Dads Are Not Just Helping, They Are Parenting Dads Are Not Just Helping, They Are Parenting. A father is someone who not only gives life, but educates with love, and takes full responsibility for his family.

It is so common to hear the phrase “my partner helps me with the kids”, but think about it: Dads Are Not Just Helping, They Are Parenting. And those fathers who are involved will tell you it is the most rewarding experience. Why is it that we still thing that the responsibility of taking care of kids is only for women? A father who is involved in every single aspect of his children’s life is being rewarded with the most beautiful gift life can give him. 5
Dads Are Not Just Helping, They Are Parenting continued… Your partner is not someone that makes your “work” a little bit easier from time to time. He is someone who knows how to be present, who loves, takes care, and takes responsibility for what gives a real meaning to his life: his family. Fathers who are not involved with their children are missing out big time! The father who wakes up at night, changes diapers, and gives baths, is not “helping” the mother, he is experiencing the most wonderful part of his life: he is experiencing his paternity. He is being rewarded with unconditional love and many memorable life experiences.
A father is someone who teaches, who listens to concerns; and even plays when he is tired after a full day at work. A real dad also cries when their kids are giving him a hard time. Only a father who is involved will understand that being a parent is the most difficult and challenging job in the world. Did you know that if a man plays a primary role in taking care of his baby, he experiences the same neurological changes that women do when they become mothers? “A new study, suggests that caring for children awakens a parenting network in the brain—even turning on some of the same circuits in men as it does in women. The research implies that the neural underpinnings of the so-called maternal instinct aren’t unique to women, or activated solely by hormones, but can be developed by anyone who chooses to be a parent.” 6
Dads Are Not Just Helping, They Are Parenting continued‌ Taking care of our children should be a mutual responsibility. Not one that is imposed but one that comes naturally when we become parents. Remember that love is all we need to raise our children. If both parents are fully involved, we will teach our kids such a good example. They will grow up without stereotypes or gender labels. So the answer is: YES! Fathers also cook, research the best natural remedy, read stories, and give baths at night. They can laugh, cry, obsess, and worry the same way we mothers do.

Going Back To Old-Fashioned Play Another trend I am sure we will continue to see in 2018 is Old-Fashioned Play. Parents are becoming extremely concerned about their kids’ addiction to electronics. We know that is not the best for their development. This is why outdoor activities, board games, and hand crafts are making a come back. Experts agree that the best type of play is “real play”, and not sitting in front of a screen.

Did you know that babies’ brains develop faster and better when exposed to more than one language? Experts agree that when children are exposed to more than one language, their brains develop better and faster compared to children exposed to only one. And this benefit starts when they are babies are learning their very first words. At home, we make an effort to speak only in Spanish. We know that our kids will learn English at school and with their friends no matter what. This is very important in our family not only because of the benefits of bilingualism, but because we want our kids to be proud of their roots. Now, the latest study by researchers from the University of Washington in Seattle found the development actually starts by the time babies are 11 months old and are getting ready to say their first word. Researchers found that the area of the brain responsible for what is known as “executive function” was more developed among babies in a bilingual home than one with just one language. What this means, according to the experts, is that because executive function is essentially the brain’s control room, from which it organizes the rest of the brain, children who have a more developed “executive function” have better learning capabilities, problem-solving, memory and other skills.

This suggests that bilingualism shapes not only language development, but also cognitive development more generally. What about homes where only one language is spoken? This study also showed that even babies from monolingual homes can develop bilingual abilities at a very early age. Naja Ferjan Ramirez investigated how babies could learn a second language outside of the home. “With the right science-based approach that combines the features known to grow children’s language, it is possible to give very young children the opportunity to start learning a second language, with only one hour of play per day in an early education setting,” she said. “This has big implications for how we think about foreign-language learning.” “Science indicates that babies’ brains are the best learning machines ever created, and that infants’ learning is timesensitive. Their brains will never be better at learning a second language than they are between 0 and 3 years of age,” said Patricia Kuhl, UW professor of speech and hearing sciences. The results, Kuhl said, have the potential to transform how early language instruction is approached in the United States and worldwide. What about you? Are you raising bilingual children? Study Shows Raising Bilingual Children Will Make Them Smarter If your child is growing up speaking more than one language, you will be happy to learn about this study that shows an amazing benefit of raising bilingual children.
Both my husband and I are native Spanish speakers so we always “naturally spoke to our kids in our first language. I always knew this was beneficial, but I was so happy to find out about this study that explains why raising bilingual children has amazing advantages. But don’t worry if you are not a bilingual household. Your children can definitely learn a second language outside of the home. And experts agree that the earlier they start learning another language, the better. And raising bilingual children will make them smarter! 14
