LOOKS MATTER

A new look for Touch Up Guys as franchisees get busy

The Touch Up Guys know how to make everything look better – and now they’ve applied their skills to their own brand. ‘With demand for our services already back to pre-Covid levels, and people spending money on cars and boats rather than overseas travel, our franchisees are getting busier than ever,’ says Martin Smith, the NZ master franchisee.

The popular franchise is a mobile business that repairs vehicles by removing bumper scuffs, stone chips, scratches and other damage. Franchisees service both trade clients (such as car yards and fleet operators) and private customers to increase vehicle values and remove irritating or embarrassing dings.

‘The franchise has been around for nearly 30 years now, so we wanted to refresh our own image and remind people just how much looks matter,’ says Martin. ‘Our bold new image clearly says what we do and emphasises that we come to you, which is a very valuable selling point. And when we are on site, no-one will miss us – after all, neighbouring businesses or homeowners are a valuable source of new clients.’

The internet can’t do this

Martin says that you don’t need panelbeating or painting experience to become a Touch Up Guys franchisee. ‘Our vans are mobile workshops and carry all the equipment you need, including sophisticated colourmatching technology. All you need to bring is attention to detail, an eye for an opportunity and a willingness to put in the hours to meet new clients and exceed their expectations. It’s satisfying and rewarding – some of our franchisees have been with us for over 20 years.’

During that time, New Zealand has been through plenty of ups and downs, but Martin says that this is a business which performs well no matter what the economy is doing. ‘Any vehicle is a big investment and needs to be looked after. Car yards need to keep their stock in good condition, or touch up trade-ins for resale. And because this is a mobile business, you have all the advantages of working from home with no expensive premises. You can’t be put out of business by an Amazon or Uber, either – you can’t do what we do over the internet!’

A complete Touch Up Guys package costs between $88,000 and $120,000 +gst depending on van leasing options. ‘This includes an exclusive territory, all the equipment you need, and a three-week trainingcourse followed by on-site support,’ Martin says.

‘We have new areas available around the country, plus some established businesses as longterm franchisees look to retire. Call me today to find out more about the new-look Touch Up Guys.’
