Block D - Proposed Footprint

Block D4 & D6 - Corner Buildings

The proposal is to square off the previous canted south west corner. This is in order to rationalise the southern frontage, provide a consistent design approach to the way the corner blocks address the piazza and improve the clarity of the built forms within the building as a whole. This geometry also reflects that of the built Block C immediately to the east.

The 2 blocks facing the central square will remain as consented as these blocks form a group with blocks C, F and G that surround the open space. The proposed design of the remainder of block D will be guided by the established building forms and massing.

The form and massing of the east and west link blocks will be designed to provide the transition between that of the established blocks D1 and D2 and the proposed corner blocks addressing Aerodrome Road, for example in their use of bays and recesses to the street frontages.

The position of the corner blocks within the surrounding context affords the opportunity to introduce massing that reflects their gateway locations and to address their south facing aspect.

Linking public spaces

The design of the southern link block will follow this approach in order to provide continuity of this typical Beaufort Park motif along the southern frontage.

Their design will also consider the role they will play in defining the public piazza to their foreground and the new public open space Peel Sqaure on the opposite side of Aerodrome Road

The resultant improved piaza space in the building foreground provides an opportunity to link with the adjacent open public space of Peel Square.
