Monaco Car Dealership
The Monaco Car Dealership is a dealership for exotic cars. The site of the building is extremely restricting so designing around the site restrictions was paramount. The height of the building slowly rises through a series of five pods to create a visual step down from the adjacent hotel. Since the site is largest on the west edge, a turn around was incorporated as well as a car elevator to bring cars throughout the different levels of the building. The building tapers at a 5-degree angle throughout all pods to create a set back. The building is clad in a scratched stainless steal with black terrazzo floors for reflections and white interior walls. At night the building glows with a blue light to reference its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea. The physical model itself was wired with blue LEDs to show how this lighting would affect the surrounding site.
A tunnel on the west side of the site provides a traffic way to the north of the site.
Traffic only runs one way in front of the building and the building must allow for enough room for a car completely turn around.
Site Plan
4
A service ditch runs through the site so the underground level can only go on a partial part of the site.
The building must allow for cars to pass under the north section. A 16’ clearance from the road base to the underside of the building was required.

This model is of a building in progress by Studio 804 behind Marvin Hall in Lawrence Kansas. The model is made of 61 layers of Plexiglas tied together with aluminum rods and features a powdered coated metal base and surrounding buildings. The model consists of interlocking parts such as trusses, bracing and louvers, all designed to fit together using little to no glue. Although I claim no credit for design of the building I was able to take the building and transform it into a more basic form to create a model that acts as a glowing gem behind Marvin Hall.

Summer Home
In this two-week project we designed a summer home in Monaco for a Play-station client. The site overlooks the greater city of Monaco and is located on a relatively steep cliff face. By creating a grid of steel piers, the building is able to float above the landscape and anchor into the hillside behind. The juxtaposition of a light steel frame holding up a concrete building gives the user a sense of floating over the landscape. The trellis of steel columns creates a cage around the building allowing for framed views. Several patios extend out of the east end of the structure to provide views uninhibited by the columns as well as to provide a place for direct sunlight.

A set variety of parts were used to create a pavilion that would cater to the blind. Given a set of different sized panels, rods, and transparent panels, we aligned these into a design utilizing a datum wall to anchor the project and provide a sense of heaviness to an otherwise light structure. The model focused around the sense of touch as we determined that was the most used sense to determine location for the blind. The design utilizes tiny gaps between platforms to provide a signal when one has moved to a different section of the pavilion. All drawings and renderings were hand drafted.

Congo School House
The river on the east side of the site provides for much of the villages food and all of the village’s water supply.
Site Plan
Open site in front of the building allows for different types of plants and food to be planted to teach children essential skills such as farming. Main roads to the school house as well as the river. This allows easy access and visual cues to the school.
The Congo School House, located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Each building teaches grades first through eighth and contains seating for twenty-four students. The design utilizes local materials such as brick, concrete, and corrugated metal for ease of access and to keep the project materiality similar to the surrounding architecture. The building rests on concrete piers to create a cantilever to give the building occupants a sense of floating over the landscape as well as the river. These concrete piers also create slots that open into the building to allow for cross ventilation and outside views.
Village assembly area for community gatherings.

The Lawrence Public Library Branch resides in downtown Lawrence Kansas. The building is designed to act as a miniature town and is therefore broken into several sections all linked together to form an urban community. The main library consists of the majority of the first and second floors on the right wing. The left wing holds a children’s library, storage and mechanical systems as well as a public museum on the second floor. On the first floor on the right-hand part of the site is a small coffee shop with outdoor seating in an enclosed courtyard. The building itself would be constructed of steel and glass and feature several courtyards. All drawings are hand drafted.

The Emergency Shelter utilizes a Space Frame construction to promote a lightweight design that is easily transportable. Ease of assembly is paramount for this project since the driving idea behind the project was to create a system that would require little assembly time. The structure uses PVC rods that are zip tied together and then covered with a protective Vinyl layer while the front facade features an operable louver system. The design’s wooden floor deck is hollow and is used to store all the PVC and other materials that are used to create the shelter and is also used to ship the structure.

Full Size Model (Photo) The Backyard Canopy is a space frame structure that’s main goal is to act as a shelter in the average person’s home. It is built from conduit pipes which are crimped and then thru-bolted together to create tetrahedrons. Legs are brought down from a roof structure and support the canopy as well as provide a place for a bar-height table. The roof of the canopy is a plastic fabric material that is stretched through different sections of the canopy. The space frame is designed to mesh comfortably with any house style so that it could be created as a mass marketed structure.

Affordable Housing Site Plan

The Affordable Housing Apartment Complex is located in Moore Oklahoma at a site is that was previously devastated by a tornado. The apartment complex is based off renewing the community and features many different courtyards each with a different program. A community room occupies a bridge that overlooks a newly planned park to the south. Each apartment is designed to maximize views to the outside and provide access to public areas. The building features roof top terraces all of which are occupiable. These roof top gardens feature a community gardening area, a restaurant, and area for relaxation. In working with a local firm in Kansas City, NSPJ, we were able to get advice and critique from architects who have designed many different affordable apartments in the Kansas City area. Education Pavilion Road to closest town.
Education Pavilion location. It is located about 50 feet away from the roadway to provide a setback.
The Education Pavilion is a project developed for a group called Maison de Naissance which is located in Haiti. They run a center for birthing which provides care for pregnant women for free. The Pavilion we designed is for educating the public on pregnancy, birth, and any other forum that may become necessary in the future.
Existing birthing center location. Consists of a storage building and an administrative center.
24
The design utilizes a space frame that includes solar lines, electrical conduit, and water pipes. Each system is color coded so that the users of the pavilion are able to see what lines are in relation to what system and then learn about these systems through interaction with the storage bar where the lines terminate. During the process of this project, our team was engaged with an actual client from the Maison de Naissance center and gained experience in working with clients to present designs and design intent.
