Extension of the Departmental Archives in Vannes

The construction of the extension of the Departemental Archives in Vannes must meet multiple challenges that we address in detail in the architectural and technical specifications. Considering the question of the unity and coherence of the building’s silhouette as an essential objective, we chose to amplify and strengthen the original layout. By extending the size of the storage areas, we affirm the unity of the institution and the coherence of its development over time. This principle allows for the placement of a set of 10 large-capacity archive storage areas on levels 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3 in continuity with the existing 20 storage areas, thus creating a homogeneous functional ensemble. On level 2, as requested by the program, we place the special storage areas and the relaxation area, which benefits from a sheltered and sunny terrace. At this level, the existing link bridge is duplicated in order to connect an ensemble of existing offices on the south facade, which is currently cut off from personal circulation. The parking area is located in place of the existing parking and is sheltered under pilotis.
