THE SHELTER STRUCTURE ..........................................................

PROJECT ABSTRACT The Shelter Structure is named based on its purpose as a roof shading device, it effectively shelters the users from varying sunlight orientation. It acts as a shield from the heat and glare of the sunlight while still providing tolerable natural sunlight to the users. In conclusion, it serves as protection from weather and acts as a light structure public and recreational activities for amphitheatre at UiTM (FSPU) SITE SETTINGS Designed as a ‘smart campus’, the campus will have the most modern environment suitable to foster in new generation of technology savvy students and tutors. This emphasis on technology has allowed the many advanced facilities such as a move will equipped computer lab and full intergrated security system to be developed.

CONCEPTUAL IDEA The concept is based on the movement of waving to achieve optimum lighting conditions for the amphitheatre of FSPU in UITM Puncak Alam. We are proposing a shelters that takes into account the varying angles of sunlight onto the amphitheatre by using a regulating membrane that will either permit of restrict light based on these factors. This design will allow shade to hit optimally at the spaces where users are sitting throughout the day while still allowing wind from the lake to be tunnel and flow through into the structure effectively creating an area that is shaded and cool. As a final component to the design that adds to the parametric definition, a genetic algorithm was implemented to iterate between all possible design solutions and determine while shelters provide the most natural sunlight without compromising the comfort of the users RHINO + GRASSHOPPER Programs are created by dragging components onto a canvas. The outputs to these components are then connected to the inputs of subsequent components. Grasshopper is primarily used to build generative algorithms, such as for generative art. DESIGN PROCESS Attractor Curve This definition takes any given surface and divides it into a given number of cells, each of which recieves a circle with variable radius. An attractor curve is used to drive this radius by calculating the distance from each given subdivided panel to its corresponding closest point along the attractor curve. The result is a field of circles with a fall-off gradient in size. A program in the Grasshopper GUI
