ONE PASS. ONE MILLION SQUARE FEET TO EXPLORE. Known as World War II’s “Fighting Lady,” 30,000 tons of steel surround the countless heroic tales aboard USS YORKTOWN. If you visit enough, you just might hear or read all of them on the interactive displays found throughout the 888-foot-long aircraft carrier.

On the surface, our biggest role at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is to preserve history. We keep these vessels maintained so their legacy can live on. But, in truth, our mission is much simpler than that: we’re storytellers. We keep the history that happened aboard these ships alive by sharing their tales with you, our favorite guests. As a Friend of the Fleet, there’s no limit to the number of stories you can hear—visit as often as you like. And, just like friends do, you’re helping us keep these stories afloat, ready to be shared for years to come.

We hope to see you soon—and often. –Patriots Point Volunteers

You’ll find one of the world’s best aircraft collections aboard the YORKTOWN, too. Twenty-eight high-flying, sky-dominating fighters and bombers rest here, each with a story of daring bravery simmering inside their cockpit. Climb in and experience the history! Next to the towering YORKTOWN, but certainly not in its shadow, lies “The Ship That Would Not Die.” After surviving a kamikaze attack in 1945 and continuing to serve through the Korean War, USS LAFFEY is WWII’s most decorated destroyer still in existence. As you walk through the destroyer’s living quarters and control rooms, lights, sounds, and holograms bring history to life.

The Vietnam Experience is an expansive three-acre recreation of a Brown Water Navy base and U.S. Marine Corps artillery firebase. More than an homage, this collection of authentic artifacts and larger-than-life displays—including helicopters, a 105 Howitzer gun, an observation tower, and a MK1 River Patrol Boat—are just waiting to be explored. Of course, the price of freedom is a steep one, paid for by brave Americans who have served and protected our country with remarkable courage. We say “thank you” in the Medal of Honor Museum. You’ll find this unique museum aboard the YORKTOWN, where you can read, watch, and listen to stories of remarkable devotion to our country.
