowed me to get to know them even more! And not to mention the uplifting feeling we all received after the build – beyond awesome. Overall it was a wondrous weekend!

MORE INFORMATION WHAT IS KEY CLUB?

DISTRICT CONVENTION

Key Club is an international organization with a mission to serve others. By being a part of Key Club at Paschal, you are given the opportunity to participate in service projects with friends and make a difference in your community. What could be better than helping others while having fun?

District Convention (DCON) is an event for the Texas– Oklahoma District to gather and learn more about Key Club, share experiences from the past year, and make more memories. From forums to banquets to caucuses and voting, DCON is an unforgettable experience. Sophomore Moni Gunderson revisits DCON from her Freshman year, “DCON was an action-packed, incredibly fun, unforgettable weekend experience. I had so much fun learning more about Key Club and meeting new people. I am so happy that I went and I am planning on going every year.” It’s never too early to think about DCON, which occurs around the beginning of April. Ask someone who has been about it, and start getting excited for 2014 District Convention!
