RAMP BUILD EILEEN MADRIGAL
The ramp build was really fun. The person in charge was a sweet lady who was extremely good with tools; she had us all surprised. To show the variety of volunteers, there were a couple of engineers, a lawyer, and an accountant there. Most of the group was made up of college students, along with a couple of older people. Despite some age gaps, we were able to work as a
team for a common cause: the ramp project. Members from our Key Club worked diligently in whatever area we were needed. It’s a good hands-on project that I would recommend for the future. It took us a couple of hours to finish but in the end, we were all satisfied with the product that our service created.
PRESIDENT’S NOTE This coming month we get to hold our Key Club Valentine’s bake sale to help raise money for DCON. It is always very fun and we have many Key Clubbers volunteer to work time slots during the day. January was a bit of a slow month for us but February holds a lot of new service projects. We are also going to start doing announcements to promote our club in the hopes of gaining new members. Don’t be afraid to bring your friends to meetings! Your president, Katie Kroll

REDUCE, REUSE... JAKE MARTINEZ
Recycling Club is a great outlet for service because it helps not only the school, but the environment. Every Thursday after school, Paschal’s Recycling Club meets and then breaks to gather paper from bins all throughout the classrooms It’s nice to see that you’re helping a teacher out, and you even get a chance to see some of your favorite past teachers en route. The process is easy to do, and is something to look forward to participating in each week. It’s a fun time to hang out with friends who share your passion for service and enthusiasm for keeping the school clean and environmentally friendly.

WHAT IS DCON? RACHEL WHEELER Last year I went to my first Key Club convention ever, DCON, and I can honestly say it was one of the best times of my life! The weekend started out with an exciting train ride to Dallas. Next, we checked into the Sheraton, a gorgeous hotel downtown. After we were all settled in, we took a trip to the ballroom, where the festivities began. There were so many welcoming groups and booths, it was so fun! Over the next few days, we attended several meetings about many topics, such as ways we can improve our club, how to become more involved in our community, and even fun things like icebreaker meetings, zumba classes, and more. During our last night in Dallas, we had an awesome dance in the ballroom, and it was definitely the most fun part of the weekend. All in all, seeing so many clubs from the Texas/Oklahoma area made me feel so proud to be part of such an amazing group, and if you are able to, I highly recommend attending DCON 2014!

KEY LEADER ABBEY JACKSON AND KATIE KROLL
The Key Leader weekend was a really inspiring experience. It was at a beautiful camp in Cedar Hill and lasted two days. As a group, we did fun leadership workshops and had a campfire. It was really neat, because there were Key Clubs from other schools and even people that aren't in Key Club. I got to meet so many nice people. Overall, it was a great weekend. —Abbey Jackson Key Leader was an awesome retreat that our Vice President Abbey and I went to. It was held at a camp ground in Cedar Hill, TX and it was beautiful and we had amazing weather. Two of our advisors came with us and I really enjoyed getting to know them more. We learned a lot of information about being a good leader and how we can harness the strength of our members. The leader of the retreat is one of the few people trained by Kiwanis International and she came all the way from Indianapolis. She lead us through many group discussions and breakout sessions with small groups we called “Neighborhoods.” The program they put together for us was very informative and entertaining at the same time. I also met some amazing people that I’m excited to see again at DCON and who I keep in contact with now. The last night of the camp we had a huge bonfire with all the kids and all the sponsors and it was a great end to the weekend. Next year I hope we can have at least five members from our club go because I truly believe having good leadership throughout the club helps to make the club that much better. —Katie Kroll
