Paul A. Vander Waerdt

United States

For the past eighteen years, Paul A. Vander Waerdt has been a planning and development consultant in San Francisco. He helps agencies analyze their market niche, define their organizational future, develop effective interventions, and secure the resources to thrive. Born in South Dakota in March 1963, Vander Waerdt was educated at Stanford University, Christ’s College, Cambridge, and Princeton University, where he received his doctorate. During his twenties, he taught classics and philosophy at Duke University, won several research awards and published major studies on Socrates and his Hellenistic heirs, Epicureanism, Stoic natural law theory, and Roman jurisprudence. Vander Waerdt’s paternal ancestors (Hapologroup R1b1c) included early Cro-Magnon settlers of Europe who, over a fifteen-thousand year period, drove our larger-brained Neanderthal cousins to their final stand at the cliffs and caves of Gibraltar, where they survived another 4,000 years before finally going extinct c. 24,000 BCE.
