Christ Church Cooks - What is it? This is a new and exciting “food ministry” at Christ Church. We will be gathering once a month in the Harrison Center to prepare meals that will be frozen and made available for anyone in NEED. By need we mean someone or a family that is experiencing a lifestyle change, such as a new baby, an illness, a death, etc. The food will be kept in the freezer over at the Harrison Center, and we hope to have a few in our parish house freezer as well. There will be a check out sheet that will include the name of the person taking the food item as well as the name to whom you are taking the food and the date. It is vital that you put this info on this sheet.
This past Monday 12 parishioners showed up for the first cooking and made macaroni and cheese and cole slaw that can be frozen. On August28th, they will be meeting again at 9:00am in the Harrison Center to cook ground beef and macaroni casserole and gazpacho. If you would like to help please join them on Monday and if you have any questions please contact Judi Dorn or Ellen Chance. After Monday the next monthly meeting will be Monday September 18th.
Growing in Grace 2017 - 2018 School Year We are so excited about beginning a new school year with our Growing in Grace children. We are hoping to get some donated items to get our year rolling. The Diocesan Event yOUThREACH is being hosted here at Christ Church on September 16th. It is a one day event open to Middle and High School Students. Last year, we worked with Interfaith Refugee Ministries and this year we will be working with Sound Rivers to do local outreach in Craven County. Registration forms are available and need to be back to Ashley Simpson by September 10th.

VEGETABLE DISHES NEEDED FOR PRISON FAMILY PICNIC– SEPT. 16TH. The Annual Family Picnic at the Carteret Correctional Center in Newport gives inmates an opportunity for a fun time with children and family. Cooked vegetable dishes and casseroles are needed for this event, such as corn, collards, cabbage, and macaroni and cheese. If you can help, please contact C. B. Evans at 252-638-1343
Christ Church has many members who are unable to drive themselves to church on Sunday. We also now have a van that could bring many of these people to and from church. All we need are drivers and coordinators to spend some time on Sunday morning transporting these members. If you might be called to minister in this way, please contact the Rev. ESL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Although Interfaith Refugee Ministry has not had any new arrivals lately, we are still serving those refugees who are here. One of our needs is for ESL tutors. A Word of Thanks If you visit the church Monday through Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., you will notice parishioners sitting in the narthex or ushering people around the church. These volunteers are members of the Christ Church docent guild. Their single purpose is to conduct tours of our beautiful church and to give those attending an experience that is informative, friendly and welcoming. The tours are free to the public but we do have a donation box available for those who would like to leave something. So far this year we have collected $920.00 from visiting tours. The church staff would like to say Thanks to everyone that volunteers for this important ministry. To those parishioners that would like to find out more about this wonderful church, feel free to join a tour sometime. It will not be time wasted.
