KIWANIS INSTALLATION DINNER JAKE MARTINEZ

The Kiwanis Installation dinner was a truly magnificent experience. The atmosphere, the food, the people - everything was fantastic.

Throughout the evening I was lucky enough to listen to some of the most hard-working and kind individuals. They gave speeches and enlightened me and my fellow Key Clubbers on not only the purpose of Kiwanis International, but what it means to be a person - a Human - and how to live life to the fullest whilst maintaining a positive outlook. I look forward to the next time I'm able to spend my dinner with such inspirational people.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE We’ve had a great start to the school year with many new members motivated to serve others. With a drastic increase in membership, we have been able to put more events out there for our club and have had more members at each event which is awesome. I hope to keep having this level of attendance throughout the year and that each member will bring a friend so our club can grow to bigger and better heights. Go Key Club! Your President, Katie Kroll

MY FIRST BRAILLE WENT A LITTLE LIKE THIS... JILLIAN DAUGHERTY

I have been going to Braille for the past few weeks and I like it very much. I have fun while I'm there, and don't really notice I am doing work. Nobody really gets bored because there is always something to do. The hour goes by fast and next thing I know we are on our way back to Paschal!

FALL RALLY 2013 ASHLIE DEVENNEY

This year’s Fall Rally was absolutely amazing! We were able to hear the theme for District Convention and find out more about the program itself. It was so nice to meet other Key Club members who were from different schools. It was really an eye-opener to how important Key Club is to the community. Afterwards, we were able to hang out at the amusement park and meet other people involved in key club. I am so glad I joined this club and I cannot wait until District Convention!

“If you want to be an official Key Club member, hit me up with $15.”

SOCIALS

Socials are a great way to get to know your fellow Key Clubbers! Have an idea for one? Contact a member of the board!

COWTOWN CLASSIC BIKE RACE BEN FILLMORE

Having done a good amount of bike races in the past, I was very interested to see the other side of a rest stop. Fortunately we had a significant amount of volunteers, allowing half to be on cheer duty and the rest working the actual rest stop. The race started fairly abruptly. A group of two went away from the peloton and passed by us, shortly after was the breakaway, and then the main group. For roughly forty five minutes, cyclists flew by as we shouted terms fortification, hoping to inspire confidence amongst them. After the cyclist passed there was a two to three hour break. It was fairly tedious; we sat around, restocked, cleaned and used the rest stop for ourselves. The excitement returned when the same two riders went flying by. It was pretty inspirational. They went out early and maintained it through the whole race, and this is a fairly improbable feat. Essentially the same group came by soon after, the only exception being the annexation of the breakaway by the peloton. This was a pretty interesting learning experience; I hope to do more rest stop gigs like this one in the future.

MORE INFORMATION WHAT IS KEY CLUB?

DISTRICT CONVENTION

Key Club is an international organization with a mission to serve others. By being a part of Key Club at Paschal, you are given the opportunity to participate in service projects with friends and make a difference in your community. What could be better than helping others while having fun?

District Convention (DCON) is an event for the Texas– Oklahoma District to gather and learn more about Key Club, share experiences from the past year, and make more memories. From forums to banquets to caucuses and voting, DCON is an unforgettable experience. Sophomore Moni Gunderson revisits DCON from her Freshman year, “DCON was an action-packed, incredibly fun, unforgettable weekend experience. I had so much fun learning more about Key Club and meeting new people. I am so happy that I went and I am planning on going every year.” It’s never too early to think about DCON, which occurs around the beginning of April. Ask someone who has been about it, and start getting excited for 2014 District Convention!

WHAT IS KIWANIS? Designed for adults, Kiwanis is an organization made up of service leaders in communities all over the world. With several goals in mind, Kiwanis partners with other organizations to provide help to those in need. Go to http://www.kiwanis.org/kiwanis/aboutkiwanis to learn more about the club. Kiwanis in Fort Worth helps support us in our endeavors, both financially and verbally. Be sure to attend one of their meetings on the first and third Mondays of each month. More info can be found in our meeting agendas!

MAJOR EMPHASIS PROGRAM The Major Emphasis Program we have chosen at Paschal is “It’s Not Okay,” a program with a goal to end bullying. Pairing with our school’s Link Crew, we have worked to ensure that everyone knows the true meaning of It’s Not Okay.
