Site Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL Critic: Prof. Philippe d’Anjou - Spring 2009 Programs Used: CAD, Rhino, 3ds-Max, Photoshop, Illustrator Building Program: An extension to the FAU campus, including classrooms, offices, apartments, retail, dining, a venue/gallery, gym and child care

Project Description:

The goal for the Student Union & Activity Center was to design a building that could be considered a sculptural element within the city of Fort Lauderdale. A structural system was designed by intersecting two triangles (the sculpture) and after analysing the contextual relationships between the site and its surroundings, and the views from the site to the park and the school’s courtyard, the orientation and design of the two large structural triangles was formed.

Site Location: Miami, FL (Across from American Airlines Arena) Critic: Prof. Leo Hansen - Summer 2010 Programs Used: CAD, Rhino, V-Ray, Photoshop Building Program: A lobby, restaurant, cafe, offices, gift shop, gallery, venue space, small theatre, children’s area, multi-use space to display educational information and loading dock

Project Description:

The visitor center is a place where people can come and learn about Miami and its vibrant culture. The project site is shared by the Freedom Tower and Florida East Coast Railway located to the south. These historical structures were taken into consideration when deriving a concept for the center, the historical structures representing the past of the city, and the visitor center representing the present and future in a spatial manner. Circulation throughout the center, and viewpoints toward Bicentennial Park (the future) and the Freedom Tower (the past) further represents the design concept of the center.

Project Description:

The purpose of this program was to design a series of green spaces that will be dedicated to public botanical and butterfly gardens that will become a link for pedestrians when walking from the Light Rail Station to proposed spaces such as a library and a large visitor center. A pedestrian bridge was designed to link Parkland and Coconut Creek. The purpose was to create walkable circulation path- ways for pedestrians encouraging them to use means other than the automobile.

Site Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL Critic: Prof. Fennic - Fall 2009 Programs Used: CAD, SketchUp, V-Ray, Photoshop Building Program: A main performance stage with rehearsal rooms, sound booth, dressing rooms, residential spaces, dining area, retail spaces, offices and a gallery

Project Description:

The concept for the dance theatre was to design an open ground floor plan with the main theatre elevated off the ground, allowing for views from across the water to the gallery space and restaurant. Another concept was to have the rehearsal space as the most prominent space, elevated off the ground and overlooking the water where the public could view dancers while they have rehearsals.
