WHAT IS SUMMER OF SERVICE? Summer of Service (SOS) is an annual volunteer program of De La SalleCollege of Saint Benilde. It is both a service and a learning-oriented volunteer program.

SERVICE ORIENTED.

LEARNING-ORIENTED.

Volunteers conduct various community service works at the grassroots level. Volunteers are deployed in different parts of the Philippines to conduct:

Volunteers develop a deeper understanding of social realities through immersion in communities. They live with foster families in the areas for the duration of their volunteer deployment. They also participate in various community activities, such as community celebrations and rituals.

• Tutorials of various subjects such as Math, English, Science • Workshops such as dance, visual arts, theatre arts, music • Trainings on leadership, culinary arts, computer literacy, Filipino sign language • Sports clinic such as volleyball, basketball and taekwondo

SOS is open to all Benildeans who wish to serve through their talents and skills deepening their understanding of social issues. It is implemented by the Center for Social Action since 1993.


SOS Process

HOW TO BE AN SOS VOLUNTEER?

Step 1 Volunteer Application To join the SOS, applicants must fill up the SOS application form and submit it before the deadline. Upon submission, applicants need to schedule their panel interview and facilitation demo with CSA.

Step 2 Panel Interview and Facilitation Demo Applicants are expected toundergo a panel interview with CSA Coordinators and conduct a 5- minute facilitation demo of your preferred topic.

Step 3 Volunteer Selection If selected, CSA will e-mail the applicant of their volunteer assignment, deployment area and volunteer team. Once the applicant accepts the volunteer position, she/he is now officially an SOS volunteer.

Step 4 Volunteer Preparation and Formation To prepare the SOS volunteers to be effective an effective volunteer and for the challenges that they will face as an SOS volunteer, they are required to undergo ALL trainings and formation activities. These trainings and formation activities are: o General Assembly of SOS Volunteers o Basic Orientation Seminar o Skills Training and Team Planning o Send off Ceremony *Failure to attend these training means that the volunteer forfeits their volunteer position

Step 5 Volunteer Deployment After the trainings and preparations, volunteers will be deployed in their area of assignment. Volunteers are expected to fulfill their tasks effectively and represent DLSCSB in a positive light. School policies and rules still apply while in the area.

Step 6 CrossRoads After two weeks of intense volunteer work, volunteers are required to report and evaluate all aspects of the evaluation process during the CrossRoads. By the end of the CrossRoads, CSA will award the Certificates to the volunteers.
