For these first two images, I placed a Yongnuo 560 hot shoe flash set at about ¼ power into a 28in Westcott Apollo Softbox. I placed the flash in the softbox on camera left at a 45-‐degree angle to my subject and slightly above my shoulder. To camera right I used a medium silver reflector disk to kick light back onto my subject on her left side, or camera right. Additionally I utilized a small fan to give a natural flow to the subject’s hair. My camera settings for both images were 1/250th of a second shutter speed and f5.3. Both images were shot at ISO 100 with a 63mm focal length.

For the following two images I shot with a much more dramatic setup in mind. I simply placed one Yongnuo 560 hot shoe flash into a Westcott 28in Apollo Softbox. The flash was set to 1/4 power and fired at a direct profile to the subject on camera left. The camera setting for the first image was 1/250th of a second shutter speed at f7.1. ISO was set to 200 and the focal length of 35mm. The second image was shot at 1/250th of a second shutter speed at f11. ISO was 200 with a 35mm focal length.

For these final images were shot with light reflection in mind. I had the subject lay on top of a reflector. Suspended above the subject is an Alien Bee B800 in the Westcott 28in Apollo Softbox at 1/32nd power. For both images the camera was placed between the softbox and the subject. The camera was set at f5.6 at 1/200th of a second shutter speed at ISO 200 with a 35mm focal length.
