figure/ground The relationship between an object and the background.





similarity

Objects or things in a group that have the same characteristics.





proximity The space between objects including or excluding into groups.





closure Natural tendances to see forms inclosed in space.





continuance Perspective in shapes, letters, and objects directing the eye.




translation A repetition of a form horizontally or vertically across a surface.





rotation A form on acentral axis in which our mind follows in a circular motion.





reflection The mirroring of a form from one side to the other horizontaly or vertically.






glide/reflection A form that is mirrored and moved diagonally up or down.




dilation The change of size in objects by a percentage.






symmetric balance A even balance of forms to imply perfect harmony.





asymmetric balance Forms that are visually unbalanced when given a central axis.





ambiguous balance an unclear relation between figures.





neutral balance Randomness in figures missing contrast.
