Photography Photographer Sheri Lynn Prisby launched Kelilina Photography as a one-woman operation in her native Hawaii in 2006. Fourteen years later, 10 photographers, editors and other visual artisans work under the Kelilina brand in multiple states—including Phil, Prisby’s husband and videographer. Sheri Lynn and Phil are recent transplants to South Florida, and they look forward to documenting dazzling Palm Beaches weddings for years to come. Sheri Lynn discusses recent trends in wedding photography, as well as a particular ceremony that stands out in her mind. “With photography and videography being an art, most people understand this and let us take the reins to just create beautiful images and films for them as they’ve seen us do for others. That being said, one thing almost all of our clients do mention is that they don’t like over-posed photos. We try to focus more on natural emotion. With over a thousand weddings under our belts, we know exactly when to be ready with our cameras to capture those emotion-filled candids throughout the day.”

Kelilina Photography 808.895.3590 kelilinaphotography.com

“I’ve shot many memorable weddings over the years, but a particular hurricane wedding takes the cake. The plan was a resort wedding, with the ceremony taking place on a pier and the reception on the resort’s private beach. The bride had even chartered a vintage VW bus to bring the bridal party around the city for amazing local photo-ops. But with a hurricane set to hit the day of the wedding, it started pouring rain a couple days before and didn’t stop. The bride woke on her wedding day to her car half underwater on the flooded street. Downtown was shut down, and my husband and I were unable to drive our rental car off the island we were staying on, so a wedding guest with a Jeep ended up coming to pick us up.” “The reception and ceremony sites each got changed four times throughout the day, and the resort was preparing for an emergency lock-in. Once the officiant called say he would be unable to get to there, the bride finally broke down—but my videographer husband, Phil, is also a licensed officiant, so she decided to have him do that instead, in order for them to get married. It would have been the most stressful day of their lives, but it was so sweet because they just wanted to get married, and it ended up being the most fun and memorable wedding ever.” “Easily our favorite part of wedding photography and videography is the backstage pass that we get to all the day’s festivities. We are the only vendor who is right there with the couple nearly every minute of the day—one of the most important and intimate days of their lives. This catapults us into a friendship, as we are there getting to know both sides of the family, befriending childhood and college friends alike, relieving the stress, drying the happy tears, sharing in the love and excitement. Because of this, we’ve been able to stay close to many of our clients, continuing to be a part of their lifetime milestones.”

Catering

James Bartle, who started his catering and event company SandyJames with former partner Sandy Kuba, has a rich history in our local kitchens, dating back to a humble deli in West Palm Beach nearly two decades ago. Bartle has continued to bring a strong work ethic and culinary chops to SandyJames Fine Food & Productions. SandyJames is the official in-house caterer of the National Croquet Center, and it is a go-to partner at unique venues from the Flagler Museum to Loggerhead Marinelife Center to West Palm Beach’s Lake Pavilion. Bartle, his partner Scott Reiser and their team have plated special events for SunFest, The Palm Beaches’ largest music festival; major galas and benefit balls; and even a dinner for President Obama. Shortly before the team spoke with The Palm Beaches Wedding & Honeymoon Guide, it had just completed a catering job at the Burning Man festival in Nevada. In addition to food, it handles event planning, staffing, floral arrangements, audiovisual equipment and more. The company is ready to please palates at your next destination wedding, complete with fivecourse dinners and stationary or passed hors d’oeuvres. Some of SandyJames’ popular options for cocktail hour include potato pancakes with duck trap smoked salmon, Marsh Harbor conch fritters with spicy remoulade, and Belgian endive curried chicken. Entrees can range from mixedgrill rack of lamb to Black Angus beef tenderloin

medallions to citrus-glazed halibut. Hungry yet? Scott Reiser, one of the company’s managers, tells us more. “When choosing hors d’oeuvres, I find it best to pick one or two from the following categories so everyone is taken care of: beef, seafood, poultry and vegetarian. When choosing food for the main menu, choose what is going to please most people, and then we, as caterers, can always handle the vegetarians, gluten-free, etc., on an individual basis. A duo entrée is also popular, such as beef and fish; I find this works great for those who are pescatarian, as we can just make it a double fish and leave off the beef.”

Sandy James Fine Food & Productions 561.366.0012 sandyjames.net

“We can accommodate weddings of 200 at National Croquet Center without needing any additional rentals; for groups of up to 400, we would rent a tent to attach to the veranda. The front of the house arrives three hours prior to the event, and it usually takes an hour to an hour and a half to break down. So for a five-hour event, including the ceremony, you’re looking at a ninehour day.” “A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event and most brides/grooms have meticulously planned every detail. So when I am able to exceed their dream wedding expectations, it makes me proud of what I do and the company I work for. I personally get involved with my brides and grooms, so it is rewarding to see the smiles and happy tears at the end of the night.” Wedding & Honeymoon Guide

Event Design & Transportation

Kirkland Event & Destination Services 561.296.9449 kirklanddmc.com

Founded by owner Paget Kirkland in 2006, Kirkland Event & Destination Services specializes in soup-to-nuts destination management. In its own lingo, it handles events “From Concept to Completion.” To that end, the company’s broad portfolio of wedding services includes floral, design, production, catering, photography and venue selection. It also handles all transportation needs through its sister organization, Palm Beach Tours & Transportation, and its subsidiary, Molly’s Trolleys, whose colorful and iconic vehicles further brighten an already magical day. Kirkland has built a stellar reputation based on its attentive and knowledgeable staff, its high level of service, its strategic partnerships with hotels and vendors and its many satisfied clients. Paget Kirkland elaborates on what makes her company a winning purveyor. “We understand how critical it is to communicate openly and accurately throughout the entire planning process. We listen intently before, during and after an event. We strive to forge a special working relationship that allows us to assist in planning and executing your event while staying attuned

18

to your specifications and budget. With over 25 years of event planning services under our belt, there really isn’t a wedding day ‘emergency’ that we could not calmly and quickly find a solution to. “We are the local expert here in The Palm Beaches, and have found that most people want to find the hidden gem of a location or the advice on the best catering services. We also have very talented team members that put together beautiful décor that make your reception magical—the color slate blue is definitely a trend at the moment. We love to listen and create a unique experience that really speaks to who you are as a couple.” “Since we have our own full-service transportation company, we personally know all of the drivers and have GPS tracking on all vehicles. We also have cameras in every vehicle to ensure the safety of the passengers and the drivers. If your flight is 20 minutes early, our driver will be also. We real-time track all flights and adjust schedules accordingly. Also, all of our vehicles are well maintained and go through routine maintenance checks to ensure the best possible level of service.”

Design & Floral

Daniel Events 561.393.1432 danielevents.com

Daniel Events has been a leader in luxury wedding and event design for the past 20 years. Led by owner, head designer and thirdgeneration florist Benny Ofer, the company is one of the few full event production houses remaining in The Palm Beaches. The name Daniel Events is known for its inventive designs and over-the-top flower creations—and as the “go-to” for all weddings, social and corporate event designs in South Florida. An initial trailblazer in the wedding market, the company itself has grown into a complete team of artisans and design dynamos who have moved the company into a broader event market by servicing the charity and social market as well as many Fortune 500 companies. This year marks the landmark 20th anniversary of the Daniel Events name. Ofer shares these insights into the current trends in his field. “Brides look to high-end wedding designers to guide them in creating a unique and personalized look for their wedding. Designers

help brides from ‘soup to nuts’ in completing all their accouterment and keeping the designs for their wedding in line, from the smallest detail to the overall wedding atmosphere.” “We’re seeing a trend in French-inspired/ vineyard-type weddings, with lush florals, mixed metallics and pops of rich colors with unique and free-spirited touches throughout. However, the opulent Old World and Victorian look never went away for those that could afford it.” “Among flowers, peonies are always a bride favorite. The cultivation of beneficial relationships with the growers and farms has made peonies an almost year-round flower for our company. Another current trend is various greens from around the globe, such as dusty miller, Italian Ruscus, Italian ivy—which is larger and longer than English ivy—as well as seeded eucalyptus, silver-dollar eucalyptus and succulents. Our company is known for having flowers no one else can secure.”

Menswear The Tux Shop 561.626.8899 tuxshoppalmbeach.com

Susan Damon, the owner of The Tux Shop, has been clothing the sharply dressed man for more than 30 years. Her store is said to be the only full-service tuxedo shop in Florida—meaning a man can walk in, try on a number of different looks, and leave with the tuxedo of his (or his fiancée’s) dreams. Recognized as “the bridal shop for grooms,” The Tux Shop features dozens of affordable tuxes for sale or rent in its deceptively compact Palm Beach Gardens store. “Wherever the wedding location is, that’s where the tuxedo should be serviced. Grooms need somebody locally to service that wedding there, because a button’s going to fall off, they’re going to put their foot through a hem, something’s going to need to be assisted. And recovery is key.” “Fit is important. You don’t have to wear a tux as it comes off the hanger anymore, even if it’s a designer label. Your physical shape is going to be different than the designer who created that outfit. You need it to fit properly.” “Old school is trending. We even have a tuxedo that we named The Frank, after Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. We can all relate to the Rat Pack era, when the greats used to wear tuxedos. We now are going back to that look. Now that casual Friday has become casual all week, the importance of getting dressed up is even greater. James Bond is another character who helps the men’s clothing world. Because that character is popular and relevant, it follows suit—pardon the pun—with men’s clothing.” “Other than black, we are seeing navy blues, charcoal greys and fun dinner jackets as a second coat, for a groom to change into for a reception. Because when they are doing something a bit more formal, then that reception is more of a party aspect, and the bride is often changing into something else too.”

Lasting Memories

Real brides and grooms discuss how the resorts, ballrooms and event spaces of The Palm Beaches made their nuptial dreams come true.

Wedding & Honeymoon Guide

23

Lasting Memories

Our wedding at the Pelican Club was what dreams are made of! We welcomed our guests with champagne on the front lawn, followed by a breathtaking outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour on the deck overlooking the water. After sunset, we moved into the reception room (also stunning!) for a remarkable feast, and then danced the night away with our nearest and dearest. The location and view speak for themselves, but it was the staff that truly exceeded our expectations and brought everything together for us, with their impeccable service and attention to detail. Not only did we have our every whim attended to as the bride and groom, but our guests also raved about the service team—how well they worked together, how much they seemed to enjoy what they were doing, and how engaged they were. While I would’ve married this man anywhere, any time, we were so incredibly fortunate to have chosen the Pelican Club to bring our family and friends together in such a gorgeous location, in celebration of our love. It was a night we will cherish forever!

Hilton Singer Island was a beautiful place for a beach wedding, and definitely exceeded our expectations. The staff was accommodating, enthusiastic and invested in us on a personal level. The setting itself was amazing, as our small wedding fit perfectly in a small alcove on the beach, and the covered outdoor pavilion provided a great open-air environment for our reception, just steps away from where we had the ceremony. Additionally, Emileen and I love Palm Beach and Florida, in general. I vacationed in Palm Beach as a kid, and it was really cool to have my wedding there. Emileen is from South Africa, and she had 11 family members fly in from Cape Town to attend the wedding, so we wanted a place to spend a week together as one big family. Palm Beach was a perfect place for this!

25

Lasting Memories There is not a single other venue that can provide the beauty, style and service that The Breakers has, and we wanted nothing but the best for our special day. It was the easiest decision we made while planning the entire event. There couldn’t possibly be a favorite moment, because every moment was out of a fairy tale. It was perfect.

Lasting Memories

We chose The Addison because when we walked under the archways for the ďŹ rst time, we felt like we were transported into one of our many favorite fairy tales. The banyan trees immediately reminded us of the Tree of Life in one of our favorite places, Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The history, magic and beauty of The Addison took our breath away. When we met the Addison team, we knew exactly what we wanted to make our storybook wedding into a reality, and somehow the amazing staff and vendors orchestrated an evening that far surpassed anything that we could have ever envisioned for us and our guests. To say that this was a dream experience, from planning to our wedding day, would be an understatement.

Lasting Memories

We chose Eau Palm Beach because of the intimate yet beautiful and serene scene that the [resort] offers. This was our second wedding for us both, so we wanted to keep the wedding small, intimate and loving. The ocean view in the background was exactly what we were looking for. Everything turned out beautifully. They were able to let us use the Angle restaurant, which is not common, but due to the date of our wedding, the restaurant was closed and available to use as our reception ballroom; that really was the icing on the cake for us. We had a beautiful day set aside prior to the ceremony where my fiancé and I got to taste the menu and make some final decisions on the food. But overall, the beauty of the venue, both indoor and outdoor, along with the intimacy of the location was what set the Eau apart for us.

Diana Wile, bride 28

Lasting Memories Rico and I toured several locations for our long-awaited wedding, and it quickly became apparent that Tideline Ocean Resort and Spa was a perfect fit. The modern architecture overlooking the ocean reflected our sensibilities. The overall vibe was special and sophisticated, but comfortable—a place where our guests (many of whom had traveled from other states) could relax and enjoy the weekend. Probably the most important thing was the Tideline team. The catering sales manager was flexible and helpful (and kept us on task), the front desk team was friendly and assisted our guests, and the banquet captain made sure the wedding went off without a hitch—even with a last-minute change.

When my husband proposed, I told him right away where I wanted us to get married—at PGA National Resort & Spa—and he was thrilled. We have family all over—New York, Philadelphia, Israel, California—so wherever we got married would be somewhat of a destination wedding for everyone, and PGA was the perfect choice.

Jeff Kolodny

Everyone came in early and stayed at the hotel, so we were able to spend a lot of time with everyone during the day at the gorgeous pool and at night at the iBar—not to mention the spa and salon for pre-wedding treatments! We also had our rehearsal dinner there and the farewell brunch the day after the wedding. It couldn’t have been easier, and the staff was amazing.

For the actual wedding, we had the ceremony outside in the pavilion just at sunset. It was stunning. Cocktail hour was in a different location, and was half inside/half outside, so all of the guests were able to walk around freely. The reception room was the final location; I loved that we were in different areas throughout the evening. It was a night I’ll remember forever.

Lasting Memories “I have been going to the Boca Resort since I was a baby. My grandfather was a member of the Beach Club, and I have great memories as a child at the hotel. I always dreamed of getting married at the Resort, and when Arryn and I started dating I brought him to spend time at the hotel. Together we built great memories at the Resort, and when we got engaged we knew it was the place for us! The Cathedral Ballroom is one of the most unique spaces in all of South Florida, and the Resort has unlimited options to customize your wedding just the way you want it to be. We couldn’t be happier with our venue choice. We still visit the Resort, and it brings back memories of our wedding day.”

International Polo Club – Palm Beach, Wellington

HORSE Play

As the international winter capital of horse sport, the Village of Wellington in the western Palm Beaches is accustomed to hosting exciting events—like the Palm Beach Polo Season, which electrifies audiences amidst the sprawling grounds of the International Polo Club Palm Beach. With its vast stretches of manicured greens, the venue also makes for a stunning wedding locale. The club’s experienced events department can integrate equestrian themes into ceremonies and receptions, while offering luxurious décor and catering. “The International Polo Club is one of the most unique wedding venues in South Florida. If you want an outdoor ceremony, the championship polo field offers a beautiful backdrop, and then you are just steps away from the reception in the Pavilion that can host up to 500 guests,” comments Vaneli Bojkova, events director at the Club. “Our team really works to customize each event here, from the table settings to the cuisine. We’ve even arranged for polo players and their ponies to come to the field and meet guests!” 34

It’s a BREEZE

For some couples, there’s nothing like tying the knot on a secluded beach, with guests’ toes in the sand, the lap of waves soundtracking your first kiss, and a majestic sunset bathing the altar in a radiant glow. With its four miles of private beachfront, the Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront/Palm Beaches Resort is one of the few venues in the area to offer this breezy option. Following the ceremony, a covered, 3,588-square-foot oceanfront pavilion makes for a great way to keep the action outdoors. “We selected a beach wedding for our ceremony because we both love the warm weather and feel a deep connection to the beach and ocean, in particular. We both recognize the enormity, power, peacefulness, and wonder of the ocean,” says Rick Macieko, who married Emileen Stevens at Hilton Singer Island in 2019. “We figured getting married on the beach, alongside the ocean, was the best place to do justice to the lifelong bond we were entering into.”

Delray Beach Golf Club, Delray Beach

Par for the COURSE

Plenty of wedding venues in The Palm Beaches can claim spectacular golf course views. But few provide the opportunity to exchange vows directly on the course itself. This perk has made the Delray Beach Golf Club a hole-in-one for countless couples. “We offer the ceremony directly on the 10th tee,” says Beth Mullen, catering director for the club. “The backdrop is beautiful, with greenery all around, and you don’t see any houses. We set up a nice gazebo out there, and it offers that nice Florida outdoor feel that brides love.” The 10th tee is not only ideal for the views; it’s also accessible by any mode of transportation the wedding couple and their guests choose, from golf cart to limousine to horse and carriage to simply walking. An outdoor patio space makes for a social cocktail hour, but if weather becomes an issue, Mullen says, the festivities can move inside to one, or both, of the club’s elegant ballrooms.

ANIMAL Instincts

There’s nothing like seeing a manatee, one of the signature beauties of South Florida marine life, up close and in its natural habitat. And during manatee season— Nov. 15-March 30—only one venue in The Palm Beaches specializes in manatee viewing for brides, grooms and their guests, alongside its blockbuster water views. “We are right along the waterfront of the Lake Worth Lagoon,” says Whitney Cunningham, special events manager for FPL’s Manatee Lagoon—An Eco-Discovery Center in West Palm Beach. “We have access to the waterway that’s unlike any venue in West Palm Beach. We look directly across to Palm Beach island, and we’re one of the few destinations where guests can observe manatees huddled during cold weather months.” Couples can wed in five separate spaces on the Manatee Lagoon grounds: under its magnificent banyan tree, on its landscaped south lawn, on its covered pavilion, on its waterfront veranda and in its indoor exhibit room. Chances are they’ll depart with a new appreciation for Florida’s “sea cows;” the venue often hires “manatee masters”—aka ecology students from our local universities—to educate wedding guests who want to learn more.

On the WATERFRONT

In its former life, the Lake Pavilion along the West Palm Beach waterfront hosted show-stopping art installations. Now, this immaculately designed, gleaming venue hosts dazzling displays of a more personal nature: wedding ceremonies and receptions. The LEED-certified building includes three walls of solid, floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking water on all sides. “We always say the building offers million-dollar views of the Intracoastal Waterway,” says Angela Poco, community events supervisor for the City of West Palm Beach. “You can enjoy breathtaking views of our seascape docks and lavishly landscaped lawns.” Opportunities for picturesque ceremonies abound, with couples choosing to wed on the docks, the Great Lawn, and “The Palm,” a signature platform in downtown West Palm Beach’s Centennial Square. The indoor reception venue, which seats 175, has no vendor restrictions, making the Lake Pavilion a blank slate for the most imaginative wedding designer. Wedding & Honeymoon Guide

SWANK-Y Digs

If farms conjure images of mud, livestock and tractors, then you haven’t visited Swank Farm. In its 19 years, the Loxahatchee destination has expanded to produce 375 varieties of organic and hydroponic produce, plus wildflowers on its 20-acre site, and it hosts up to 18 “Farm to Table” events each season, where local and national chefs dish up multicourse meals from the farm’s harvests. In New Years Eve 2019, Alexandra and Kevin decided to host their wedding at Swank. The reception took place in the 300-person-capacity barn structure. “It was just stunning,” recalls co-owner Jodi Swank. “One of the perks about having a [wedding here] is we have a huge field where our organic produce and colorful flowers are growing, and the bride and groom get married in that field, so guests can see tomatoes, eggplants, wildflowers and all kinds of things growing on vines during a wedding reception. It’s oneof-a-kind, secluded and perfect!”

State of the

ART

The Norton Museum of Art has always been a revered institution in The Palm Beaches, but in 2019, when it reopened after a $100 million transformation, it became a West Palm Beach landmark, anchoring an emerging food, entertainment and historical district. And after discontinuing its wedding services during its construction phase, the museum is back to hosting glamorous ceremonies filled with worldclass art in unparalleled settings—like the brand-new sculpture garden, with its “pockets” of abstract and eccentric sculptures adding color and wit to their verdant surroundings. It’s one of six separate spaces the museum can offer guests for their festivities. “In an area where architecture directly influences a couple’s vision, we believe the Norton provides a fresh and modern canvas for couples to come in and create their masterpieces,” says Veronica Grace Davis, special events associate. This includes access to the museum’s new indoor galleries as well, where Norton staff can usher guests and suggest the art best suited for stunning photo ops. 36

Grand SLAM

During its busiest season, in February and March, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is the Spring Training home to two Major League franchises, the St. Louis Cardinals and South Florida’s own Miami Marlins. For the remainder of the year, this 110,000-acre professional sports stadium is available to host a wedding that truly hits all the bases. Couples can hold their ceremonies directly on the field, where past and future MLB stars have competed; host their receptions in a covered picnic area with a 300-guest capacity; and transform six air-conditioned suites on the stadium’s second floor into groom and bridal suites. The future spouses can even utilize the 35-foot video board to project larger-than-life images of the happy couple, while enjoying new photo ops in the players’ bullpens, dugouts and clubhouses. “Many of the people who reach out for an opportunity like this at our ballpark are usually fans of one of our teams, the Marlins or Cardinals,” says Sarah Campbell, marketing and promotions manager. “So the idea of being able to host it on the same field that their favorite players play, and have the team clubhouse in the background, is an excitement all its own.”

In BLOOM

Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach is the ultimate green wedding destination. This 14-acre tropical oasis includes an acclaimed collection of 25 unique garden areas. Take your wedding vows in the Gazebo Garden, an intimate space surrounded by dappled shade and lush foliage; or tickle your senses in the Rose and Fragrance Garden. For a canvas of color, the Rainbow Garden offers an abundance of colorful flowers and foliage. “Mounts Botanical Garden offers an unforgettable location for an outdoor wedding,” says Rochelle Wolberg, curator and director. “Our tropical foliage and flowering trees ensure a romantic, all-natural backdrop for both the ceremony and the post-wedding photographs. The period between November and April is particularly desirable for weddings in the Garden, as more of the flowering plants are in glorious bloom.”

Have a BALL

It’s been described as “having a party in your own mansion.” Specializing in croquet, a lively ground-billiards game with roots in 17th century aristocracy, the National Croquet Center is the world’s largest croquet destination—a four-acre sprawl with 19 full-sized lawns. “As you pass through the gates of the National Croquet Center, it brings you back to a time when pocket watches, walking sticks and martinis were a familiar sight on the Palm Beach croquet circuit,” says Scott Reiser, director of events at the center. “Our Florida Keys-style veranda, with its candlelit dining room, is the perfect backdrop for a beautiful outdoor or indoor wedding and reception.” The center can easily accommodate up to 600 guests, who can pose with croquet mallets for unique photo ops. For a small fee, the NCC team can even organize croquet matches during cocktail hour. Swank Farm, Loxahatchee Groves National Croquet Center, West Palm Beach

Out to Sea Seafaring brides and grooms can consider a private charter on Visit Palm Beach’s Hakuna Matata, which can be customized for a couple’s needs. There are “no worries” allowed on this colorful catamaran, which year-round hosts Sunset Cruises, Moonlight Mermaid Cruises and Catamaran Snorkel Cruises—for those couples who want to literally take the plunge. The vessel is also popular for bachelor and bachelorette parties and rehearsal dinners. Leigh Bennett, director of marketing and business development for Visit Palm Beach, tells us more.

Can you share a bit about the Hakuna Matata herself? The Hakuna Matata is a custom-built 50-foot catamaran specifically designed for socializing with groups from 10-49 guests. Her singlelevel deck layout is ideal for mingling, lounging and dancing. At 26 feet wide, she is extremely stable, and guests experience almost no “rocking” onboard. She has a large bar area which is partially covered, plenty of cushioned seating and two large hammock nets in front— perfect for sunbathing or stargazing with your sweetie during a romantic moonlight sail. She is equipped with a music system, full restroom, ice and accent lighting, and is Coast Guardcertified for 49 passengers plus crew. What are the advantages for a couple choosing to get married on a catamaran? The Hakuna Matata is perfect for a small wedding and offers the convenience of providing an easy venue with staff, music, seating and dance floor, with the most breathtaking and romantic backdrop possible— the waterway, lush mansions/landscaping and beautiful mega-yachts. What is the boat’s itinerary for the wedding? Can it be combined with a longer cruise or honeymoon? The Hakuna Matata is not equipped for longer journeys and does not provide sleeping quarters, but she can go out of multiple locations in South Florida if requested, including Jupiter, Lantana, Boca Raton, Miami, etc., (additional travel and dockage fees apply). A typical wedding would be two to four hours depending on the type of event, and can include just the ceremony or just the reception or a combination of both. We do brunch-style wedding events, sunset/dinner cruises or moonlight dance and cocktail-type cruises.

Why is the ship also popular for bachelor(ette) parties and rehearsal dinners? Because the boat is just so much FUN and easy for everyone to be together, surrounded by beauty. It exemplifies all the reasons a couple would want to have a wedding in The Palm Beaches! Another very popular option for weddings is to offer a three-to-four-hour daytime pre- or post-wedding excursion for their guests so they can get out on the water to float, snorkel, swim and enjoy the area all together. In terms of design and décor, can the boat be customized for a couple’s specific vision? Couples are welcome to add decor for their event including flowers, additional lighting, signage, etc. We do not allow balloons on board, and electrical needs may require use of generator. Can you talk about food service on board? Will the couple lose anything in terms of the quality/quantity of the appetizers and entrees served in a traditional on-land ceremony? Couples have the option of using our catering services or providing their own. Typical events include a beautiful spread of plattered and passed appetizers, and those offering a full meal follow with a buffet lunch/dinner. The service is casually elegant and always delicious! What happens if it rains? The four-letter word no bride wants to hear when planning an outdoor event! Like most venues, we just can’t control Mother Nature. However, we do our best to accommodate our couples in all situations, including waiting it out, routing accordingly or ultimately rescheduling or canceling if deemed dangerous. With a good portion of the boat covered, we are able to go out in light rain and typically are able to use radar to route our course away from incoming rain. For more on charting an event on the Hakuna Matata, contact Visit Palm Beach at 561.881.9757.

Weddings

in The Palm Beaches

OK, it’s time for the fine print. Weddings are magical celebrations, especially in The Palm Beaches’ countless one-of-a-kind venues—but they are also legal pacts. Here is everything you need to know to secure a marriage license from the county. Licenses can be obtained at any of five Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller locations (see listing below) for a fee of $86 plus sales tax. When applying for a license, both parties must provide one of three forms of identification: a U.S. driver’s license, a federal or state ID card or a passport listing name and date of birth. Both parties must read the Family Law Handbook, available as a PDF in English and Spanish on mypalmbeachclerk.com, before obtaining their license. Blood tests are not required. If either applicant was previously married, he or she must provide documentation of the manner in which the marriage ended and the exact date of its termination. Additional requirements pertain to marriage seekers ages 17 and younger. For information, call the county’s marriage licenses department at 561.355.2986. While there is a three-day waiting period for most Florida couples wishing to wed, no such wait exists for out-of-state couples. Uncertified copies of marriage licenses may be printed for free from the county’s Official Records website (mypalmbeachclerk.com/officialrecords). Certified copies must be obtained through the county clerk’s Records Service Center (palmbeachclerk. com/photocopy, 561.355.2976).

If you choose to honeymoon in The Palm Beaches, you’ll get to experience the laid-back comforts of island time without leaving the U.S. “Florida’s pretty similar to the Caribbean but without the hassle of travel,” says Geri Eannarino, director of sales at the Seagate Hotel & Spa in Delray Beach (877.577.3242). “It’s good for those couples who want a relaxing honeymoon where they like to be at the beach during the day or explore restaurants or nightlife in the evening. If they like to golf, snorkel or enjoy water sports, we have that too.”

Seagate Hotel & Spa, Delray Beach, photos above and below

The Seagate can offer all of these amenities from its primo location in trendy downtown Delray Beach, just two miles from the ocean. Whether or not the couple chose to wed at the Seagate, Eannarino recommends honeymooners book the Bridal Suite. “It’s got a four-poster bed and a separate living space area with an infinity-edge soaking tub and an amazing shower,” she says. “And we offer a massage in that room—an 80-minute divine indulgence that comes in a private luxurious bath with a Swiss shower and a 25-minute reflexology treatment.” The Seagate offers live entertainment Tuesdays through Saturdays, and its focus on local marine life makes it unique among its hospitality peers: Five fish tanks are spread throughout the property, and their inhabitants—sharks, jellyfish, eels and more—make for dynamic photo ops. Guests at the Seagate also have access to the resort’s private Beach Club, a short and free trolley ride from the hotel. “The staff is on the beach

when you arrive, and they’ll organize chairs, towels, bring you cold beverages. They pamper you so you don’t have to do much other than work on your tan,” Eannarino says. Boasting a 42,000-square-foot spa that has been named one of the 10 best in the world, Eau Palm Beach (800.328.0170, eaupalmbeach.com) is one of The Palm Beaches’ signature destinations for honeymooners primed to relax and rejuvenate after a whirlwind wedding. The oceanfront spa and resort, conveniently located on Palm Beach island, specializes in cutting-edge treatments with a whimsical flair. Many are geared toward couples and include seductive perks—like the Couples Chrysalises massage, which includes champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries and a Dry Float bed treatment. “We are an intimate oceanfront resort, and we offer so many things to honeymooners, such as a world-class spa, where you can enjoy champagne and cupcakes, and amazing treatments in our couples massage room, along with exceptional cuisine throughout the resort,” summarizes Nick

Gold, public relations director at the resort. “The Jonathan Adler-designed guestroom is the icing on the cake.”

Serene indulgence also takes center stage at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens (800.863.2819, pgaresort.com), an aquatic wonderland. The sprawling property’s 40,000-square-foot European Spa is famous for its iconic Waters of the World mineral pools. One features salt and minerals from the Dead Sea; another features ingredients imported from the salt mines of France. There’s also a full-size swimming pool, a lounge pool and a hot tub at the main resort.

A stay at Eau Palm Beach is a bespoke experience, with resort staff happy to curate the honeymoon toward the couple’s wishes, be they outdoor adventures like standup paddleboard sessions in the ocean, or a spa treatment and dinner under the stars in a private beach cabana, complete with butler service and chef-selected menu. For the couple that wants to go all out, Gold recommends booking the oceanfront Lanai Terrace Suites. “The room is on the ground floor, so you open your expansive terrace, and you’re right at the beach and pool without using an elevator. The suite is nearly 800 square feet with a living room, pullout couch, area to entertain and private bedroom, with a soaking tub that looks out to the ocean,” he says. Another resort offering waterfront bliss is Boca Raton’s Waterstone Resort & Marina (561.368.9500, waterstoneboca.com), whose 139 nautical-themed guestrooms include private balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. The Four Diamond Award-winning resort boasts a luxurious assortment of activities, all of them directly on the water. Honeymooners will appreciate refreshing ocean breezes every time they step outside, whether it’s swimming in the pool and watching boats glide down the Intracoastal; or dining in Boca Landing, the on-site, chef-driven waterfront restaurant that is popular among locals. “We’re the only on-the-waterfront resort in Boca Raton offering a truly romantic setting,” says Jennifer Graham, director of sales and marketing. “As a secluded boutique hotel, we’re walking distance to the beach and are within a 3-mile radius of a wide variety of numerous upscale restaurants.” The Waterstone’s free shuttle service can take couples anywhere within those three miles, including drop-offs and pickups on Boca Raton’s prized beach. Or for a brief getaway in true Palm Beaches fashion, rent three hours on The Palm Breeze, the Waterstone’s 55-foot Catamaran Cocktail Cruise, a blissful opportunity to watch the evening fade into the night. 46

“Our spa is known as one of the best in the area,” says Michele Palischak, director of catering and conference services. “With 32 treatment rooms and a full-service hair and nail salon, it’s the perfect place to rejuvenate after your wedding experience.” Meanwhile, grooms and brides can dust off their clubs at any of the five master-designed golf courses that give the resort its name. “And if the newlyweds book one of the resort’s spa suites, they can unwind on the in-room massage table,” Palischak says. Later, the wedding guests can continue the celebration at the iBar, the resort’s cocktail spot anchoring the lobby. For a more secluded honeymoon getaway rooted in local history, West Palm Beach’s Casa Grandview (561.655.8932, casagrandview.com) offers modern luxuries in a lovingly preserved 1925 building. This bed-and-breakfast, a AAA Four-Diamond award-winner nestled in the city’s Grandview Heights Historic District, houses just five adults-only rooms, each with their own theme and personality, from the second-floor Penthouse Suite, accessible via vintage turret staircase; to the Library Suite, with its window seat and Moroccan-style furnishings; to the Mezzanine Suite, with its private en-suite bath and vanity. Additional perks include a heated saline pool in a tropical oasis setting. “Many honeymooning couples prefer to rent a vacation cottage for more space, privacy, and proximity to the saline heated pool,” says Cheryl Grantham, owner and operator. “If you’re seeking a destination for your honeymoon that’s low-key yet intimate, let Casa Grandview assist in making your day memorable.”

The Granthams ensure that southern hospitality permeates every moment of the guest experience, right down to the inn’s famous three-course, made-toorder breakfast prepared by the Granthams themselves. Honeymooners can specialize their stay by purchasing a Romance Package, which includes fresh seasonal flowers in a vase, chocolate-covered strawberries, silk rose petals and sparkling cider arranged in the suite. On the opposite end of the size spectrum lies The Breakers Palm Beach (561.655.6611, thebreakers. com), a legendary 140-acre property with breathtaking architecture modeled on the historic Villa Medici in Rome. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and nestled within its own landscaped habitat, The Breakers provides an idyllic, sub-tropical destination whose very design emanates romance. And with more than $30 million reinvested into the property each year, the quality of its architecture and amenities only continues to increase. “We’re a business under single-family ownership—heirs of founder Henry Flagler—who continuously invest within the team; their fulfillment and well-being is our highest priority,” says Michele Wilde, director of conferences and events at The Breakers. “In turn, our staff cares for our customers with genuine warmth and personalization.” Honeymooners never have to venture off The Breakers’ property; every need or want is just a stroll away. The Breakers’ private beachfront features four distinctive pools, each with magnificent vistas of the ocean and poolside bungalows available for daytime rental; plus nine restaurants, a celebrated spa, shopping, two championship golf courses, snorkeling or tennis lessons, and what Wilde describes as “the ultimate” indulgence: a private yacht charter for the day.

Damn Good Beer Bus

Do you and your mates have a taste for crafty libations? Cruise the Ale Trail of The Palm Beaches and navigate your way through 19 acclaimed craft breweries, where flavors enjoyed nationwide have originated. Download the Ale Trail map at thepalmbeaches.com/ale-trail-palm-beaches—or just hop on the Damn Good Beer Bus, a tour that lives up to its name by visiting three of our best breweries in four hours, complete with a beer flight from each provider and koozies, water, snacks and coolers onboard the bus. If you fancy cocktails, a tour of the Palm Beach Distillery provides a refreshing buzz, and the opportunity to sample its acclaimed Lost Harbour brand of vodka, gin, rum and capistara. Sometimes, though, the most fun can be had on two wheels: Consider jetting around West Palm Beach and the island of Palm Beach on a Segway with Palm Beach Segway Tours, a safe but adventurous way to discover interesting trivia about our region—no pedaling necessary. The Palm Beaches offer a number of trendy locations bursting with opportunities for unbridled fun and friendly competition. Golf enthusiasts who can’t wait for their honeymoon to hit the links can play virtual courses at West Palm Beach’s all-new Drive Shack, where they can swing real clubs toward digital holes on a state-of-the-art projection screen, practice their drives on 96 all-weather hitting bays, or party with their groomsmen or bridesmaids on the rooftop terrace lounge. For more indoor fun, book a night at Club 66 in Boynton Beach, which houses a pinball arcade, a three-screen Racing Simulator, a first-rate collection of American classic muscle cars and a cocktail lounge in a 7,000-square-foot, industrial-chic space. Drinks and mirth also share real estate at Tin Roof, one of the newest nightspots on bustling Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach. Live music resounds from two stages, along with karaoke, trivia, drag shows and a menu of upscale bar food.
