I attended the Lily & Clayton family Spirit Night, a time for students and their families to support their school and play fun games! I decided to sign up for face painting, a favorite activity of mine. While at this station, I met a couple of new girls from Paschal and a lot of cheerful children. This event was a good experience for me because it was so much fun, and I learned that making conversation with kids and making them feel important is nice for them.

KEY CLUB PLEDGE Don't know the Key Club pledge? No worries. Just follow along below: I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and to combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

KEY CLUB MISSION Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.

First time in Key Club It’s my first year in Key Club. I have been to a few events and they’ve been a lot of fun. My favorite event so far would have to be the McLean 5k. I had to stand on a corner in the rain alone but I got to see a lot of new students and my old teachers. It was a lot of fun. After the event, I got to talk to all the sponsors of the 5k. By the time it was time to go home, I was ready to sign up for my next event.

Key Club Dues and Sales Haven’t paid your dues? They’re $15 and they go to Ryan Yanney. Also, there are T-shirts for sale for $10. Get them in Mr. Bretthauer’s room during meetings or lunch or after School.

Elections are coming up. Who are you hoping to win?

Key Club Officer Responsibilities Although the members of Key Club make up the club itself, it is important that the Officers do their jobs accordingly to support and lead the club. For example, the President is the center for the club and its his/her job to lead meetings and make the agendas for the members. The Vice President is the backup for the meeting lead if the President is absent and should try to support the President. The Secretary is the one that makes monthly reports and sends them to the district. The Treasurer is the one who is in charge of the club’s funding and make fund raisers. The Editor (in our club) makes Newsletters and Is in charge of several committees. Finally,

the group of officers known as member at large is responsible for hosting some events throughout the year. All these positions are important and should be treated accordingly.

District Convention District Convention is the main Key Club event held at the end of the year. You get to miss school but the fun only starts there. In Paschal, we ride a train that takes us to the hotel where the event will be hosted. Each room consists of four people and during that time, you have fun with other Key Clubbers in a variety of activities and events. You can attend a vast number of meetings to better your club, learn more about Key Club, and most importantly, have fun. This year’s theme is a Haunted House so be there.

The Poetry Column The fierce, menacing wind blew And the toes’ of the noble Key Clubbers turned blue Yet the gusts did not have a clue As to what the volunteers spew From their hair flew scents of shampoo Those precious cents sent for the bamboo From which the substance was brewed Soon the winds subdued and withdrew For it could not undo Nor outdo The Trinity 5K water crew The fiery flames of service grew And finally the wind said “adieu”
