Labour - ‘No more tinkering on the edges’
With a general election drawing closer, shadow transport minister Simon Lightwood addressed bus and coach operators in London last week An incoming Labour government would use simplified and extended franchising powers to grow public transport, and provide the sector with greater certainty. That was the message from shadow local transport minister Simon Lightwood at last week’s CPT Conference in London. Lightwood told delegates: “No more tinkering around the edges ... Labour’s bold industrial strategy, together with our ambitious plan for communities to take back control of their transport system will allow the sector and the economy to thrive.”

Go-Ahead to run Stockholm Metro Connecting Stockholm joint venture with ComfortDelGro wins 11-year contract Connecting Stockholm, a joint venture between The Go-Ahead Group and ComfortDelGro, has been awarded a contract to operate and maintain the Stockholm Metro network, known as the Tunnelbana. Awarded by the Traffic Committee in Region Stockholm, the contract will be for a term of 11 years starting from May 2025. Connecting Stockholm will operate and maintain metro services across three lines comprising 100 stations, six depots

Under the terms of the contract, Connecting Stockholm will be responsible for customer service, the planning and delivery of rail services, fleet and stations maintenance, as well as depot facilities. Commenting on the award, Go-Ahead rail CEO Patrick Verwer, said: “This is an exciting contract, and it underlines our ambition to expand in rail operation.”
