THE BEST WAY TO

Experience

Weddings Anna Erickson, associate director of catering for PGA National Resort & Spa, recently gave a soon-to-be bride a tour of the property. The potential client’s response “summed it up perfectly,” Erickson recalls. “She said, ‘I already feel like I’m on vacation.’ That’s the feeling you get when you walk through our doors.” The same could be said for countless properties in The Palm Beaches—the resorts, hotels, gardens, parks, banquet halls, museums, and even zoos and polo grounds that regularly provide brides, grooms and newlyweds with unforgettable celebrations. The idyllic cities, towns, and entertainment districts in The Palm Beaches bring together urban and suburban regions framed by natural waterways, lakes, the Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. These are all parts of our identity and brand, as represented in our Palmscape logo on this page. It’s no surprise that for Elizabeth Hollman, president of the Palm Beach chapter of the National Association of Wedding Professionals, The Palm Beaches are an easy sell. “First and foremost, our weather makes The Palm Beaches a unique destination for weddings,” she says. “We have a yearlong season available. We have a good mix of sun and fun and beaches and nightlife, and we have a lot of cultural things, and things for the kids. Add in the extensive list of venues: You can go outside the box of your typical wedding, whether you’re a rustic bride or a beach ride, or you prefer the fancy ballroom style.” Furthermore, Hollman adds, “We have a large amount of [wedding providers] that have been doing this for 10 to 30 years in the same area. Even though we have an extensive amount of vendors, the professionals all know each other and have probably worked with each other.”

The Tux Shop

16

Susan Damon, the owner of The Tux Shop, has been clothing the sharply dressed man for more than 30 years. Her store purports to be the only full-service tuxedo shop in Florida—meaning a man can walk in, try on a number of different looks, and leave with the tuxedo of his (or his fiancée’s) dreams. Recognized as “the bridal shop for grooms,” The Tux Shop features dozens of affordable tuxes for sale or rent in its deceptively compact Palm Beach Gardens store. “Wherever the wedding location is, that’s where the tuxedo should be serviced. Grooms need somebody locally to service that wedding there, because a button’s going to fall off, they’re going to put their foot through a hem, something’s going to need to be assisted. And recovery is key.” “Fit is important. You don’t have to wear a tux as it comes off the hanger anymore, even if it’s a designer label. Your

physical shape is going to be different than the designer who created that outfit. You need it to fit properly.” “Old school is trending. We even have a tuxedo that we named The Frank, after Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. We can all relate to the Rat Pack era, when the greats used to wear tuxedos. We now are going back to that look. Now that casual Friday has become casual all week, the importance of getting dressed up is even greater. James Bond is another character who helps the men’s clothing world. Because that character is popular and relevant, it follows suit—pardon the pun—with men’s clothing.” “Other than black, we are seeing navy blues, charcoal greys and fun dinner jackets as a second coat, for a groom to change into for a reception. Because when they are doing something a bit more formal, then that reception is more of a party aspect, and the bride is often changing into something else too.”

Mariolka’s Bridal 561.735.8633 mariolkasbridal.com

From her expansive Boynton Beach boutique, Mariolka Olejniczak has been dressing Palm Beach brides for more than 15 years. Considering that each bride tries on approximately 20 dresses before finding “the one,” that adds up to a lot of hopeful gazes into the full-length mirrors. With more than 1,000 gowns available, Olejniczak ensures that her customers never run out of options. Charlotte Fields, a wedding planner who partners with Olejniczak, discusses trending styles, favorite color shades and more. “In this area, although ball gowns are making a comeback—we had seen them go out of style for a little bit—you’re going to see a lot more form-fitted silhouettes, whether it’s a ‘fit and flare’ dress or a sheath-style gown. ‘Fit and flares’ are fitted at least through the hip area and then expand. A sheath gown is a column-style dress where it’s more of an evening gown. It has a nice train, but it’s still form-fitting.” “Brides don’t want white gowns. They want ivory or champagne, or blush. A couple years ago, we saw a lot of pale blue, but not anymore.” “A lot of brides try to make the dress fit the venue. We’ve had brides who have selected satin ball gowns and got married on the sand. We try to encourage them to get what they want, as opposed to making it fit a certain look.” “A lot of times, brides are unaware of what dresses cost, and why they cost so much and how much time goes into each wedding gown. They say, ‘I can’t believe I’m spending this much money for one day.’ But the biggest thing to think about is that it’s not one day. You have your wedding pictures out and up, and it’s a memory that gets passed down to your children and their children. And the bride is in 95 percent of all the wedding photos.”

Lynn Hernandez of Riviera Beach has been photographing weddings for nearly 20 years. But that doesn’t stop the mother of two from tearing up, alongside fellow wedding guests caught in the moment, when the nuptials call for it. Known for the warmth of her images and her attention to detail, Hernandez snaps up to 100 photos an hour each wedding. Her favorite ceremonies are destination weddings in The Palm Beaches, which she prizes for their laid-back charm. “The most important thing couples request is to tell their story. I go into every wedding thinking, These two people are individuals, they have their own love story. How am I going to tell it?” “When I first get there, I feel like a director, because I’m talking to the maid of honor and asking her, ‘Could you please

gather me the ring, the veils, the stationary, the dress?’ I normally have only 20 minutes to get those shots when I arrive, before the bride starts to get ready. Then during the ceremony, the first dance and the rest of the time, I’m just capturing what’s happening. Then when it’s time for the bride and groom shots, I’m curating the scene.” “I like the shots when they’re completely relaxed—when the ceremony is over, and I say, ‘Let’s go have some fun. Let’s run around, let’s pick her up, let’s have a good time.’” “The most satisfying part is knowing that I was chosen to document their love story and be trusted with an heirloom. That makes it more special than anything else—being able to be there for them, and knowing that they’re starting their lives with their best friend.”

It’s been six years since Michael Wright turned his weekend photography hobby into a full-time career. Now, he says, “I no longer have a job. I have a calling that allows me to create works of art that bring joy and happiness to others.” As he explains, that joy and happiness are most contagious during his myriad wedding shoots. “To be a good wedding photographer, there’s the technical side, where you have to know what makes good light and good composition. Then you have to be a people person. You’re going to be around for everything, and there will be parts of the day where people look to you to answer questions, because you’ve seen it done so many times. They may turn to you and say, ‘What do you think, Michael? What do we normally do here?’” “As far as trends, the new rule is that there are no rules. Whether you’re more into the

rustic theme and you want to be out on a field with dandelions and mason jars, or if you’re a more urban, sophisticated couple that’s getting married at a fancy hotel, and your dress looks like it’s something out of a fashion magazine, you’ll find someone to shoot that.” “The thing I enjoy the most about shooting weddings is that every week it’s a different love story, a different venue, a different couple, a different feel to it. I’m lucky to be here in South Florida, where we have such a unique mix of people, cultures, traditions and venues.” “Just this year alone, I’ve done a Vietnamese tea ceremony and an hora loca wedding (Spanish for “crazy hour”), where they had a performer on stilts and dancing girls with feathers. I’ve done Jewish weddings, Muslim weddings, beach weddings. I get to see that we’re all the same: It’s all about family, and people coming together sharing their love.”

One of The Palm Beaches’ most indemand caterers, this stylish equestrian parlayed his passions for food and horse sport into a thriving business entering its 12th year. Menitoff, a graduate of the Florida Culinary Institute, established his business as one of only two caterers of Wellington’s Winter Equestrian Festival. Expanding into destination weddings has allowed his flair for dramatic culinary events to reach new and varied audiences. “Culinary theatrics are one of the things that sets our company apart. We custommake a water buffet. It’s a 16-foot river, and we have little boats that float by, and chefs make tapas dishes and put them on the boats. We have a chef interactive element while they’re passing hors d’oeuvres: We have a pistachio-marshmallow marinated lamb and minted plum skewer sticking out

of a pineapple. Servers will walk around with that and a crème brûlée torch, and they’ll torch it. We call it an adult s’more.” “A cornerstone of our philosophy is that people should come into a room and see the food stations, and that should almost be enough. They should almost not have to touch the food. They should say, ‘Wow, that’s a work of art.’” “Most people will have one wedding in their lives, and you’ve got a four-hour period to execute years of dreaming and planning. Everybody puts in double overtime in terms of putting everything together. There are times when you think, why am I doing this? And at the end of every wedding, when you see the looks on the brides’ and grooms’ faces, and the mothers are hugging you and crying, it makes it all worthwhile.”

Brittani Szczecina

Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa 561.340.1738 Brittani Szczecina knows a thing or three about high-profile desserts. In 2016, the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa executive pastry chef and her staff spent 280 hours—and deployed more than 7,000 candy pieces—on the gingerbread house in the resort’s lobby. The achievement capped a season of national recognition for the upbeat chef, who had just secured a first-place victory in the Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge. She brings the same exaction and creativity to her wedding cakes. “Here at Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island, we offer wedding cake flavors that aren’t your typical vanilla and chocolate. We feature a s’mores flavor with house-made marshmallow, and a Key Lime Delight, which includes key lime mousse and graham cracker cream. You can eat cake every day, but a wedding cake should be something special.” “2016 was the year for rustic, simple buttercream cakes, but 2017 is going to be more of a bold year. I think sugar flower cakes are going to replace fresh flowers. Metallics such as gold, and especially rose gold, are seeming to phase out. Drip cakes in fun colors, to coordinate the color schemes of the wedding, are phasing in.” “Just when I think I’ve done it all, I get surprised. I’ve done things such as a surprise gender reveal for the couple where I had to dye the inside of the cake blue.” “Wedding cakes are so much more than fondant and cake: They are edible art. I put so much time, effort and love into these cakes that by the end of the process I start referring to them as my babies.”

Larry Rodkin, proprietor of Affordable Affairs & Events, has played Kool & the Gang’s “Celebration” enough times he may as well have written it. The MC, DJ and party entertainer has been a presence at weddings in The Palm Beaches since 1980. During his nearly four decades in business, his company has grown from a music provider to a comprehensive party planner offering everything from mariachi bands and tribute artists to barbershop quartets and belly dancers. “[Couples are] looking for something different, something unusual. Yet I’ve also had brides call us up and say, ‘You did my friend’s wedding six months ago. We’d like the same package.’ They want the same DJ, the same MC, the same lighting, the same monogram with their name on the wall.” “We’ve had people ask for everything from retro music—from the ‘80s and ‘90s—to swing music to doing karaoke at their weddings. One person’s most popular song is another person’s “God, I don’t want to hear it again!” song. As far as music trends, anything you hear on a pop radio station is going to be requested by the younger people.” “Sometimes when we talk to people, we ask, ‘How did you meet?’ We had a bride and groom who met in Paris. She was studying art and working on her master’s degree. He had graduated college and was backpacking through Europe. I took them into the warehouse and pointed to a seven-foot Eiffel Tower that we have and asked, ‘Where would you like that at your wedding?’” “By having a backstory on people— where they went to college, what their religion might be, the fact that they like horseracing—this helps, because the more personal you can make it, the better. We don’t want to be cookie-cutter.”

As Israeli native Benny Ofer likes to tell it, the first time he stepped onto a South Florida beach, following his mandatory service in his country’s Special Forces, he declared, “I am in the greatest place in the world, and I am never leaving.” Brides and grooms in a four-county radius have Ofer to thank for his decision: With Daniel Events, his nearly 20-year-old company in Delray Beach, this third-generation florist has helped raise the bar for wedding design, from organic imported bouquets to lighting and décor. “Brides look to high-end wedding designers to guide them in creating a unique and personalized look for their wedding. Designers help brides from ‘soup to nuts’ in completing all their accouterment and keeping the designs for their wedding in line, from the smallest

detail to the overall wedding atmosphere.” “We’re seeing a trend in French-inspired/ vineyard-type weddings, with lush florals, mixed metallics and pops of rich colors with unique and free-spirited touches throughout. However, the opulent Old World and Victorian look never went away for those that could afford it.” “Among flowers, peonies are always a bride favorite. The cultivation of beneficial relationships with the growers and farms has made peonies an almost year-round flower for our company. Another current trend is various greens from around the globe, such as dusty miller, Italian Ruscus, Italian ivy—which is larger and longer than English ivy—as well as seeded eucalyptus, silver-dollar eucalyptus and succulents. Our company is known for having flowers no one else can secure.”

“We planned our wedding over 11 months, and the [Hilton West Palm Beach] made all of our dreams come true! The Hilton itself was amazingly accommodating to our needs, from the private rehearsal dinner to the actual wedding day. And it wasn’t just the main Hilton people that went above and beyond—it was all the Hilton staff. They were all so gracious and supportive, making sure that all our needs were being met—not just us as bride and groom but all our guests as well. The Hilton itself is probably going to be unlike any other Hilton you’ve ever stayed at. From the valet parking to the grand entry, they didn’t miss one detail in making this a beautiful hotel inside and out.”

“Our wedding was magical! Everything from the food, drinks, atmosphere, setup, and location of our ceremony and reception was just perfect! There were so many great spots for our guests to enjoy after the wedding as well. The beautiful iDeck was great for people to sit and talk overlooking the fantastic pool area. It was a little brisk and windy, so the fire pits and heat lamps were available! The staff was so kind and generous for us as newlyweds. When leaving the wedding, our hotel room had a dozen chocolate strawberries and chilled champagne to continue the celebration! We had the most amazing suite with an awesome bathtub as well. I definitely had no complaints the weekend of our wedding!”

“Our experience at the Wyndham Grand was flawless. From the moment we walked into the elegant lobby, we knew that was where we were going to say ‘I do.’ The resort is beyond compare, for as big as the hotel is, it has a small feel, and that’s what was appealing to us. We could picture all our friends and family gathering by the pool or meeting for a cocktail before the big day. That was important to us. Marrying your best friend is what makes your wedding the best day ever, but having a fabulous wedding venue and an incredible staff to make that happen doesn’t hurt.”

The West Palm Beach metropolitan area recently earned a perfect 100 percent in the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index, solidifying The Palm Beaches as an LGBTQ-friendly haven. This extends to the venues and vendors showcased in this publication, who are thrilled to be a valued part of any couple’s unforgettable day. “The Eau Palm Beach brand has a long history of supporting diversity and inclusiveness amongst its staff, and welcoming LGBTQ guests from around the world,” says Nick Gold, director of public relations for Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa. “The resort’s beachfront setting provides an exclusive retreat for weddings of all sizes.” We’re also a prime honeymoon spot for a diversity of newlyweds. In fact, Florida is the second-most-visited state in the U.S. for LGBTQ honeymoons, according to Community Marketing & Insights’ 20th Annual LGBTQ Tourism Survey, completed in 2015. So be sure to visit, wed and celebrate in The Palm Beaches, where love always wins.

DON’T GET US WRONG. When it comes to weddings, we love the box: the ballrooms, the banquet halls, the churches, the time-honored traditions and formalities.

But we also know that the box isn’t for everyone. For brides and grooms looking to exchange vows against backdrops they won’t find anywhere else, these 10 sites pack a picturesque punch that only The Palm Beaches can offer.

It’s not often your wedding images can be photo-bombed by a sloth. But just about anything’s possible at the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society, where exotic species are within view, and earshot, of your wild and wooly reception. The zoo offers three locations for its ceremonies: in front of its sky-high fountain, among its Mayan Ruins, or in its Tropics Café. “Your wedding is always going to be

For the

an unforgettable day, but when you and your special guests are immersed in the beautiful sights and sounds of Palm Beach Zoo, it truly becomes a oneof-a-kind experience,” says Naki Carter, manager of media and public relations at the zoo. “Our guests are always impressed by our level of care and the attention to detail needed to manage every aspect of your special day.”

Turn Japanese for your ceremony and reception by hosting them at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, an oasis of Japanese culture and flora in a secluded setting in western Delray Beach. The Morikami hosts private weddings for up to 150 guests after-hours—attendees sit on tiered terraces overlooking a lake—as well as intimate daytime ceremonies for up to 35. A koi pond, along with occasional cameos from iguanas, wetland birds and rabbits, place brides and grooms in a lush, cultivated escape from urban bustle. “The fact that you can have the entire event outside, in such a serene setting, with beautifully pruned Japanese gardens, makes it unique,” says Alanna Keating, facility rental manager. Some couples have even chosen to stage an eastern wedding, complete with taiko drummers, Japanese bridal wear and Asian cuisine. The latter can be provided by the Cornell Café, the Morikami’s on-site caterer, which can also prepare American dishes. Jenn Hopkins Photography

Designing a wedding backdrop is its own art form, but why not let The Palm Beaches’ stellar museums do some of the work for you? At the Boca Raton Museum of Art, you might enjoy your first dance across from masterpieces by Warhol, Dali or Chagall—or pose with friends and family in front of a room-size mural. “Our exhibitions change throughout the year, so the setting and the feel and the art lends itself to adding that unique touch to a wedding,” says Mary Beth Harris, special events manager at the museum. “If I was a bride, and I have a love of art, I know that when I come to the museum, the exhibition for the backdrop will be unique just to my day.” Ceremony and reception locales on the museum grounds are entirely up to the bride or event planner, from the indoor Grand Hall space to the Sculpture Garden, with its moonlit ambience and light breeze.

Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach is a subtropical sanctuary of native flora and fauna, and its 20 interconnected gardens provide the ultimate green wedding. Kiss the bride under the shade of the Begonia Garden, tickle your senses in the Rose and Fragrance Garden, or cavort with friendly swallowtails in the Butterfly Garden. And for a canvas of color, there may be no better photo op than the appropriately named Rainbow Garden. “Mounts Botanical Garden is the ideal choice for an unforgettable outdoor wedding,” says Rochelle Wolberg, interim operations manager at Mounts. “Our lush tropical foliage and colorful flowering trees ensure a romantic, all-natural backdrop for both the ceremony and the postwedding photographs. The period between November and April is particularly desirable for weddings in the Garden, because more of the flowering plants are in glorious bloom.”

In its former life, the Lake Pavilion along the West Palm Beach waterfront hosted show-stopping art installations. Now, this immaculately designed, gleaming venue hosts breathtaking displays of a more personal nature: wedding ceremonies and receptions. The LEED-certified building includes three walls of solid, floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking water on all sides. “We always say the building offers million-dollar views of the Intracoastal Waterway,” says Angela Poco, community events supervisor for the City of West Palm Beach. “You can enjoy breathtaking views of our seascape docks and lavishly landscaped lawns.” Opportunities for picturesque ceremonies abound, with couples choosing to wed on the docks, the Pavilion’s Great Lawn, and “The Palm,” a signature platform in downtown West Palm Beach’s Centennial Square and Fountain Park, with its dynamic water features. The indoor reception venue, which seats 175, has no vendor restrictions, making the Lake Pavilion a blank slate for the most imaginative wedding designer.

Weddings are an historic occasion, so consider tying the knot at the most historic destination in The Palm Beaches: The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, whose storied existence dates to 1860. Couples wed on the deck at the base of the steps leading to the lighthouse, which serves as a towering backdrop for stunning photography. A dramatic ficus tree, circa 1938, provides shade for guests and covers the lighthouse’s deck. A museum, gazebo and lush vegetation complete the waterfront surroundings. “The intimate setting and closeness to the iconic lighthouse provides the bride and groom and their guests a spectacular view and a rare wedding experience,” says Kathleen Glover, assistant director at the lighthouse.

As the international capital of horse sport, the Village of Wellington in the western Palm Beaches is accustomed to hosting exciting events—like the Palm Beach Polo Season, which electrifies audiences from the sprawling grounds of the International Polo Club. With its vast stretches of manicured greens, the venue also makes for a stunning wedding locale. The club’s management can integrate equestrian themes into ceremonies and receptions, and can offer carriage rides

and horseback photo ops. “The International Polo Club Palm Beach is as unique a wedding venue as you can get—and if you love horses, there’s not a better place anywhere,” says Darlene Ricker, who handles media relations for the Club. “You can get married on the championship polo field and have the reception just steps away on the veranda of The Pavilion overlooking the beautiful field. Some polo players have even combined a polo match with their own wedding here!”

SunFest

For the

rockers and rollers

A wedding by the water is one option; exchanging vows in front of your favorite band is another. SunFest, The Palm Beaches’ biggest waterfront music and art festival, combines both of these attractions for five days each May: It’s a way to turn your celebration up to 11 while enjoying the breezes of the Intracoastal Waterway. Just ask Kelly Dean and Linda Manganaro, who met at SunFest—then married there four years later, in a private ceremony prior to the concert. Fergie, of the Black Eyed Peas, even gave them a shout-out from the stage. “SunFest offers one of the best receptions that a bride and groom could plan,” says Melissa Sullivan, the festival’s marketing director. “We have the fun and festivities—and we sure do take the wedding band selection up a notch!”

If farms conjure images of mud, livestock and tractors, then you haven’t visited Swank Farm. In its 15 years, the Loxahatchee destination has expanded to produce 350 varieties of organic and hydroponic produce on its 20-acre site, and it hosts up to nine “Swank Table” events each season, where chefs dish up multicourse meals from the farm’s harvests. One day in 2015, a food blogger decided to host her wedding at Swank, with Delray Beach restaurant Max’s Harvest catering the event. The reception took place in the recently built, 300-capacity barn structure. “It was just gorgeous,” recalls co-owner Jodi Swank. “One of the perks about having a [wedding here] is we have a huge field where our organic produce is growing, and the bride and groom get married in that field, so guests can see tomatoes and eggplant and all kinds of things growing on vines during a wedding reception. It’s a one-of-a-kind.” Swank has since hosted or scheduled five more weddings—all thanks to word-of-mouth.

Get married on the water, literally, by booking your celebration on one of Lots of Yachts’ impressive vessels. The organization owns 15 yachts accommodating parties of 50 to more than 500, docked at picturesque Palm Beach locales from Boca Raton to Jupiter. Whether the ship sails or remains anchored is entirely up to the wedding couple. Sheila Schwartz, president and CEO of Lots of Yachts, says her company has hosted 3,000 weddings over the past 25 years, from religious weddings to colorful Indian ceremonies, on yachts ranging from 40 to 180 feet. Sometimes, captains double as officiants. For guests, “it’s like having a little tour and vacation,” Schwartz says. “You’re focusing on the scenery, the ambience of the water and the weather. It takes the pressure off traditional weddings.”

It might be called the Lake Worth Casino Building, but you’d be shocked to find any gambling at this establishment. That’s because this historic 1920s edifice is no longer a functioning casino, maintaining the moniker only as a reminder of its roots. What this destination does offer are multiple venues for couples to celebrate their union—from a courtyard to a ballroom to a beach wedding—with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The Lake Worth Municipal Pier is just steps away for one-of-a-kind photo ops. “There’s a certain magic about a wedding at the Lake Worth Casino,” says Lauren Bennett, manager of sales, marketing and events. “You’re nestled between the Intracoastal and the ocean, both of which provide a breathtaking view of the sunset. What a lot of our clients enjoy is that they can truly make the ballroom their own space. It has neutral colors that allow for our clients to pick and choose any colors or designs they want.” For a complete listing of off-site wedding venues, turn to page 63. 40

in The Palm Beaches

Before the nuptials of your dreams can take flight, here’s the fine print on everything you need to know to legally tie a knot like a Palm Beacher. Marriage licenses can be obtained at any of five Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller locations (see listing below) for a fee of $93.50. When applying for a license, both parties must provide one of three forms of identification: a U.S. driver’s license, a federal or state ID card, and a passport listing name and date of birth. Both parties must read the Family Law Handbook, available as a PDF in English and Spanish on mypalmbeachclerk.com, before obtaining their license. Blood tests are not required. If either applicant was previously married, he or she must provide documentation of the manner in which the marriage ended and the exact date of its termination. Additional requirements pertain to marriage seekers ages 17 and younger. For information, call the county’s marriage licenses department at 561.355.2986. While there is a three-day waiting period for most Florida couples wishing to wed, no such wait exists for out-of-state couples. Uncertified copies of marriage licenses may be printed for free from the county’s Official Records website (mypalmbeachclerk.com/officialrecords) Certified copies must be obtained through the county clerk’s Records Service Center (palmbeachclerk.com/photocopy, 561.355.2976).

here may be no better way to forget you’re visiting a city with a population of 90,000 than by booking the Sky Deck suite at the Boca Beach Club. It’s a getaway within a getaway: The Beach Club is the sand-fronted sister property connected to the Boca Raton Resort & Club, Waldorf Astoria Collection (888.543.1277, bocaresort.com), and its Sky Deck is the apex of intimate luxury. Located on the Club’s fifth floor, it offers panoramic ocean views and a 250-square-foot deck ideal for watching sunsets. The floor-to-ceiling windows and separate rainfall shower sweeten the ambience. “It’s one of the most romantic room categories we have,” says Michelle Dvortsin, director of leisure sales at the Boca Resort. “It creates that beautiful outdoor feel right outside their room.” Those celebrating their new marriage at the Boca Resort can also partake in the award-winning Waldorf Astoria Spa, a 50,000-square-foot oasis modeled after the Alhambra Palace in Spain. “There’s a couples treatment area, with lots of massages tailor-made for the couple,” Dvortsin says. “There’s a pool for spa guests only, and it’s for adults only, so it creates a haven for honeymooners. The environment is relaxing and tranquil.” With 13 dining options at the Resort, couples can stay a weekend without hitting all of them. But Dvortsin recommends a dream trifecta: Apps and drinks at the Blue, the sky-high restaurant atop the Resort’s tallest building, which overlooks two counties; dinner at Lucca, its stylish Tuscan eatery; and a to-go frozen hot chocolate from dessert specialists Serendipity. European inspiration also imbues some of the signature amenities at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens (800.863.2819, pgaresort.com). tinct pools. One features salt and minerals from the Dead Sea; another features ingredients imported from the salt mines of France. There’s also a full-size swimming pool, a lounge pool and a hot tub. “Our spa has been known for the last 30 years as one of the best in our area, if not the southeastern United States,” says Anna Erickson, associate director of catering. “With 32 treatment rooms and the hair and nail salon, it’s the perfect place for a new wife to rejuvenate after the wedding experience.” Her new husband, meanwhile, can dust off his clubs at any of the five master-designed golf courses that give the resort its name. “For the groom to get out on the links, and relieve some stress after what can be an emotional wedding, is nice,” Erickson says. And if the newlyweds book one of the resort’s spa suites, they can unwind on the in-room massage table. Later, they can snuggle up at the iBar, a cozy cocktail spot anchoring the lobby, which features live music Thursdays to Saturdays. If you want to experience the paradise of Singer Island for your honeymoon, consider escaping to the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa (561.340.1700, palmbeachmarriottresort.com), the only all-suite hotel on this oceanfront enclave. Each of these suites has a private balcony with a view to die for.

Four Seasons Palm Beach

“The resort has so much to offer, with an international culinary team, a nationally known pastry chef, over 400 bottles of wine in our collection, two pools, a full-service spa and a private beach,” summarizes Stacy Lee, director of sales and marketing. Singer Island is one of the top scuba and snorkeling spots in the world, with a natural reef just steps from the lobby. Sporty couples can enroll in the Marriott’s Discover Scuba class or enjoy boating, Jet Skiing and other water activities. If it’s turtle nesting season (March to October), they might even see one of these glorious reptiles lay her eggs on the private beach. Honeymooners looking for a more culinary kind of adventure can expand their palates at the Kitchen Table experience at the resort’s 3800 Ocean restaurant. It seats up to five guests, there’s no menu, and you watch as the chef prepares your meal and discusses the ingredients. Beachy cuisine also takes center stage at Four Seasons Palm Beach (561.547.2100, fourseasons.com/palmbeach). This property boasts the only oceanfront restaurant on the island of Palm Beach, the Atlantic Bar and Grill, which offers a globetrotting menu with a seafood bias. When not dining on the water, guests can enjoy a fit honeymoon by taking the bike trail on a complimentary bicycle rental, an intimate airboat tour or a scuba session off the island’s many reefs, crevices and wrecks. But what makes the Four Seasons most stand out, according to Catering Director Ashley Lanier, is its ability to personally curate your celebration. “It’s a very intimate resort, so while we do have an extensive list of amenities, it’s not an

overwhelming resort,” she says. “At the root of it is that our hotel specializes in service and customization. [The couple] will feel special touches throughout the resort.” This can mean everything from monogrammed bathrobes in the oceanfront suites, champagne and strawberries upon room entry, and the ability to request an acoustic guitarist or photographer to enhance a romantic cabana dinner. Guests can even rent a Ferrari or Maserati to cruise along the island’s luxurious South Ocean Boulevard—and commute like a resident Palm Beacher. Couples can also cavort on The Palm Beaches’ sandy assets by booking a suite at the Tideline Ocean Resort and Spa (561.540.6440, tidelineresort.com). The Tideline prizes serenity and wellness, offering group and private yoga classes and rejuvenating treatments in any of the seven rooms in its 6,000-square-foot spa. “Newlyweds will escape into ultimate relaxation in the unpretentious luxury of the Tideline,” says Alen Mrkic, director of catering at the resort. “With its lavish beachfront setting, couples are invited to indulge in our luxe amenities with honeymoon privacy.” Their vacation wouldn’t be complete without refreshing dips in the outdoor heated pool and whirlpool, accompanied by a libation from the poolside bar. Speaking of cocktail concoctions, the resort’s on-site restaurant, Brandon’s on the Beach, is celebrated for its inventive beverages, from its frozen Coffee Colada to artisan cocktails such as Kentucky Hustler and Blood & Sandals. These nifty, only-in-Palm Beach indulgences can be enjoyed beachside. They go down swimmingly with Brandon’s New American cuisine, with its fresh seafood emphasis, extensive brunch selections and imaginative desserts.

Wyndham Grand Jupiter

As you may have gathered by now,The Palm Beaches’ top hotels adhere to the mantra of real estate: location, location, location. There’s not a bad one on our 47 miles of beachfront, but since its opening in 2014, the Wyndham Grand Jupiter (561.273.6600, wyndhamgrandjupiter.com) has been especially celebrated for its idyllic geography: It’s situated within Harbourside Place, an open-air enclave overlooking the Intracoastal, with 18 shops, eight restaurants and an amphitheater. The property is also a half-mile from pristine Jupiter Beach. “We’re at the center of it all,” says Sales Manager Adair Walters. “A couple can stay a long weekend and not have to leave in their vehicle. They can walk or jog to the beach, and shop and play in Harbourside.” And, given that Harbourside Place includes its own marina, honeymooners can hop aboard a Jupiter Water Taxi for even faster access to the town’s attractions. For $10 round-trip, the vessel takes guests sightseeing along the Intracoastal, and can drop them off and pick them up at any of Jupiter’s popular tiki bars and restaurants. Back at the hotel, be sure to leave time for the rooftop pool and Jacuzzi.

On Catering Trends: “Right now, the farm-to-table style is really popular. The traditional sit-down plated meal, where you have multiple courses, seems like it’s getting less popular. So we’re doing a lot of family style, where we bring out platters. They’re beautifully presented, but it’s all simple ingredients.” – Aaron Menitoff, caterer, Aaron’s Catering
