MOVIE NIGHT MANIA ZANE DYER When I first arrived at the Key Club movie night, I was relieved just to have arrived in one piece after braving the icy roads to get there. I was the fourth person to arrive, and the only upperclassman, so I felt a bit out of place at first. The feeling went away quickly as I got to know everyone a little better. The host (Page) and her family made me feel very welcome, and we passed the time waiting for the other guests to arrive by watching the Olympics. Once everyone had arrived, we retired to the media room to debate what movie we would watch. After a long and lively debate, we settled on Sky High. Everyone enjoyed the movie, and when it was over we had devoured the better part of three enormous bowls of popcorn. We carried some of the leftovers back downstairs to the kitchen. When everyone went back up, I stayed downstairs to thank the host’s parents for having us
and was quickly pinned to the couch by their large dog who felt that she hadn’t received enough attention so far that evening. Later, when most of the guests had left, I stuck around to help get everything cleaned up and presentable again. All in all, it was a lot of fun, and I absolutely can’t wait for the next one!
PRESIDENT’S NOTE This month we held our annual Key Club bake sale to help raise money for our club to go to DCON. We made around $350 this year and we are so proud of that. Many Key Clubbers took time out of their school day to volunteer and help. February is also the month the Cowtown Marathon is held in Fort Worth and we always work a water stop with our Kiwanis Club. The Cowtown is one of my favorite events. As I have gone since my freshman year, it was kind of sad volunteering for the last time as a Key Clubber. We’ve had a nice group going to Braille every week and a lot of new people who have never been before that are loving it and wanting to go to more Key Club events. Next month we have spring break but I’m sure we can still have a month full of service!
Your President, Katie Kroll

FEELIN’ 22 AT MILE 22 KYMILLE BROWN On an early Sunday morning in February, runners everywhere gathered to race in the Cowtown Marathon series. While running up to 31 miles, participants needed an easy refuel and a little enthusiasm to help them finish. At mile 22, outside Colonial Country Club, Key Clubbers handed out cups of water and Poweraid to a steady flow of runners. Many runners were very appreciative of our help which made our job that much more enjoyable. The Kiwanis members there were so helpful, ensuring we knew how to mix the Poweraid and were able to quickly refill cups as the majority of runners passed. They even brought us pizza for lunch! Although we had just enough volunteers, the Kiwanis Club would like for us to have more Key Clubbers in the future that are able to stay and help clean up. I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for the Cowtown and would highly suggest this event to anyone who loves an upbeat atmosphere!

BAKE IT OR BREAK IT NAOMI SALAS
Being Valentine’s Day, PHS had the great idea to have a bake sale for Key Club, helping to raise money for DCON. This fundraiser was always our most successful annual event, and like last year, I volunteered a few of my class periods to contribute. It was an all-day thing and we sold everything from donuts to fruit snacks! I loved getting to meet new people and persuading them to buy something for a great cause! I dedicated my day to this and I absolutely enjoyed it, for the
second time! Even some of the teachers helped to give us business by bringing their own classes down in their small time period! It went very well and definitely made an impact on our funds. Now we can't wait for this year’s 2014 DCON experience!
“If you want to be an official Key Club member, hit me up with $15.”

BRAILLE MOVES US SUE YOUN OH, SARIKA SABNIS & TYLER GREENE
Braille Bibles is always a great time to get together with friends after school and work together to serve others. We work in an assembly line to quickly produce the book of Psalms. The Psalms have always been a kind of marvel to me. It's filled with praise, adoration, and love for God, even when situations are not so perfect. How David managed to remain faithful and hopeful in God is beyond me, and it sparks my admiration, even today. I think it's an amazing honor to be able to put together a part of the Bible so that those without sight have the opportunity to read God's word and be encouraged, comforted, advised, or whatever else speaks through the Bible to the reader. It brings me joy whenever I imagine our Braille Bibles, which we put together, being put into the waiting hands of those that need them. I sometimes wish that we really could meet with those that receive the Bibles, to connect with them and see how our work impacts the lives of others. Aside from the beauty of the work that we produce, I believe that the simple act of meeting with other people that have the same heartless attitude is beneficial to everybody who participates in the fellowship, and not just those that gain our end product. -Sue Youn Oh
I love to help the blind by making the Braille bibles that aid them on their journey in faith. Blindness shouldn’t hinder you form an opportunity to encounter Jesus and His teachings. I think that Braille Bibles are a good way to spread the gospel. I also really like the service hours, but I think that the blind really need to be able to have Jesus in their lives because he healed the blind, and he loves everyone on Earth. Making these Bibles allows everyone in the club to bond, chat about our day, and most of all, understand the importance of helping those less fortunate than us. That is one of the things Tyler and I love the most about going to Braille, and being in Key Club in general. We learn how to be selfless, accepting, and caring for our environment and community. -Sarika Sabnis and Tyler Greene
