WE WALK IN YOUR SHOES
SBA Small Business Accounting understands your business – it’s a franchise, too
Over 1000 franchised businesses around the country are already using their local SBA office to help them manage their accounting and grow their businesses. And with 80 franchisees around the country, there’s sure to be an SBA branch close to you.
‘We get franchising because we’re a franchise ourselves,’ explains Craig Gardiner, the CEO of SBA NZ. ‘All of our franchisees have had to go through their own journey in buying into SBA – they had to evaluate the opportunity, do the due diligence and then make the big decision. Once in, they had to go through training and learn the tools and systems which help them deliver first-class accounting services.
‘So they have all walked in your shoes – and who better to support you in your own journey than an SBA franchisee? Buying a franchise is a big step and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. SBA will help you make the right choice from the very start.’
Deciding your future
‘The best piece of advice for anyone considering buying a franchise is to have it evaluated by a professional,’ says Craig. ‘We see far too many people who have gone into a new business without properly looking at the numbers. and that makes it much harder for them down the track.
‘You need to find out how profitable it needs to be to break even; how much you need to invest up front; and what working capital you’ll need both initially and during the first year or two to meet your obligations, rent, power, internet, wages etc.
‘We can provide you with a pre-purchase report that will look at the numbers for any new or existing franchise to see if it really will work for you. This is also valuable when looking to apply to a bank for funding – having a properly-prepared business plan and cashflow forecast will also greatly improve your chances of getting finance, a loan or an overdraft facility.
‘Once you have a clear picture of the finances required and the support and resources available, you can move forward with your business venture with peace of mind and the confidence that you have the right advisors around you to make your franchise business a success.’
Ongoing advice
But it’s not just about buying a franchise. ‘Once you’ve been successful in purchasing a franchise, SBA will help you set up the financial structure, assist with GST and monthly bookwork, and prepare and file all the tax with the IRD,’ Craig explains.
‘SBA also helps with advisory services to help your franchise grow with business planning, cashflow forecasting and budgeting. The aim of SBA is not just to keep the business owner on track and meeting their obligations, but to help them understand and stay in control of their business so it can deliver the best possible results.’
Cartridge World franchisee David Rundle says, ‘SBA are great – they help me keep all my accounting on track, and have helped me to grow my franchise. They are easy to communicate with, and I love that they are local and I can talk to them when I need.’
Truly local support
With branches from Warkworth to Invercargill, there’s an SBA in most neighbourhoods. Not only does that mean individual franchisees can develop a relationship with a truly local advisor; it’s also great for franchisors who want a trusted accounting partner throughout New Zealand.
‘Because we are a franchise and really understand what franchisees and franchisors want, SBA can add enormous value to a network.
‘We already work with a large number of individual franchisees from brands such as Crewcut, Subway, Jim’s Mowing, Muffin Break, Ray White, CrestClean and Cartridge World, to name just a few.
‘So if you are thinking of buying a franchise or you are a franchisee already and would like ongoing accounting help, get in touch with your local SBA Small Business Accounting team at www.sba.co.nz/franchise-accounting.
