State administrative offices in Nantes
This building is intended to host state services and is part of a dual perspective: to offer new working conditions to users and to demonstrate environmental leadership through an urban and landscape project that transforms the island of Nantes. It is from this overall view that we have built our project. As designers, the awareness of the need to act for the climate leads us to think of the architecture of the building as the translation of a substantial evolution in the tertiary sector.

The lower part of the building is a unified R+3 building whose general morphology is that of a courtyard building, a distinctly urban feature that offers the richness of a protected and peaceful inside through two vast planted courtyards. In the superstructure, two «blocks» in R+5 and R+7 emerge, the tallest being located at the alignment to form a monumental anchor of the building on the public space and to introduce the verticality of neighboring buildings. This strategy of alternating heights generously allows light to pass through the heart of the block, thus offering a quality of sunshine necessary for both urban voids and interior spaces. The roofs are valued and offer a «suspended garden» located at mid-height and accessible to all users, whose vegetal crown benefits both the public space and neighboring homes.
