A one of its kind study on the positive effects of regular walking or jogging revealed some amazing facts. It was found that regular walks can prevent physical disabilities associated with old age. The study was aimed to highlight the importance of walking and running among elderly people of our society. We know that exercising and getting involved in some kind of physical activity is a good and healthy habit. Thanks to this study, we now know that it can also help us in the later years of our lives. The possibility of partial or physical disability is greatest in old age due to the fact that our bones, muscles and senses become weak. However we can lessen the affects of old age by engaging ourselves in exercises and physical activities. The best and the easiest ways are to adopt regular walking, jogging or running. You may have seen people in their old age look fresh and active. This is probably due to the fact that they exercise regularly. Older people can significantly enhance their muscle and bone strength by exercising regularly. For this experiment around 1600 people, both men and women were chosen. Since the experiment aimed to bring out importance of exercising and walking for aged people, all of the volunteers chosen were of ages 70 and above. All of the volunteers were divided into two categories that is, an exercise group and an educational group.
People who were in the educational group had to visit the research center every 30 days where they were taught about the benefits of health care and nutrition. However the second group was not only taught about exercising and physical activities, they were also made to follow some light exercising such as weight training and walks. The duration of the activities gradually increased. Biannually the data of all the participants was collected and was evaluated till 2 and half years. This was the first an experiment was being carried out of this length. The experiment concluded with results being favorable for those who were in the exercising group. Participants who were in educational group experience more disabilities as compared to those who were in the exercise group. The study concluded that keeping yourself fit and healthy and engaging in healthy activities is not only important in youth but it will also help you to stay fresh and young in the old age.
