“AND THEY CONTINUED”
MAY/JUNE 2023
From the Desk of the Presiding Bishop
Bishop Theodore L. Brooks, Sr.
Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc.
Greetings in the wonderful Name of Jesus Christ, Mother L. Janice Brooks and I greet you in the wonderful Name of Jesus and with great love! We continue to thank God for His keeping and preserving power, His faithfulness towards us, His kindness towards us, and His great love. In this issue of the Christian Outlook, I wanted to take a few moments to celebrate and honor our fathers, mothers and those who have stood as parental figures in the lives of each of us. We celebrate and honor those who loved us, cared for us, supported us, taught us, celebrated us, and nurtured us in life. I cherish the memory of my parents, the honorable Bishop George H. and Mother Nellie Brooks. I miss them every day, and find myself thinking about all of who they were and all that they did to raise and support nine children often—particularly as I am later in life with my own children, grandchildren and now, great-grandchildren. My parents left me a rich legacy, reared me in the fear and love of the Lord, and loved me even when I strayed away. It was the love of my mother that kept me covered in prayer, and it was the lessons of my father that helped me to learn and grow as I came into my own in ministry. As so many of our fathers and mothers in the faith, great generals on international stages and our powerhouse storefront leaders, are called home to be with the Lord, it is my prayer that we honor those whom we have left with us, and remember those who have already gone on. I cannot forget, of course, those who may never have had natural children, but who cultivated and poured endless love and leadership in the lives of those around them. We celebrate and honor you too! Your impact is just as valuable, and we would not be who we are without those who stood in the gap as mother and father figures for us. Additionally, it is our prayer that we will see you this summer at the 2023 Summer Convention of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. We have a powerful line up of speakers, empowering and equipping day sessions, workshops, social opportunities and more all prayerfully designed to build us all as believers and strengthen our bonds with each other. Please visit our website at www.pawinc.org for all things PAW Summer Convention, and I hope to see you in St. Louis, MO July 16-22, 2023. Lady Brooks and I love you dearly and we are praying for you!

This is an excellent daily devotional material that relates to the lessons for Sunday School. The Adult Daily Devotional enables readers to read and meditate daily for a clearer understanding of the weekly lesson on God’s Word. For people who do not have a daily devotional plan, this is a good way to start.

MAY/JUNE 2023
FROM THE EDITOR Evangelist Neechy Dumas
Welcome to the May/June 2023 Edition of The Christian Outlook Magazine! Happy Mother’s and Father’s Day. It is my pleasure to celebrate and honor our fathers and mothers, and other men and women whose love and hard work have shaped and enriched our lives and helped fortify our faith. I hope we all take a moment today to reflect upon the people in our lives whose names we know, whose stories we share, and whose influence we have felt. It is also my pleasure to celebrate and honor our Presiding Prelate, Bishop Theodore L. Brooks Sr., and Lady L. Janice Brooks for their unwavering support, love and prayers for our organization and for this publication. We all are truly blessed to have them as examples in our lives. I’d also like to share my heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors and contributors who have generously supported our Adopt-A-Soul prison ministry. Your support has enabled us to continue our mission of spreading hope to those who are incarcerated and your contributions have helped us provide muchneeded Christian resources, such as Bibles, The Christian Outlook, and devotionals to those who need them most. We are truly grateful for your commitment and the impact it has made in the lives of many. We are also grateful for our numerous volunteers who have committed their time and talent to support our ministry. To all our volunteers, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Together, we have helped change the lives of thousands of inmates for Christ. Your generosity and dedication have made a lasting impact in the lives of inmates across this country. Please continue to pray for our ministry, staff, and volunteers as we continue to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and share the love of Christ with those that are incarcerated. THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
The Bible speaks of a new season as a time of beginnings; a time of rest and refreshment. This is the perfect opportunity to seek God for guidance and direction. The Psalmist David is so very wise in his description of this time of being revived. In Psalm 104:22 he says, “Blessed is the man whose strength is in you, whose heart takes courage, and whose mind is steadfast, because he does not fear bad news.” When we are revived, we are able to move forward confidently in His plan and purpose for our lives. David encourages us to stay grounded in the Lord, do not fall away to fear or instability and to stay strong during this time of restoration, rest and refreshment. In this edition of the magazine, Suffragan Bishop Harold Rayford reminds us of the importance of prayer, Sister Cynthia Owens takes us into spring in her plant article, Deacon Fabian Smith shares with us the importance of creating generational wealth, and our auxiliaries have enlightened us on what’s to come at the 2023 Convention in St. Louis. And, it is my hope that, as you flip through the pages of this magazine, that you are renewed in your love for the Lord, given rest from the pressures of life and encouraged to press on and do the work God has planned for you to do. Blessings, Evang. Neechy Marketing & Publications Director @Neechy | www.Neechy.com

COVER STORY
Written By: Suffragan Bishop LaVelton J. Daniel, Senior Servant Pastor Pastor Patricia A. Daniel, Senior In House Pastor Sis. Carol D. Wade, Official Board Trustee
On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, a long-awaited dream became a reality. Bishop Paul A. Bowers was posthumously recognized in a formal ceremony for his life-long contributions to the Kingdom and the Community of Cincinnati, OH. Members of the Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple Official Board, several congregants and a host of the Bowers Family members gathered at the Cincinnati Springfield Township City Hall for the historic presentation of the new street sign, “BISHOP PAUL A. BOWERS WAY”. Overwhelming emotions were felt and shown as we remembered our Celebrated Apostolic Father’s legacy and sacrifice. The immediate family members, Suffragan Bishop LaVelton Daniel (who worked tirelessly to get this accomplished with special intervention from Community Champion Reverend Angelo C. Brice), Pastor Patricia Bowers Daniel, Mrs. Paula Bowers Whitehead, District Elder Pamela Bowers Mitchell and husband, Deacon Mark Mitchell humbly accepted the official Street Signing Presentation. The Celebration continued Wednesday, February 15, 2023, with the “Official Unveiling” of the street sign. Amid winter, God blessed this occasion with a beautiful sunny warm day as representatives from the Springfield Township Trustees, other special guests, including neighborhood ministries, former and present Greater Emanuel church family members, including former First Lady, Rebecca White and daughter, Attorney Michelle Howard, and our Ohio State Diocesan, Bishop James W. Gaiters Sr., and Lady Marcia Gaiters gathered in attendance. Bishop Gaiters offered the Prayer of Dedication. With great anticipation, excitement, and songs of praise, the street sign was unveiled. It is official, a portion of Galbraith Road where our church, Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple resides is now named the “BISHOP PAUL A. BOWERS WAY”!

“AND THEY CONTINUED”
MAY/JUNE 2023
It is important to note that we requested the street sign to be called the “BISHOP PAUL A. BOWERS BLVD”. We were informed that the sign would be placed underneath another street that intersects with Galbraith Road making it difficult to see. However, as God would have it, and to our surprise and delight, the sign was prominently placed on Galbraith Road facing our church. Suffragan Bishop Daniel stated, “God changed it because Bishop Bowers did have a WAY!” It is a monumental tribute to the memory of our Celebrated Apostolic Father, to have a portion of the street, where our church has been located for over 40 years, renamed in his honor. After the unveiling, a Scholarship Luncheon was held recognizing his dedication to education. Former Deborah A. Dade scholarship recipients attended and gave inspiring testimonies of how the scholarship made a difference in their continuing education. We were blessed to have special musical guests, including the music ministry of Trustee John Thomas, Sis. April Clemons, Bro. LaVelton Daniel, II and Pastor Audras Nixon. District Elder Pamela Bowers Mitchell, the youngest daughter, was our keynote speaker and she gave an anointed personal testimony of God’s help and delivered a powerful Word of Hope.
THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
The Legacy still continues! Additionally, the Cincinnati City Council honored Bishop Bowers during Black History Month, for his outstanding contribution not only to the Finneytown Community of Springfield Township where the church resides, but also to the City of Cincinnati where he taught in the Cincinnati Public School System, and pastored for over 56 years. On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, Pastor Patricia Daniel, along with her daughter, Principal LaVaugn Neal, son, Bro. LaVincent Daniel, spiritual son, Elder Denzeil Tubbs, and several parishioners attended the recognition Ceremony. Councilman Scotty Johnson, Mayor Aftab Pureval, along with the members of City Council, presented the Bowers Family with the Proclamation, honoring the life and legacy of a great man of God, the honorable Bishop Paul A. Bowers. To God Be the Glory for a life well lived! And the Legacy continues.

PRAYER
PRAYER THAT CREATES
CHANGE 2
Part
By Suffragan Bishop Harold Rayford
D
Living a PRAYERFUL life. Praying like a WARRIOR. James 5:13-16
ictionary.com defines a warrior as “a person engaged or experienced in warfare; soldier” The definition suggests that the only way to become a warrior is to experience (firsthand) the extreme hostilities of a battle. All warriors have one thing in common they were there! They fought the battles, walked the hills, felt the heat, and smelled the smoke endured! They lived the struggle and survived to tell about it.
of their association with the Warriors of their youth.
As a young boy, I remember a group of ladies that were very active in my home church. These were ladies that varied in age and spiritual experience. They were known simply as “The Progressive Workers”. Within this group were senior mothers, with known reputations for being able to get a prayer though to God. There were also a group of ladies that were young mothers, who were simply willing workers. Today, most of the older church mothers have gone on to be with the Lord. Ironically, those young mothers are now the pillars and Prayer Warriors of today.
Let’s establish a working definition of a Prayer Warrior. Not a glamorous definition of a super-spiritual saint, but a real-life interceder.
They are Prayer Warriors, not only because of the battles they fought, but as an indirect result
12 THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
In this lesson, we are going to learn, indirectly, how to become Prayer Warriors. This lesson is essential because, if you are not already in a battle one is on the way. This lesson will teach us a few theories on fine-tuning our prayers for more effective and decisive victories. What is a Prayer Warrior?
Prayer warriors are people who are known for regularly interceding on behalf of others before God. To intercede means to come between, so prayer warriors are, in effect, coming between God and the trouble in another person’s life. Prayer warriors are like defense attorneys, appealing to the Higher Court on behalf of their defendants. Prayer warriors recognize that quality of God’s personality and call on Him for intervention.
“AND THEY CONTINUED”
MAY/JUNE 2023
Most of all, Prayer Warriors pray “effectual fervent” prayers. They understand it’s not always what you say, but how you say it. Effectual fervent prayers are achieving ardent prayers, authoritative fiery prayers, and potent, passionate prayers. Those are the kinds of prayers that give us an advantage. The simplest words, spoken with authority, can prompt God to perform great miracles. Like Blind Bartimaues, in Mark 10:47-48, we can pray four easy words like, “have mercy on me”, and get a great blessing. Praying for mercy is always appropriate because it diminishes our self-confidence while acknowledging God’s ability. Intercessory prayer is asking God to have mercy. It is based on the assumption that the request can be honored. Intercessory prayer is asking God to have mercy, show favor and answer favorably. Mercy means, “to help one afflicted or seeking aid, to help the afflicted, to bring help to the wretched, to experience mercy.” Additional Scriptures: Matthew 9:27, Matthew 15:22, Matthew 17:15, Matthew 20:30-31, Luke 17:13 Defining Strategic Prayer Not only is knowing where and how to pray important. Knowing how to direct our prayers is vital as well. Prayer involves developing a strategy. Strategizing in prayer involves having a plan of action. It is to preempt the enemy. To pray is to pry (to inquire impertinently or unnecessarily into something)! Spiritually speaking, praying strategically is a series of prayers offered with a specific outcome in mind. These kinds of prayers are not general but specific. For example, a strategic prayer is not offered for good health, but a specific ailment, sickness, or area of the body. Strategic prayer would not settle for happiness, but the reso-lution of a problem. Strategic prayer is not for “family” but a precise family member or family issue. Examples of strategic prayer: • Purposeful appeals can reverse the judgments of God. Numbers 11:1-2 Specific petitions focus our mind and efforts on the solutions that will bring THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
the most glory to God. Judges 16:28 • Pointed pleas are answered. I Samuel 1:9-17 • Targeted prayers are important when it seems the enemy is succeeding at our expense. II Chronicles 20:5-15 • Focused entreaties can become strength when we are weak. Nehemiah 6:9 • Precise requests position us for miracles. James 5:13-15 • Armed supplications transform normal believers into spiritual giants. James 5:17-18 Projecting outcomes As a result of the accuracy of carefully spoken words, we can better predict the outcome of our prayers. One benefit of praying strategically is it allows us to project outcomes or results. When we pray properly, we bind the enemy and force him to change his plans. Strategic warfare is a plan of actions and or counter-actions designed to achieve a projected outcome. Spiritually, projecting outcomes are what we believe God will do as a result of our strategic prayers. This is different from prophecy, in that we are not declaring what God said will happen, but calculating what we expect God will do, based on our precise request. It’s what we expect God to do, not what He has said will take place. There is a difference. Projections are forecasts, faith, and/or expectations. We should be careful not to label our predictions as prophesies. However, we can feel free to be bold in our predictions, especially when they are supported by scriptures and a sound faith in God’s ability. Take a few minutes and practice strategic praying concerning you and/or your family and “Pray like a Warrior”. Operating Under What
SPIRIT? By Dr. Vivian Finnell
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. 7a. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Job 1:6-7a—6. Have you ever wondered what spirit congregants and the local church are operating under? Why both appear to often be void of the power, strength, spirituality, and influence the church in the earth was created to have? Or have you wondered why there is so much inaction in the body of Christ and the lack of the manifestation of Christ in our midst? Can it be that it is an opposing (conflicting, contradictory) spirit operating in the church and the body of Christ? Although, an opposing spirit is not an individual, every church building has contradictory spirits assigned and residing inside of the walls of the building, as well as, residing inside of some congregants who attend that local church. The true Church of the living God should have only one Spirit residing, living, and operating in the body, and that is the Holy Spirit. Many people have the Holy Spirit; however, all have not allowed the Holy Spirit to have them, leaving these individuals exposed to the influence of an opposing spirit.
thus, it must be crucified daily. When we do not make a practice of crucifying our flesh, we leave an open portal for this spirit to take over. This spirit especially hates prophets, leadership, prayers, and anyone trying to do the work of the Lord. This spirit will go after anyone in leadership to infect and contaminate that person to the point they are no longer effective at home, with their spouse or their children, at work, and at church. Those who have not checked this spirit have mastered how to exhibit a charismatic type of energy, while they seek to be the center of attention, rationalize their actions and behaviors. This type of spirit may be satan’s smartest, most cunning, and evil spirit he operates in because it is subtle; thus, he dispatches it into specific targets, cleverly using indirect methods to achieve his division of the body. This spirit hides amongst the body of Christ, appears, and acts normal for a while; however, suddenly, without warning it will rise up, and work havoc over whatever the person with this spirit is involved in.
How do we identify the work and movement of this occurrence in ourselves and others? How do we rid the body of Christ of this spirit, one which tries to control and contradict the work of the Spirit of Christ? This spirit is in operation and manifest itself in our midst, anywhere we find chaos, confusion, distractions, unwillingness, failure to cooperate, to follow instruction, show respect, move to the cadence of leadership and any negativity. The opposing spirit has no gender, it is vengeful and sows discord everywhere it manifests itself.
Our reference Scripture lets us know that these opposing manifestations come and sit among us when we gather. The Holy Spirit is to be the ultimate Spirit abiding in our midst. All other spirits are rooted in the arena of division, which hinders the progress, the move, and the plan of God. If left to itself, it attempts to push the Holy Spirit into a place of least providence and authority.
Unfortunately, it often finds access to some of the most talented and gifted individuals in the body, through their uncrucified flesh. We know flesh is never saved,
In conclusion, let us exam ourselves to ensure we are operating under the Spirit of God and not submitting to the spirit of opposition that comes to operate in the body.

BIBLE FAITH IS BORN BY
God’s Word! By Dr. Sharon T. Spencer, Th.D.
Romans 10:17 “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
B
ible faith is born by receiving the Word of God in your heart. If your faith is supported by the Word of God, you have Bible faith and are trusting the Lord with your life and willing to serve him. We must rely on God’s Word for spiritual strength to be a light to the world, while being rooted and grounded in God’s Word. It is not necessary to see what we hope for because faith is the evidence of things not seen. Bible faith is our assurance that God is working behind the scenes of our lives, and He alone knows our needs. Bible faith leads us to trust God’s will before our own will, so, we pray, Lord let your will be done in my life. Knowledge received by God’s Word empowers the church to live our lives according to the will of God despite trials, setbacks and tribulations. The Lord honors the faith birthed by His Word. What an honor that we can stand on the Word of God without wavering during distressing times. Many saints have survived challenging times, because they were anchored in the Lord. Thank God for the Bible faith that we have during these critical times. To God be the glory for all things entrusted to His people. Biblical faith is the believer’s spiritual weapon in this world. We do not digest words that conflict with God’s Word. Biblical faith shuns every form of darkness prevalent in this world. The Word of God warns us to walk circumspectly during trying times. We must be cautious as we take steps of faith towards spiritual exploits while wearing the whole armor of God for protection against attacks from the enemies of our faith.
THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
There are those who mistake fear for faith. Fear torments the mind and paralyzes faith in God. We can mistake fear for faith when we deny ourselves opportunities to be used by God in a greater way. The spirit of fear speaks to us to make us believe that we are not ready to go forward. Many will conclude that their decision to not go forward in Christ is based on faith, not understanding that it is actually fear. Fear is an enemy that wants to prevent the people of God from moving forward. God has not given us the spirit of fear, so we must not allow our human thoughts to have dominance over the mind and will of the Lord. We must walk on faith inspired by the Bible. Let us therefore hold fast to the faith that we have by God’s Word and trust the Lord concerning every facet of our lives. He will see us through difficult times. We must learn to trust the leading of the Spirt of God. He alone knows the path predestinated for us to walk. Let us not miss out on any opportunities to excel in Christ. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. CHALLENGE:
MARRIAGE
CAN WE TALK 7 Days of Intimate Conversation with Your Mate
By Pastor Adrian & Lady Wilesha Wright
C
ommunication is king! Communication is mandatory for every healthy relationship and it is the catalyst for moving your relationship progressively forward. Conversely, ineffective communication is the culprit to confusion in your union. We learn that relationships are built on communication from the Relational God that we serve. From Creation to Revelation, we see our loving Lord regularly articulating the intentions of His Heart to humanity. Yahweh communes with Adam in the Garden to ignite an eternal conversation with man that never ceases; and we see Jesus talking with John on the Patmos Island unveiling His extant passion for His treasured creation that will cause Him to return for His Bride. The relationship between God and mankind is founded and flourishes on various types of intimate exchanges. Therefore, a lasting relationship with our life partners must mimic the eternal commitment that God has made with us to both talk to us and listen to our needs when we talk with Him. How Do You Talk to Your Mate? “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone” Colossians 4:6 (NIV). When talking to your mate and communicating, it is important to watch your tone, temperament, and tactfulness. The conversation should always be rooted in love and seasoned in salt, but not salty. Out of everyone else on the planet, the conversations with your mate should always be full of grace, speaking and listening from the heart. Shaping your communication in this manner will cause both you and your mate to lean into the discussion, and draw closer together. THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
How Do You Listen to Your Mate? “Be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger” James 1:19 (NIV). Blunders happen in communication as couples are often quick to speak, quick to be angry, and slow to listen. This type of approach in communication is never successful, so if you have been taking this approach, it is time to do the complete opposite now. Diligently work to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Listen first, think, and then speak. Master the art of listening and watch your conversations become more meaningful and your relationship more beautiful. What I Don’t Say Is As Important As What I Say. Marriages suffer because of communication deficiencies. Not talking to a person speaks louder than words, and definitely communicates a disconnection in your union. Always make sure to keep conversation turned on in your marriage, and continuously monitor what your mate is saying even when they aren’t saying anything at all.
The Can We Talk Challenge: 7 Days of Intimate Conversation With Your Mate In lieu of the example of our conversational God and with these communication principles in mind, here is your talk challenge for the week. Use these questions below on the designated days to spark conversation with your mate.
• Monday: What do you like to do for fun? • Tuesday: What in life stimulates you or excites you? • Wednesday: What do you want to see us do more of together? • Thursday: What is the main thing you want to accomplish this year? How can I support you? • Friday: Where are you the most misunderstood by others? By me? • Saturday: What is the best way for me to communicate when I need time with you? And when I need time alone? • Sunday: How can we improve our communication overall? What is effective listening and talking from your perspective?
Our prayer is that these conversations will lead to a newfound desire to engage each other in more healthy meaningful dialogue that will cause your relationship to prosper until death alone separates you.

BUSINESS
The First Step to
PROVISION By Evangelist Neechy
As I sat in my home, with the heat and lights dimmed, a warm blanket wrapped around my shoulders, and cozy wool slippers draped over my feet; the cable TV turned to my favorite show, and my vehicle parked safely outside my front window, (and not to mention a refrigerator filled with my favorite food) I became overwhelmed with gratefulness. Grateful that I did not lose everything. Grateful that I was at home, with my loved ones. Grateful that I had the ability to communicate to the outside world. Grateful that my friends and family were safe. Grateful that I was blessed to have shelter, food, and clothing. Grateful that I was healthy. Grateful that, although I may not have as much as others, I had exactly what I needed. And, I would LOVE to tell you that everything has always been this financially amazing for me but that’s simply not true. I’ve had seasons where every bank account that I owned, was in the negative. I’ve had seasons where I had to consistently make payment arrangements to take care of my bills —I’ve had seasons where it seemed like I would never get ahead. In one such season, my car note had fallen several months behind and after daily calls from my lender, my account had finally entered “Repo” status. The amount of stress this experience caused did not just affect me personally, but affected all those around me as well. I had anxiety whenever the phone would ring from an unknown number, for fear that it was the lender. I would see a tow truck in the parking lot and instantly panic because I thought they were coming for my car! If I didn’t have a car, how would I get to and from work, to and from the store, to and from church? I went into what I thought was “Survival Mode.” I’d researched all of the ways to prevent a car from being towed, (No one is more creative than a person who is trying to hide their car from the repo man!) I’d call friends who were familiar with the business and ask them for suggestions; I would back the car in with the wheels turned; I’d ask someone to THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
park behind me; I’d park the car around the corner from my home and put the emergency brake on. You name it - I tried it! (It’s ok, you can laugh at me, because now that I look back at it, my hijinks were actually funny.) As I look back on it, the issue was that I failed to include God into every fiber of my finances. At that time, I paid my tithes (as I could) here and there. I was irresponsible with what God had given to me. For some reason, I’ve notice that we tend to only talk to God about money when we are in distress. But we have access to seek God in every area of our finances. When I began to talk to God about my desire to tithe more, my desire to be a blessing to others, my desire to be fiscally responsible, my world changed. If you’re in this space right now, all is not lost. Here are a few ways to restart your financial journey:
• Apply the scripture concerning your finances. (Proverbs 9:10) • Tithe. I’ve never seen God fail us. (Malachi 3:10) • Sow into others. He gives seed to the sower. (2 Corinthians 9:10) • Have a threshold. For example, you never let your account get below a certain amount. • Put money away into an account that is far from your house and that you don’t have a debit card for. This will prevent you from dipping into the account • Review reoccurring charges. Often times we’ve subscribed to services that we no longer use or don’t use often enough to have a monthly charge • Stock up on commonly used food and household items when they are on sale. No need to purchase a ton, start out by purchasing one extra every time you shop. Truly, I’ve learned to ask God to be a part of my decision process, and to turn to Him for wisdom. Every circumstance I have lived through has brought me to this place of peace and I thank God for the many ways He has provided for me.

HISTORY
BISHOP
ARTHUR M.
BRAZIER
NOT FORGOTTEN
Behold the Man: The Life Story of Bishop Arthur M. Brazier
B
ishop Arthur Monroe Brazier was a great man who lived his life with dignity, integrity, and an unwavering faith in our great God. In the eighty-nine years he traversed the earth, from Chicago to Paris to Johannesburg—wherever the ministry of Jesus Christ led him—he influenced the lives of countless numbers of people.
HUMBLE BEGINNINGS The youngest child of Geneva and Robert Brazier’s five children, he was born July 22, 1921, on the south side of Chicago. He attended Douglas Elementary School and Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. A child of the Great Depression, he took whatever job he could land in order to earn his own keep and help his family. A proponent of education and higher learning, he learned how to speak French fluently after the age of 50; it was a skill that enabled him to preach the Gospel in Paris churches. GROWING UP Bishop Brazier was very proud of his military service to his country (he could still recite his Army number decades after serving). A World War II veteran with two Battle Stars for the North Burma and Central Burma campaigns, he was inducted into the United States Army in 1942 and served for three years. In 1947, while reading from the twenty-first chapter of Revelation, the 26-year-old Arthur, with his mother at his side, gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. He often credited his mother, whose stalwart faith he inherited, for his spiritual and religious development, and his father for instilling in him a care for people and a sense of justice. On February 21, 1948, he was joined in holy matrimony to Esther Isabelle Holmes, daughter of Lola and Leon Holmes. Arthur immersed himself in the Word of God. Although he was baptized in Jesus’ name at the Morgan Park Assembly Church under the pastorate of Elder Herbert C. Moore, he joined Universal Church of Christ, where his mother was the pastor.
22 THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
ANSWERING THE CALL Not long after answering God’s call to ministry, Elder Brazier became the assistant pastor of Universal Church of Christ following his mother’s death in 1949. He became the pastor in 1952. He enrolled at Moody Bible Institute in 1955 to gain “a greater understanding of the Bible” to become a more effective teacher and preacher. In 1960, he was asked by Deacon Gerald Nuckolls and Elder Robert J. McGee to pastor the Apostolic Church of God, a small congregation with which his church shared space. He answered the call and, ultimately, the two churches merged under the name of the Apostolic Church of God with Elder Brazier at the helm. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

DOING GREAT WORKS FOR CHRIST
Bishop Brazier’s lasting legacy, perhaps, will be marked by his forty-eight years as pastor of the Apostolic Church of God. During his tenure, he guided the church through several expansion projects. The last project (a youth and family center) was completed in October 2007, only months before his retirement. Under his pastorate, the church grew from approximately 100 members to more than 20,000 members; yet, he remained a connected and accessible pastor throughout the forty-eight years. As committed as Bishop Brazier was to his life as a pastor, he recognized early in his life a need for being actively involved in the civic life of Chicago. Bishop Brazier began his community work with the Industrial Areas Foundation under the tutelage of Saul Alinsky and Nicholas Von Hoffman. In 1961, while working with Saul Alinsky, he founded The Woodlawn Organization (T.W.O.). He served as T.W.O.’s president for nine years. In 1966, he invited Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to Chicago, and together they protested against segregation in housing and education. Bishop Brazier joined the staff of the Center for Community Change, a Washington-based institution that provided technical assistance to community organizations in various parts of the country. After several years of service with The Center, he was elevated to the office of Vice President, providing direction and oversight of major projects. Bishop Brazier remained in that position until 1986 when he resigned to devote more time to his church, which was experiencing tremendous growth. Still, Bishop Brazier sought ways to serve the communities immediately surrounding the church. He was the founding Chairman of the Board of the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corporation (WPIC), a community-based group organized for the improvement of the Woodlawn community. And he was the founding Chairman of the Board of The Fund for Community Redevelopment and Revitalization, a group of community and institutional leaders that came together in 1993 to pool their resources to undertake efforts to rebuild the East Woodlawn and North KenwoodOakland communities.
RETIRED BUT STILL GOING
Bishop Brazier was appointed to the Board of the Public Building Commission of Chicago in 1986, and he held that position until September 2010. He was the Chairman of the Board of the Executive Committee of the New Communities Program, an affiliate of the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC), a national organization dedicated to helping community residents transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy and sustainable communities of choice and opportunity. In September 2008, he was named the first Senior Fellow of LISC/Chicago. A year-long fellowship, this opportunity allowed him to prepare and deliver presentations on community development, advise the executive staff of LISC, and participate in various LISC-related activities in Chicago and nationally. Bishop Brazier was instrumental in starting the Woodlawn Children’s Promise Community, an organization of which he was Chairman of the Board until his resignation on October 14, 2010. While his community work continued post-

In 1976, Elder Brazier became Bishop Brazier when he was elevated to the office of Diocesan Bishop in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. He was assigned to the Sixth Episcopal District (Illinois District Council), which included oversight of more than eighty churches when he resigned from the PAW in 2007. Under his guidance, the Illinois District Council leveraged its funds, helped local congregations, and sent money to foreign dioceses.
retirement, Bishop Brazier did not cease to serve the Church. As Pastor Emeritus of Apostolic Church of God, he continued to preach when called upon and often preached at other churches. Bishop Brazier’s greatest accomplishments are the ones he shares with his wife: his four children. All of their children are born-again believers working and serving in the church; and one of them, Dr. Byron T. Brazier, continues the legacy of his father as the pastor of the Apostolic Church of God.
FINISHING THE WORK Bishop Brazier allowed nothing—not even illness—to keep him from doing what God called him to do, whether it was in the church or in the community. He served the Lord by serving others faithfully until he reached the end of his earthly journey October 22, 2010.

MY, HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED: HEALTH
The IMPACT of COVID-19 on the AWARENESS of
MENTAL HEALTH
A
By: District Elder Marion Wright, Jr., MD
nxiety is something we all deal with to some degree. The majority of us may be unaware that we experience it because it poses no major threat to our daily functioning. We work through it in various ways in order to accomplish what we need to. Yet there are some for whom anxiety is a great hindrance; those who struggle to push through it, despite their best effort. In early spring of 2020, something happened that seemed almost to create a more level playing field: the COVID-19 pandemic!! At the very least, this global crisis seemed to suddenly increase the awareness of anxiety disorders among those who had previously dismissed these as imaginary concepts. Seemingly overnight, everyone in the world had developed some type of anxiety disorder. The world was faced with something it had never previously encountered, at least not on the same level. Government officials, healthcare professionals, and medical researchers all took on the task of trying to stop the spread of this deadly disease. Meanwhile, the general public had to figure out how to avoid getting sick while trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy. The whole world was in a state of panic.
now encouraged in places where they were previously discouraged or even forbidden. People were now being advised to seek professional help for their mental health issues as opposed to being told to strictly pray and ask God for healing. The pandemic seemed indiscriminate in its impact and affected virtually everyone’s life regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status. Some of those who used to teach about the evils of mental health conditions somehow found themselves dealing with symptoms they never imagined they would. The difference was that they too were facing a level of stress that was unprecedented.
It may be hard to think of any good as coming from the pandemic. However, when it comes to the church and its stance on mental health, hopefully the pandemic has at least brought attention to the importance of addressing these issues. Now, approximately three years later, we are still dealing with the impact of COVID-19. My hope is that this level of adversity has not been in vain; that the awareness of mental health that has been generated will In my experience as a clinician who treats people with continue to increase and lead to treatment solutions that anxiety disorders, I noticed something ironic during this have long been overdue. time. This is the time of year Plant Lovers and Gardeners get excited! Time to spruce up, clean out, repot, change up and do whatever you couldn’t during the winter months. The time to trim, prune, split and propagate. Spring and summer are the season of growth and change. Everything is sprouting, blossoming and spreading. Plants grow slower in the winter (some of them) but when spring/summer comes the growth picks up. It’s more rapid for both indoors and out. The sunshine and rain nourish our plants, giving them just what they want and need! If your flower gardens have become too bushy and overgrown, this is the time to clear and clean. Warmer weather is the time to get ready for things growing. Many people like to place their plants outdoors when the weather changes. The sun, rain and humidity are wonderful elements for them. Placing them in the right locations is very important because the wrong placement can be harmful. I had an awful experience by putting my tall, beautiful corn plant on my patio to let it soak up some sun. Well, it did just that and too much! A few hours later I looked outside and it was sunburned and crispy. I learned the hard way what not to do! Do Not put plants in full sun unless it’s a sun loving plant like a Bird of Paradise or a Palm. Place them where they can receive some filtered sun and shade til they are acclimated to the environment, under leafy branches. Many people put them on porches that are covered. They get a bit of sun but feel the elements like the warmth and humidity which they love. Plants can be placed in various areas, such as mingled in flower gardens, near trees or the landscaping, just be mindful of the sun. Speaking of location, when placing plants indoors near windows and glass doors, you should be aware of your exposures. The east sun provides morning light; southern exposure shines in the afternoon and west provides evening sun. It’s also good to have knowledge of the type of lighting your plant will thrive best in. There are high, medium and low varieties. Please don’t put a low-light plant in a string sunny window or a high-light plant in a low- lit area, you are asking for trouble! It will have you scratching your head wondering what’s going on! The more you know the better your success with your Green Babies. Also, learn the water intake for them, too, because one size (schedule) does not fit all!! So welcome spring and summer! It’s a beautiful time of year. Flowers and plants certainly love it as much as we do! Cynthia Owens owner of PlantBiz. Offering Plants for sale and plant services for home, business & churches. P
roverbs 13:22 says, “A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children…” a concept now known as multigenerational wealth. While the Word of God first introduced this principle through King Solomon, many modern Christians have not adhered to its wisdom. In principle, this sounds simple; however, if it is not handled correctly, the process could have bad outcomes, which may explain the lack of adherence. It can also be the case that most people do not understand how to pass along the resources the Lord has allowed them to possess. The solutions are varied and can be simple and inexpensive or complex with a substantial investment in time and money. However, at the end of the day, if handled well it can lead to a lasting legacy and an opportunity for their posterity to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Many are hesitant to leave their hard-earned assets to their children, let alone their grandchildren for fear they will squander it all. Therefore, before passing along wealth one should first pass along wisdom. Teaching the next generation the importance of sound biblically based financial management; letting them know the importance and necessity of tithing as well as instructing them on the appropriate manner of managing the rest is the first step. After that, it is essential to show them how it is done and what to do when an increase comes their way. When parents and grandparents take the time to teach and show their children and grandchildren how to manage God’s financial resources, then those children and grandchildren are more likely to succeed and then pass that wisdom on to future generations. What kind of wealth can be passed along? Wealth
FINANCE
MULTI GENERATIONAL WEALTH consists of assets that are either liquid, such as cash in checking and savings accounts, stocks and retirement accounts, or hard assets like real estate, cars, and jewelry. For liquid assets, the easiest way to pass them along would be through a beneficiary designation. Simply going to the bank, credit union, or broker and assigning a receiver at the time of death can easily allow the wealth they have built over time to go to the people they want. However, it is vital that beneficiary designations be reviewed regularly to keep them current and in line with their wishes. For hard assets or more complex wealth situations, it may be advisable to establish a trust. This is a legal contract that makes sure that the assets are managed according to their wishes both in life and after passing. Trusts can be set up through a local trust attorney or with the advent of technology through online services. As with any service, it is important to do due diligence in determining which route is better for their own particular situation and budget. Whether taking the simple path or the more complex, it is important to make the final decision on where the wealth goes and not leave it to chance, or worse leave that decision to the state. When the children of God embrace the concept of multi-generational wealth both in financial assets as well as wisdom, then they will not only be wise but as Solomon said “good”.

Pastors Encourage Racial Reconciliation, Churchgoers Want More Diversity in the Church Although pastors are doing more to encourage racial reconciliation and churchgoers say their church is doing enough to be ethnically diverse, nearly half of churchgoers say their church needs to become more ethnically diverse. In a survey of American churchgoers, 49% say their church needs to become more ethnically diverse, including 18% who strongly agree. At the same time, nearly 7 in 10 say their church is doing enough to be ethnically diverse (69%). Denominationally, Methodist (90%) and Restorationist movement (71%) churchgoers are most likely to agree their church needs to become more ethnically diverse. Baptists (62%) and Lutherans (58%) are among the least likely to agree their church is doing enough to be ethnically diverse. Source: https://research.lifeway.com (02/07/23) United House of Prayer v. Camden City, 2022 WL 1492867 (N.J. App. 2022) This case addresses the question of whether property held in the name of a church leader qualifies for exemption from real property tax under the law in the State of New Jersey. FACTS The United House of Prayer for All People of the Church on the Rock of the Apostolic Faith (“church”) was incorporated in the District of Columbia on June 20, 1927. In its Articles of Incorporation, the church’s stated purpose is to “establish, maintain and perpetuate the doctrine of Christianity and the Apostolic Faith throughout the world among all people, to erect and maintain houses of prayer and worship where all people may gather for prayer and to worship the Almighty God in Spirit and in Truth, irrespective of denomination or creed, and to maintain

the Apostolic Faith of the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” In 1964 the Internal Revenue Service recognized the church as exempt from federal income tax. The church’s Constitution and By-Laws were originally adopted on July 1, 1929 and were amended from time to time. Article VII, Section 5 of the Constitution and By-Laws provides that “the Bishop shall hold the property of all of the congregations of the organization as Trustee for the use and benefit of such congregations. The Bishop may rent, lease, dispose of or retain such property, for the use and benefit of the organization.” Further, Article XI, Section 1 provides that “property purchased by any minister or other persons belonging to this organization for the purpose of assembly of a congregation of this organization shall belong to this organization irrespective of in whose name title thereto is taken.” The real property commonly known as 915 Broadway, Camden City, N.J. was acquired in 1969. The deed by which title was obtained stated that the recipient of the property was “Bishop Walter McCullough, Trustee, United House of Prayer for All People of the Church on the Rock of the Apostolic Faith.” Thereafter, there were several transfers of the property by deed, culminating in a 1993 transfer and recording of the title from “Bishop S.C. Madison, Successor Trustee for the United House of Prayer for all People of the Church on the Rock of the Apostolic Faith” to “Bishop S.C. Madison, Trustee and his successor Trustees, as Trustee for the United House of Prayer for all People of the Church on the Rock of the Apostolic Faith.” This deed was recorded in order to eliminate the need to record new deeds each time a new Bishop was elected. On or about September 22, 2020, the church submitted an application for exempt status. The assessor denied the exemption on January 29, 2021. In doing so, the denial letter stated, in part: “based on the ownership listed in this 1992 deed, Block 307, Lot 74 does not meet the eligibility requirement for the Tax Exemption. The Bishop is not permitted to have an ownership interest in the property.”
“AND THEY CONTINUED”
MAY/JUNE 2023
The church appealed the denial to the Camden County Board of Taxation which upheld the assessor’s denial of exemption. DISCUSSION The applicable law provides in pertinent part that: “real property owned by a non-profit, charitable organization, which is used exclusively for charitable purposes -- “as defined by law” -- is specifically exempted from taxation under the New Jersey Constitution.” To establish a right to an exemption a party must “satisfy a three-part test. The petitioner must show that: (1) it is organized exclusively for a charitable purpose; (2) its property is actually used for such a charitable purpose; and (3) its use and operation of the property is not for profit.” The assessor does not dispute the church satisfies the second and third prongs of the foregoing test. The assessor contends, however, ownership of the subject property by “Bishop S.C. Madison, Trustee and his successor Trustees, as Trustee for the United House of Prayer for all People of the Church on the Rock of the Apostolic Faith” is not ownership by an “exempt organization organized exclusively for a charitable purpose.” The court concluded that it is uncontroverted that the governing instruments of the church require that “the Bishop shall hold the property of all of the congregations of the organization as Trustee for the use and benefit of such congregations. The Bishop may rent, lease, dispose of or retain such property, for the use and benefit of the organization.” Moreover, “property purchased by any minister or other
persons belonging to this organization for the purpose of assembly of a congregation of this organization shall belong to this organization irrespective of in whose name title thereto is taken.” The court further noted that the designation of the Bishop, as “trustee” is in apparent satisfaction of the requirements of the church’s Constitution and By-laws that the “Bishop shall hold the property . . . as Trustee for the use and benefit of” its congregations, which has been the historical practice. Hence, the titling of the subject property in the name of the Bishop, as Trustee, is a mere convention, providing nothing to the Bishop beyond that which is set forth in the church’s governing instrument. CONCLUSION The court found: 1) the church satisfied the requirements of applicable law; 2) the church is the owner of the subject property notwithstanding the manner in which title is stated on the record deed; 3) summary judgment in favor of the church is granted; and 4) judgment granting exemption to the subject property will be entered. BOTTOMLINE The governing documents (articles of incorporation, constitution and bylaws, etc.) are usually of utmost importance when a church is involved in an internal dispute or lawsuit. In most instances, church property is held in the name of the church so as to qualify the property for tax exemption. In the unique instances where this requirement may not be satisfied, it is imperative that the governing documents clearly require and state that the church is the owner of all church property.

D
ear Pentecostal Assemblies of the world, Inc., I really thank y’all for The Christian Outlook magazine issue, volume 98 [No. 5] September/ October 2022. If it is possible, can I have the latest issue y’all have as well as any other issues?
Also, I’m struggling with homosexual activity and in The Christian Outlook magazine there’s a man in the issue that is telling about how the Lord delivered him from things and he wrote a book called The Family Curse! Derek Waithe, and Tyronza Waithe. Like I said in my previous letter I told y’all how I was brought up in Pentecostal church and Bishop Earl Parchia from the Florida state council was our Bishop. I grew up in Jesus only Apostolic Faith Church, where the late Rachel Walker was pastor. However, I am trying to be free from a lot of situations that God only can deliver me and set me free. I need help so bad, and I thank God for His love. The book I would love to read, and I will please, I beg y’all to send me another issue of The Christian Outlook magazine. It really helps me out and I thank God for His blood. I was baptized in Jesus’ name Acts 2:38, but I never received the Holy Ghost at all. I know I need the Holy Ghost and I can’t wait until the Lord helps me. This demon is really on my back and I’m steady pleading the blood of Jesus Christ over my

life. Please I have over a year left before I get out of prison and I want to move out of Jacksonville, FL., to find me a good church home where I can get the love I need because I need love. The relationship I’m in is with M. J. please be mindful to keep him in prayer. He needs it and he needs deliverance just like me. Please, we’re on different wings and I can’t contact him at all. He was raised in a Pentecostal Church, but it wasn’t an Apostolic Church. His family started going to a Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall. Please keep him in prayer and please send me the oldest Christian Outlook magazine and the book please.
Please be mindful to keep me in prayer and God bless you all so much. M.R. Please write me back, Thanks

all my life and I never was freed from homosexuality! My mom has laid hands on me and anointed me with oil, my pastor has, the saints have, but I’m not free yet. I’m praying
and asking God every day to have mercy on my soul because I can’t go to hell, I just can’t. I have a year and a half left to do on my sentence and I don’t have nowhere to live yet alone go. Also, I’m a registered sex offender and now lots of saints turn their noses up at me, and it hurts. Please I’m asking that y’all keep me lifted in prayer because the prayers of the righteous availeth much. Praise the Lord Evangelist Mona Green, I pray for your strength to keep us going inside prison. I enjoyed the other Christian Outlook magazine; right now I can’t put it down! It’s the best Christmas present I have. Thanks, PAW

ear Evangelist Mona Thomas Green! [M.R.]
I’m writing you a letter because, there’s something going on with me and I’m stressed out. I feel the enemy tempting me to harm myself! I need your help, and before I forget Happy New Years! Also, M. received your letter and he’s reading it over and over. Like I explained to you, I was raised all of my life in Apostolic Pentecostal/Holiness/PAW and Bishop Billy G. Newton before Bishop Earl Parchia passed was our Diocesan Bishop. Pastor Rachel Walker of Jesus only Apostolic Faith Church was our pastor. Then my mother became a pastor of a small Apostolic church, but I’m feeling very depressed, and I know the enemy has his hands on me. But, I do have to share something with you! Lately I been in my cell calling Jesus, we use to call it tarrying for the Holy Ghost all by myself. I also repented of my sins, and I meant all of it. I’m reading the Word all day, every day and I’m singing a song by Tasha Cobbs called “Smile,” here’s my worship smile. Hopefully I get out of prison the end of 2023 or early 2024! I lost some gain time that’s why I don’t know my date as of yet. Well, my grandmother passed away and I just found out. I really wished I could have changed in my life, but God knows best. I really want to move out of Florida when I get out of prison. Could you whenever you write me point me in the right direction. Evangelist Mona Thomas Green!

ay God richly bless you, and each day I pray for the blessing to overshadow you. I have some good news for you. Friday evening chapel service I RECEIVED THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY GHOST AND I HAVE WITNESSES. This is the first time I ever spoke in tongues. The power of God was in that place. The lady who preached was Apostle Kenya Miller of Jacksonville, Fl., plus, she gave her testimony how she was freed from lesbianism in Brooklyn, NY. She’s Pentecostal also. When I got back on the wing all the other inmates saw that a change had taken place. I had chances to explain to them what happened, and I did tell them about Adopt-A-Soul prison ministry and you. They are all seeking a change, but they are indigent inmates. So, I’m going to give you their names, but I did tell them if they are not trying to go nowhere in God to please don’t waste your time, or mine either. But I want to say it’s because of the Spirit of God using you I was able to hear God’s small voice in chapel service Friday night and say to myself, M., are you ready. I am excited, but I know the devil is not finished tempting me. I praise God, for you Evangelist Mona Thomas Green because you were a part of the process. So now, I want to ask you a couple of questions. Where do I start in the Bible, and can you help me do a Bible Study? What I mean can you send me some questions, and then I do them and send them back to you to grade, if it’s not too much on you to do. I don’t want to be a burden to you, but presently, I am doing Bible Study that’s confusing me. The Word of God - I want to be busy in them. M. R.
