Preparing Tomorrow’s Aviation Workforce for Success The Nevada Aviation Careers Initiative has become much more than a mere “initiative,” it has taken the form a fullfledged flight plan! In fact, we’ve designed two programs to coincide with each other during the early part of 2018. The Reno Flight Plan and Truckee Flight Plan will launch in January, featuring four 2-hour sessions for high school and college students interested in pursuing careers in the aviation. Open to students interested in any or all applied manufacturing careers, the program features three monthly sessions combining industry presentations and career readiness workshops. Students will learn about trends, recent developments, employment opportunities, and tips to securing college acceptances and/or new employment.

This program is great for students interested in learning about careers and what's needed to land great jobs. It's even better for students interested in applied manufacturing jobs, as many of the skills translate across industries. And, it's ideal for students driven to pursue aviation industry careers! The careers and mentoring program has received outstanding funding from the ISTAT Foundation, Truckee Tahoe Airport District and ROAA. Their generosity has taken this programs to unforeseen heights
We’re showcasing talent at the Aviation Roundup! Join us on Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8 at Minden-Tahoe Airport for its big Aviation Roundup. We’ll host a booth to promote aviation workforce, career programs for teens, and our K-12 field trip program. Informing and inspiring K-12 students! Our field trip program has a fresh new look. Local airports, aviation businesses, and schools will be the sites of aviation field trips for elementary, middle, and high school students. They’ll also take various forms. They’ll involve classroom instruction, hands-on activities, group tours, and industry introductions. They’ll also involve discussions about trends, advancements, and careers in aviation. Field trip experiences are being coordinated during both the fall and spring semesters. Only a few slots remain for schools to register for field trips during the 2017/2018 school year. We’re currently filling instruction roles in aeronautical engineering, air traffic control, rocketry, unmanned aerial systems, flight, and aerospace technology. Truckee Air Show was a hit! We announced the Truckee Flight Plan at the big July 2017 event at the Truckee Tahoe Airport. We made incredible connections and promoted our K-12 field trip program to countless students. Special thanks to the Truckee Tahoe Airport District for the invitation. We’ll be back in 2018!!!

Have You Heard the Latest??? We worked with the State of Nevada’s Career & Technical Education Department to write new curriculum for high schools in Aviation Technology and Aviation Maintenance! We working with leaders from the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board, Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Truckee Meadows Community College, Washoe County School District, Truckee Tahoe Airport District, Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, Office of Workforce Innovation and others to create opportunities to pursue education and careers in aviation. We’re participating in the Washoe County School District’s Annual Career Day, its STEM Showcase, and its Manufacturing Week. We’re exhibiting at Sierra College’s Career Fair in October.
