MATH COUNTS Being able to grade the tests at the 2013 Math Counts competition was a great experience. Along with three other members, we arrived at TCU early in the morning and were greeted with lots of food. Once we began, we were taken through a series of guidelines to grade the tests as they arrived from the testing room. We got to sit and work with a partner so it was fun being able to have someone else to talk to. It was overall pretty laid back and had a bit of waiting time due to the fact that we had to wait for the contestants to finish the rounds. After completing the grading we were given a pass to indulge in the countless amount of food in the TCU cafeteria and we basically spent more time eating than actually grading. It was a lot of fun and I’d definitely do it again next year. ~ Liliana Diaz, Senior

The Enzyme of Key Club BY MR. FINAGELLY The enzyme is a catalyst It has func ons that I cannot even begin to list Yet in a gist, it plays a vital role in our survival One of the major features would be that it has no rival In its departure and arrival And has a lock and key mechanism And this line is just to maintain the rhythm The enzyme is a catalyst that is opened by a key We are that small metal instrument Chipped and wedged to ďŹ t the locks to per say. What is DCON, you ask? Well, from a 2- me a5endee’s perspec ve, it’s only one of the best weekends ever. If that isn’t enough to en ce you to a5end however, here are the details: It is a fun-filled weekend at the Sheraton Hotel in Dallas where you will have the opportunity to meet 1500+ Key Clubbers from across Texas-Oklahoma. There will be inspira onal speakers, a talent show, many compe ons such as quiz bowl and Just Dance, forums to teach leadership skills and more about serving in Key Club, and more. This year’s theme is “Haunted House” and the stage and hotel rooms will be decorated accordingly! Overall, it is a great way to learn more about the organiza on and service (especially for you underclassmen!) while celebra ng the great year that has passed and geDng excited for the upcoming one! Get enough hours with our club so you can be sure to a5end! You really don’t want to miss it!

THE KEY CLUB COLORS Like any other flag or symbol of a country or organization, Key Club ‘s colors also symbolize something. The colors white, blue, and gold each symbolize a key character that should be in each club and member. The blue stands for Unwavering Character. The white symbolizes purity, and the gold symbolizes service (because service is golden!!). These colors should be something that each member should work to have since it’s what makes up the club.

KEY CLUB FOUNDING Ever wondered when, where, and why Key Club was founded? Key Club was founded in 1925 in Sacramento, California by two Kiwanis members, Albert C. Olney and Frank C. Vincent. It was to start a junior service organization in high school that would imitate Kiwanis. The Club was composed of Key Boys who wished to serve their school and community in any way possible, thus it was dubbed Key Club. Soon, it became an international club. Today, Key Club has expanded to 250,000 members in 30 countries. GO SERVICE!!!

RECYCLING CLUB Every Thursday in Room 165 in R. L Paschal High School is Recycling Club. They are responsible for recycling the paper and other items that are in the classrooms and staffrooms. Although this process sounds very long, it actually isn’t. It usually takes around 20-40 minutes depending on the number of people. This activity is weekly and an enjoyable experience so come to recycling!!
