Finding Joy Day One

Day One

I thirst.

O Lord, I have approached so many different wells to quench my thirst for love and union, yet nothing has satisfied my longing. But today you are here waiting for me. You express your thirst: you are thirsty for me. You ask, “Give me a drink…. Come and I will refresh you…. If you only knew who it is that asks you for a drink….”

Lord, your desire is for me. I leave behind me all my past. Your gaze is not concerned with my faults and sins. You are the Savior of the world, who speaks with me. Your Heart is bursting with love for me. You are the wellspring of life, causing living water to spring up from my arid heart.

We bring gifts to one another: I give to you my nothingness, and you, Savior of the world, pour out your gifts into my lap—pressed down, shaken together, overflowing. You are total outpouring and self-giving. My open hands receive the living water which is you, Jesus, and I freely allow you to flow out to others.

I have drunk from the fountain of your love—becoming, in my turn, an instrument for others to receive this living water. You are the source. In your ardent love, Master, Lord and Spouse of my soul, you have revealed yourself to me. To all who are thirsty, you say, “I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.” (Rev 21:6 NRSV) “Let everyone who is thirsty come!” (Rev 22: 17, NRSV)
