In 1585, Queen Elizabeth I tries to estabilish a permanent English settlement on Roanoke Island (today known as Dare County, North Carolina). Three years after the first attempt the settles disappeared, leaving just one note: “Gone to Croatan.�
Croatan was a friendly indian village nearby. The settles decided to leave everything behind - government, expectations, society just to live the same life indians lived.
