Teaching Resources/Children & Youth

From music and movies to advertising and the Internet, our everyday lives are filled with the sights and sounds of media. Whether you’re a catechist, teacher, or parent, Our Media World: Teaching Kids K–8 about Faith and Media will provide you with an exciting and engaging strategy for introducing your students to the principles of media mindfulness. Integrating media literacy skills and the values of our Catholic faith, Our Media World will give you the tools you and your students need to make wise media choices and to effectively engage the media from a Gospel perspective. “This wonderfully accessible resource will help to boost the confidence of those adults who occasionally feel overwhelmed with the evolution of free-flowing, ever-evolving media that shape our lives and the lives of the young in our care.” — Father David Loftus Consultant/Coordinator, Adult Education and Catechist Formation, Archdiocese of Los Angeles

“Our Media World is a must-have for any teacher of religion or catechism who wishes to follow the ideals of the Church in helping children learn about the mass-mediated world that is so much a part of their lives. Well organized and very practical—with handouts, references, contacts—Our Media World will open the eyes of children to another world: the wonderful world that is media literacy.” — John J. Pungente, SJ Director, The Jesuit Communication Project, Toronto, Ontario, and President, Canadian Association for Media Education Organizations (CAMEO), Toronto, Ontario

“Our Media World is a concise, practical, and timely media/catechetical resource for the twenty-first century. The Catholic perspective is woven into a tapestry of creative ideas, techniques, and sound principles, offering an excellent guide for catechists, parents, and Catholic school educators. This needs to be a required supplement for catechist formation today.” — Angela Ann Zukowski, MHSH, D.Min. University of Dayton
