jewelry designs The following sketches are the result of different projects that were either assigned at GIA or designed for clients. Some of them are conceptual inspirations from different periods such as the Art Nouveau movement, Edwardian Era and Art Deco styles. Also, different different jewelry types are illustrated such as necklace sets, bracelets, rings, tiaras, pendants and earrings.

01

Signature Pieces NECKLACE SETS & COCKTAIL RINGS

The elegant choker necklace along with the cocktail rings are designed to be mounted with blue, yellow and pink sapphires. The choice of pale palette and the width of the choker is a typical of 1990s style with a modern twist.

Green emerald engagement ring with a twisted white gold shank of melees. Perfectly matched with this fancy diamond and emerald necklace set.

Inspirations Holly

From “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” Actress Audrey Hepburn was one of the two women who wore the Jean Schlumberger creation set with 128.54 carat for the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, 1961. The Tiffany Yellow Diamond is one of the largest yellow diamonds ever discovered.

The sketch of the large yellow diamond necklace set with round brilliants is inspired from Breakfast at Tiffany’s “Holly Golightly” and the featured jewelry piece at Tiffany & Co store in New York.

Belle

From “Beauty and the Best” A picture of the “Enchanted Rose” from the remake of the fairytale movie Beauty and the Beast, 2017

The fancy cut chalcedony necklace is inspired by Beauty and the Beast’s “Belle” meaning beautiful, and the petals of the “Enchanted Rose” which symbolize love and time.

Bangle Nature inspired yellow and white gold bangle, featuring princess cut peridots and round brilliant diamonds is inspired by the Art Nouveau movement of curved lines and natural motifs.

Link Bracelet This white diamonds and natural pearls bracelet is inspired from the Edwardian Era of large stones, repeating motifs, elongated forms, and links in the new more refined style.

Ocean inspired earring with a central white opal with freshwater pearls and moonstone cabs flushed around it.

Bridal Accessories

Aquamarine briolette drops on this white gold necklace wrapped around the neck are like drops in the ocean. A halo of glistening diamonds on the entire piece add the overal beauty to this necklace

This white gold tiara with diamonds and matching earrings, the briolette necklace set and the heart-shaped engagement ring with its twin set is every bride’s dream on their wedding day.

jewelry collections Paulina Zak jewelry collections are the legacy of Zakarian Jewelry’s tradition in craftsmanship with a trendy and modern twist. Most of these unique 18k gold jewelry pieces are designed with colored stones giving the gold standard a modern update.

02

the invisible

The Invisible collection is handcrafted from 18k yellow/rose gold and natural cabochons such as Black Onyx, Agate, Lapis Lazuli, Jade, Tiger Eye and Rose Quartz. The ring is made of 2 flat loops, one being bigger than the other and connected by a shank. The smaller loop is also a bezel setting to the stone in the center. When worn on the finger, the ring looks like it has an “invisible” shank since it look like it’s floating on the finger. It can be worn as a stand-alone piece or matched with its pendant which also floats on the neckline.

the choker

The Choker Collection has 2 different styles. Some are made of black and brown velvet leather strip strung with a circular 18k gold pendant with a fancy cut vibrant gem giving it more of a casual look. The other choker style is made of black snake-skin leather strip with 18k gold pendant hung in either same type of gem or natural stones like agate and onyx giving it more of a classy night out look. The gemstones are customized according to the clients’ desire.

the fancy

The Fancy Collection is designed to be mixed and matched for various different color combinations. These 18k gold sizable cocktail rings are set with fancy cut lab created gems and framed with white cubic zirconia or black spinels. These statement pieces can be worn solo or matched with their heart shaped or tassel pendants.

june The June Collection is created from the lucky birthstones of the month, June. Pearl, represents purity, is the most traditional gem for this month, while Moonstone brings hope and enhances feminine energies. The pearl choker on the cover is crafted from fine chains of 18k gold and is detailed with a central hoop that is embelished with creamy white freshwater pearls. The cross is set with six moonstone cabochons selected for their uniform translucent whiteness that stands out against the rich gold setting. The transparency of the stones have a bluish iridescence that makes the stones glow. The flat round bead shows the natural shimmer which makes the mother-of-pearl such a feminine and classy material for a necklace. It is supported by two 18k gold strips and hung on a delicate gold chain necklace.

architecture & design The following architectural projects fall into 3 categories: built projects, academic projects and competitions. The built projects are both luxury retail stores that opened in July 2018, while the academic project was done during the last academic year of Lebanese American University. Zakarian Jewelry LUXURY JEWELRY STORE PROJECT TYPE: RETAIL DESIGN DATE:

JAN-JULY 2018

LOCATION:

BURJ HAMMOUD, LEBANON

CONCEPT: Zakarian Jewelry is located in heart of the jewelry souk in Bourj Hammoud. It’s on the main Armenia Street where pedestrians can enjoy jewelry shopping and browsing. The main facade of the store is only 2.5m in width and 5.5m in height which divides into two stories. The challenge of the project was to be able to create an appealing facade by keeping its width and working with its linearity and verticality making the entrance more inviting to the customers. That’s how the concept was developed and applied on the entire project. The furniture, lighting and even the openings followed this concept of linearity and continuance. The color palette of white and shades of grey made the store look more spacious, along with addition of mirrors and lighting. The main entrance to the shop is from the middle of the facade making it more welcoming, and surrounded by jewelry displays on each side. The back entrance is for the staff and laborers which leads to the second story where the manufacturing atelier is.

Guy Laroche LUXURY MENSWEAR STORE PROJECT TYPE: RETAIL DESIGN DATE:

MAR-JULY 2018

LOCATION:

ZALKA, LEBANON

CONCEPT: Guy Laroche was a French fashion designer and founder of the eponymous company. Laroche began his career in millinery and worked for Jean Dessès, eventually becoming his assistant. In 1955, he visited the U.S. to investigate new ready-to-wear manufacturing methods. In 1957, he founded a high-fashion atelier at 37 avenue Franklin Roosevelt, Paris. Its main location today is in the Golden Triangle, close to Avenue Montaigne and the Champs Elysées at 35. Guy Laroche launched their ever first store in Zalka, Lebanon on July 2018. Its location is right in the center of the souk of Zalka. The store’s concept remains within the same identity of Guy Laroche using bold colors and minimal furniture but in a more contemporary way.

Floating Theatre 9TH OISTAT THEATRE ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION 2015 PROJECT TYPE: ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION DATE:

SPRING 2015

LOCATION:

HOLZMARKT, BERLIN, GERMANY

COMPETITION BRIEF: The OISTAT Competition (International Organisation of Scenographers, Technicians and Theatre Architects) is an international competition organized every 4 years and aimed at students and practitioners. The theme for the competition was to design a floating theatre at a particular location on the river Spree in Berlin, but capable of being moved to other sites on the river when required. The theatre will provide a performance space for an audience of 200-300 people and backstage accommodation for a cast of no more than 20 performers. Facilities for the audience should be located on the land to be temporary and easily moved to another location. CONCEPT & ANALYSIS: The analysis was derived from understanding the site conditions, and the circulation of the people in this area known as the Holzmarkt. The objective was not only to drag people inside the project, but to create an architectural landmark and a theatrical facility that adds value to the area by creating enjoyable theatrical performances on the shore of the river Spree. The concept emerged by the thought of the river being a constant flow, inspired by the characteristics of the Mรถbius Strip which developed into having one element that envelopes all the functions, creating a light structure that cantilevers above the river and offers one dynamic element that defines the volume of the project.

Food & Wellness Club YOUNG ARCHITECTS COMPETITION 2015 PROJECT TYPE: ADAPTIVE REUSE DATE:

SPRING 2015

LOCATION:

BOLOGNA, ITALY

COMPETITION BRIEF: The Food & Wellness Club’s aim is to offer a wellness area for those visitors who are willing to discover both nutrition and body care. The challenge was to blend architecture, food, relax, wellness and seasonality. Moreover, the aim was to build a contemporary, ecofriendly design and a notable piece of architecture capable of offering a multisensory, unique experience to its users.

CONCEPT & ANALYSIS: Since the site is located in an industrial zone, the project is surrounded by heavy concrete walls which are almost like barriers between the road and the project to insure privacy for the users. Thus, the project is secluded from the noise pollution and offers serenity and the waterfall fences also guarantee the noise buffer from the industrial context and provide a soothing water sounds instead.
